  1. You could drop duplicates of your magic boxes in other regions & sims, but that only works if it's your region causing delivery problems, such as a region with lag. But that won't help at all if it it's on the Marketplace side, and 90% of the time, that's the case. So I don't know if that would help any but it might not hurt to try and see if your ratio improves.

  2. Welcome to the world of being a Merchant on the SLM. :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:

My deliveries have been normal. I'd take it with a grain of salt, phases of failed deliveries happen frequently. It's a coin toss to the changing of the wind, really. You just have to try and work around the difficulty.

  3. Whoa whoa wait. I know this was 2009 but some Linden actually, seriously said in essence: Oh sure, we can offer a 100% delivery rate, but we'll let everyone have constant failed deliveries unless they pay, of course?

That's almost too dirty for me to accept as truth.

  4. I guess it depends on what you define as "cheap", it also depends what gender you're looking for. Some of the best hair brands in SL range their styles between 199-250.

    Truth (250$L), Magika (199$L-249$L), Ploom (250$L), fri. (250$L).

But these are mostly female hairs, though brands like Truth also have male hair. I don't know of any quality brands for cheaper but someone else might. If you want good quality, you'll probably have to expect something in the 250$L range as that seems to be the standard for hair, but this translates to only 1 US dollar. So it's not ridiculously expensive or anything.

I'm not worried about being watched, because I'm not trying to get away with anything. I've had LL automatically change ratings, but it's never removed a listing before. So a user can seriously flag an item and it gets removed without LL checking it out first?

They claim they have a Product Listing Review Team (or something) that looks over flagged items and gives the "go" or not on whether the item is delisted due to something incorrect, or if the flag complaint is ignored. But, eh, personally I think it's an automated system of sorts they may glance at every now and then. I don't know, it just seems,  on observation, that as soon as an item is flagged, that item is delisted, no middle-man (maybe you're just waiting for the 'reviewer' and it delists it as a precaution, whatever). The only thing you can do when you're a victim of someone gaming the system and getting your items taken down is to contact LL via support ticket and ask them who is smoking what and if you can borrow some, since it's obviously the good stuff. :matte-motes-big-grin-squint:

  6. Merchants always get copybotted or have items stolen or copied. It's a fact of life by being a merchant in SL and copybotting/stealing has been prevalent in SL for the past 8 years. All you can really do is file a DMCA.

You can't... close down Second Life. I wonder why so many people think they have that power, and go so far as to threaten LL as if they really have 10,000 lawyers capable of magic tricks? :matte-motes-stress:

If only the world worked that way. :smileyvery-happy:

I have tried it out (V2) - more than once - and, by comparison to the V1, it's crap.

Have they fixed the camera controls display yet? The last I heard, they hadn't done it, and I don't think they ever will - because they don't give a damn about users.

Um...? Okay? But I wasn't starting a discussion anywhere relating to the userfriendly or unuserfriendly interface of V2? I was saying how it won't slit your mothers' throat and threaten to eat your dog if you use it for 5 minutes to try the new search. lol. wth

In the part of your post that I quoted, you will see that you twice suggested trying it out. That's why I quoted that part of your post. If you re-read my response in light of that, you'll understand that what I wrote was nothing to do with your mothers and dogs comment.. The very first line of my response was, "
I have tried it out (V2) - more than once
    - and, by comparison to the V1, it's crap
." I would have thought it was clear enough.

No no no, you misunderstood what I was suggesting be tried. I suggested to try out the new search. I don't care if people use or like V2. I don't use it myself, but I'm not so stubborn I won't try the new search that can only be accessed at present on V2 (which means people would have to use it for 5 minutes). Refusing to even try the new search because it is on V2 was where my post was aimed. Not people trying V2, because I don't care if people like V2 or use it ever. This was for the sake of the new search. =)

  9. @Toysoldier Thor

In the new search, General, Mature, and Adult search results work for me. So that's wrong, it isn't intentionally showing just general. It may be a problem you're having. I'm sure you can report bugs here. It could be that you need to set your maturity settings in V2 or clear your cache.

  10. Some of these posts already, I can't even believe. lol.

At this point after begging for something, anything to be changed with search, we should shut up and sit down. I'm not an LL cheerleader, but ANY improvements on search, or any ATTEMPTS to improve search should at least be looked into rather than being blown off by saying call me when you support it for my viewer.

3rd party viewers can support the new search once it's rolled out if they choose to, it's not up to LL. You guys know better. Where's the big obnoxious eyerolling smiley for me to use? I'd understand if V2 holds a knife to your throat and threatens to decapitate your mother, but why can't you test it out? I don't enjoy using V2 but I'm still playing with the new search stuff. So far V2 has not decapitated my mother.

I know some of you are very hard to please but it wouldn't hurt you to at least give it a shot, especially if you've been one of the people screaming till you're blue in the face for something, anything towards improving search. After years of being cheesed off, at least go "Hey, thanks for trying!" even if it's not exactly what you want, and then offer suggestions for things it may be lacking. Easy! lol.

    --

To set example, thank you LL for trying to improve search even if it still doesn't suit some peoples' needs. I like to think we all understand that this is still in beta and you may be accepting intelligent and thoughtful suggestions for improvements.

Personally, I think the new search is looking fantastic with amazing potential to lessen the stress and burden amongst the members, and I'm very excited for when it comes out of beta. :)

Wow! I didn't spontaneously combust for realizing someone is trying to improve search. The world is still intact too! Newton's Linden Acknowledgement Theory, eat your heart out.

  11. Hi, Brooke! Thanks for the info. Few quick questions. There's several but they're probably not difficult ones. Just need clarity.

"Can I choose between Direct Delivery or Magic Box Delivery?

At launch time, you will be able to choose whether your items will use Direct Delivery or Magic Box Delivery."

Does this mean we'll have a permanent decision for our account to use either Direct Delivery or Magic Box Delivery? If so should we change our mind between the two, do we submit a ticket requesting a switch?

Does this mean that Magic Box Delivery isn't going to be discontinued and will be kept as the alternative?

Also, and will there be a way for merchants to test-drive Direct Delivery before we make a decision if we want to use it? What would be the best way to go about that, like an alt? Or will our accounts be flexible with us being able to switch between the two on our end?

Lastly, it's either one or the other right? As in, you can't have some items delivered via Magic Box and others Direct Delivery?

    Thanks!

  12. Most of the models are bots. Not many people seem to realize that it's a bot or automated program the merchant has set up. So they can't greet you, as it's not a person.

If it is a person who is getting paid to be a model, then no. I prefer shopping and browsing in solitude and tend to avoid conversation or anything like that. When I shop in world, I prefer to get in and get out quickly. But that's just me.

  13. Just received this e-mail:

     Hello,

Thank you for participating in the Second Life Advertising Beta program. Based on our evaluation of the SL Advertising Beta during the last six months, we have decided to discontinue the program on May 31, 2011. Access to advertise.secondlife.com for performance information and data downloads will remain open until June 7, 2011. For those that have active campaigns, we will ensure that all of the impressions that you’ve already paid for are delivered prior to closing the program.

Thanks to all of the Merchants who have helped us test this display advertising beta and for all of your helpful feedback. Your participation and insights will help us drive our ongoing efforts to help you promote your products and services to Second Life shoppers. We look forward to partnering with you on future promotional endeavors.

If you have any questions regarding this announcement, please email sladsbeta@lindenlab.com and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

    Signed,

    The Second Life Advertising Team

I know a lot of merchants including myself have used or are currently using this program. Thoughts?

I'm disappointed to see it go. I thought it was an excellent service and I feel I got substantially better results from it than any of those ""product enhancements"". Although I know many have also complained about the ads.

  14. The best way to make money in SL is to market to the groups that spend the most, and do the most shopping. That just tends to be women. If my shop was geared more towards men instead of women, I don't think I'd make a fraction of the money I do make. Not generalizing, but girls like to shop and are very proficient at it! And I think a majority of SL's market-based economy is driven by women, probably many in their 20's and 30's.

    :matte-motes-smug:

  15. Happening to me too!

My region has been having problems the past week; customers have been frozen in place, huge walking lag, chat lag, failed to-location teleports resulting in log outs, items rezzed vanishing into the ether never to be seen again, and random region log outs.

And this is a region with NO lag. It's bloody ridiculous. And now the other day, I logged in and I stayed a floaty blorb. Cleared cache, restarted SL, floaty blorb. Went to other regions, FLOATY BLORB. Went home, did Ruth Character Test and finally was able to start from scratch with my avatar.

Then after a while I stopped being able to attach anything, gave up and logged out.

I've been getting errors in marketplace deliveries which is very unusual for me as I have a very high success rate for deliveries. And I've had failed payments. I paid my rent at my parcel, the region crashed, payment vanished into the ether and had to contact my landlord. Customers have been buying, but I haven't been getting paid.

This past week has been a [censored] nightmare.

  16. I didn't say people can't express themselves. I just am one of those people who need to be wondered about, who google others. Oh my. :) I don't know, I just have this ~dangerous~ need to know both sides before I give an opinion. Insane, I know! I know a lot of people find flaming fun but I know merchants and customers alike see these forums, so before I agree someone was in the wrong, I try to find out a bit more, because I know when someone says THIS MERCHANT IS A F!@#*($ LIAR AND STOLE FROM ME ROAR, it's better to try and learn a bit more before you go OH YEAH MERCHANTS ARE THIEVES THEY SHOULD ALL BE SHANKED.

My response would have been articulated differently that yes, customers need better recourse when ripped off; I have been ripped off and know it sucks that LL doesn't do squat about it, but it wasn't simply about that. The merchant was called a liar, accused of ripping people off, and using fake accounts to write reviews.

When accusations like that are thrown around, it's pretty silly not to look to both sides if you're going to give a comment. I agree on the general topic, "Customers need better recourse against scammers". So I agree with you, but when such inflammatory accusations are tossed about, that's a whole other ball game. That's where my problem is. If it does look like the person genuinely is a scammer, send them to the gallows, but in this case, I have a hard time believing they are.

    =)

  17. I don't know the story here so I can't judge, but it does bug me that when people come into these forums to flame merchants, very few people look for the merchants' side of it. In this scenario, if I found the correct product in question (and it seems pretty obvious it is), then this person flaming off that the merchant is a "liar" is unfounded and unfair given the 16 other positive reviews and follow up reviews from other satisfied customers trying to aide this fellow.

As a merchant and a customer, I can unbiasedly say there are idiots in both realms. You can't always assume people that come in here raging are always the golden victimized children.

Although I think this is in-part to the gag-order put on people here when calling others out (which I like because it offers protection for the other party in case they are wrongly accused), I do encourage people to do simple google searches before automatically taking sides on issues and joining in bashing and blame games.

Googling this fellow's name turned up several marketplace reviews and common sense allowed me to educatedly guesstimate which product he was talking about from the review he left. I find it good ethics to look to the product/merchant in question before saying OH SOME MERCHANTS ARE JUST RUBBISH *RAGE*.

  18. If I'm looking at the right product review, there are 16 positive reviews and 2 reviews after the one you posted at the beginning of April from other customers explaining to you how to get it to work in your viewer. Am I right?

I don't know, but with so many other people leaving positive reviews that it works, I'd be inclined to believe it's a problem on your end and not with the product or merchant, but that's just me.

I'd send the creator another notecard. Unless your first card was flat out aggressive and rude, they probably didn't receive it the first time. Try sending an IM as well notifying them that you sent a notecard.

  19. As someone who drops thousands and makes thousands in this game, I think customers are always #1, but  in SL, you have the opportunity and curse of working with a lot of different and unique people, and that's not always a good thing. I have had my run ins with some pretty special customers, and the bad ones are a very, very, barely noticeable percent for me. However, the bad ones are always, always the most characteristic because I think when I do get an odd customer, they are very extreme. Like, wow.

My mother ran an eBay business on the side of her main job and the horror stories with customers she has are only funny in hindsight. She accidentally sent the wrong fragrance of product once and the lady that made the purchase went even so far as to stalk her personal information online and call her main job BOSS to call my mother a liar and this this and that. Stalked our family for FOUR MONTHS over this.

Customers can be craaaaaaazy when it comes to online dealings, man. And I think it would be incredible if the Marketplace dev team considered allowing merchants to leave buyer reviews, but I doubt it. I think it'd be written off as "unneccessary" work, but I do think merchants DO need more influence with customers. Customers do have a LOT of power with our businesses and products with the rating system, and we're screwed over with the TOS whenever we get unjust reviews or malicious flagging or malicious reviews, or deal with malicious people with weird personal vendettas that come out of nowhere.

I really think we need better merchant protection, like the ability to flag reviews on our products, such as in the case of 1 star no delivery reviews. There can be crappy merchants but there can be crappy customers too. There's never a group of any kind without a village idiot with their underwear on their head.

I think I'm very blessed with my own customers, and have made lots of friends and I really love providing customer service, but every now and then, someone will come by that is from another effing solar system or something...

  20. I don't know why the merchant would say to use the redelivery terminal in-world.

Last I checked, items purchased on the MARKETPLACE were on the marketplace server, not a store delivery server in world for in-world shops. If you purchased the item inworld and the items were on a delivery server, you could use the redelivery terminal and get them redelivered. But the Marketplace is separate. You can't use an in-world redelivery terminal to redelivery marketplace delivered products.

So it seems pretty idiotic the merchant would tell you to do that unless they didn't realize you purchased the item off the Marketplace and the delivery failed, not in-world.

I would keep pushing until you get your money back. LL won't do squat, they don't ~get involved~ in what they call "resident disputes", even if people use their platform to cheat and steal. So tell the person to give you your money back or the products you purchased, and that it was a Marketplace order that failed and in-world terminals won't work. The merchant should KNOW that but I digress.
