  1. I was tempted my some land on the north coast of Sido which faces such a void, but wasn't totally comfortable the view would be 'forever'... though in reality it probably will be. If it had been an easterly or westerly view, I might have yielded to the temptation. I have to admit that my motive for this comment was also partly that I could quote @Abnor Mole - OMG I am such a fan of the LDPW Moles *giggle* I so agree with you, David. But as Sylvia has said above, in some cases it may be ignorance. In the end, I always have a huge swig of 'buyer beware' juice before inspecting land to buy.
  2. You're completely right about that. I would never have thought of joining two separated parcels unless I had just seen it done with my own eyes... I was kind of incredulous, but it was late and my PC was messing up, so I didn't pursue it, and only thought further about it this morning. Oh well, you can be in SL many years and still have stuff to learn!
  3. Thank you for your confirmation, @Qie Niangao ... you obviously have a long experience of this issue! As to the Wiki, I have a friend who (I think) does have Wiki-editing rights, so I will draw this to her attention.
  4. Oh dear I beg to differ. I googled and came to this thread looking for the answer I eventually came to by experimentation in-world; but the conclusion by the end of the 2013 discussion was incorrect. Since this was the first thread that google yielded on this subject, it seemed relevant to correct it with the accurate and complete answer. Although the thread had initially been to discuss the simple subject of joining two pieces of land, presumably adjacent ones, it quickly devolved into a discussion of joining non-adjacent pieces. This was the subject I was myself seeking, and the thread by that time suggested that this could not be achieved. When actual experience showed me otherwise, I felt it would be useful to present the correction in the same location to which google had led me, so that anyone in future seeking the same information would have it presented clearly and accurately.
  5. Thank you for your opinion, Alwin Actually, however, there is no problem to reopen an old thread, if it is still relevant and adds to the sum total knowledge for SL citizens. I did not find this knowledge on another thread, despite searching, and it is new and useful information for many perhaps. Of course, I am happy to be wrong
  6. No, you were not mistaken, it seems. Those who said you were wrong, were the wrong ones themselves. You can join parcels which are on the same region no matter how far apart they are! I have this moment just joined three separate parcels into one, and they were all dozens of metres apart from each other with several other landowners in between. You just select some of one parcel, drag across to the other, and then choose Join as usual. The system ignores the fact that you have other people's land selected as well, and just joins your own. The only pre-requisite would be that, as usual, all land to be joined must be owned by the same individual or group. It was a long time coming, but we now have the definitive answer. But it does seem that the Wiki is wrong at Point 2 under 'Joining Land' here http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Joining_and_subdividing_land when it states: "Check that both parcels of land are adjacent (they share a border at some point)" - I have just proven that this is not the case.
  7. Thanks for that Jennifer I knew about that one, and have done it myself. Thing is, in this case, I know for sure that's not how it was done because it all happened in 5 minutes after I sold the second parcel. I probably just need to ask her how she did it. If I find out, and it's not some illegal hack, I'll post it here :)
  8. So... very interesting! I recently sold some land, and also to the same buyer sold some prim land that had been abandoned on the same region. I sold them as two separate parcels, but they have now been joined into one, despite someone else's land being in between them. My question is, how did they achieve this? 😅🙃
  9. Oh, is that so? I guess the scammers are everywhere So far I am lucky enough to not have seen one of those, but I know you do land business all over, you will see all the dirty tricks there are. I'm always happy to see some of the land sellers committed to doing the right thing across the Mainland, so keep up the good work
  10. I guess that must be it I guess the range is 80 metres... oh, but no, the range is only 60 metres... hmmmm... well, thank you! EDIT: I guess it goes to 40 metres above water level, but only 20 below.
  11. I am selling a parcel of land in the Color Sims which is one of those generally described as having +/- 40m terraforming. Having experimented with it, I have been able to raise one 16 sq m portion to 60m height (which is 40 m above water level), and the next parcel to 0m, or 20 m below water level, which is 'absolute zero' in terraforming terms as far as I know. So I am wondering where this term +/- 40m came from? It seems you can have a range of 60 metres on adjacent portions of the land, but never go below 0m. Where does the figure of 40m fit in?
  12. It's important to carefully check that everything the seller tells you about their land is true. This is especially so when the seller claims their land is on 'protected water'. The number of times I have looked at a parcel offered under this description only to find that the water is definitely not protected water at all is... not small Go off into all the land and water surrounding the parcel you are interested in, and check the ownership. Even if neighbouring water is entitled 'protected water', have a look and see who owns it. If it is not a Linden entity such as Governor Linden, or Linden Department of Public Works, it is not likely to be forever-guaranteed REAL protected water. Sometimes a landowner will set up an estate-like area on Mainland and, with the best intentions, they will define channels leading to 'real' protected water using that same name, and landowners buying land on their channels will be able to use them for navigation; but that arrangement is only good for as long as the landowner maintains the arrangement, which he is free to change at any time. If the land you want to buy is priced accordingly, you may still be happy to buy and take the risk, and won't lose too much if the access channel closes in the future. But beware of paying a premium price for land on 'private' so-called protected water. Even worse are those who label their land as 'protected water' when all of the water around is completely privately owned, with no intention to provide access for other landowners at all. In some cases you may be able to sail across such water, but there is never a guarantee. This may seem obvious to experienced land buyers, but when I started buying land I was initially shocked by some of the misleading descriptions I found. It is definitely a small minority of sellers who do such things, but it only takes one transaction with such a seller to dash your hopes of that dreamy water parcel you always wanted.
  13. I have myself occasionally sold a parcel and out of curiosity have a look months later to see what became of it, only to find that it still bears my exact title and description despite being in use. I have also seen land which was obviously once abandoned land, still bearing the title placed on it by the Linden who set it for sale to the buyer. I think there are a few land buyers who may not understand a few of the issues of land ownership and management. They are probably very happy owning their land and likely do a much better job of building stuff to put on it than I would
  14. I think what might initially put people off this is the rather unattractive land texture which the Lindens have for some reason decided to apply to this part of Sansara. The land can't be made high enough to get to the pleasant green grass texture. However, this land has numerous lovely builds nearby, showing what is possible, and for protected water on three sides, the price is more than fair. It's a Moderate region too, unlike some of the crazy prices people want to charge for land in General. Good luck with the sale! My image shows the neighbour across the water. A lovely build, showing what is possible in this region. (Windlight: Coastal Afternoon)
  15. L$10,500 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Chartreuse/43/25/49 This land has been part of SL since 2003, and there are two parcels on the region which are still in the original ownership. Your neighbours on one side and across the stream have been here since 2004. Go have a look at the amazing Creature Co aqueduct across the stream - it has been there since 2004 and the water particle effects are as good as anything you will find even today. Chartreuse is one of the few Moderate regions in the Color Sims area, most are General regions. It also has the +/- 40 metre terraforming range applicable to only some of the oldest parts of Sansara, and nowhere else on the Mainland. This means that you can have parts of your land up to a 60 metre height, right next to another part set to the minimum 0 metre height (20 metres below the water surface). We have used the little 'extra' part of the parcel on the west to show you the extremes of terraforming, both height and depth... you can have a range of 60 metres between your highest and lowest point. You may keep as much of the land decor as you like for as long as you like, or just return what you don't want at any time. If there are parts created by Sakurako Suki (the former owner) which you like, message her and she will send you copy / mod / no trans versions for yourself to use. (The land is set up as a Japanese shrine entering from the water, with a Japanese style home behind - the home is moddable and Sakurako is happy to come and make a few changes you'd like, if you do want to keep it). Sakurako had hoped to make this her home for some time ahead, but suddenly got the opportunity of an unexpected parcel further east and has decided she can't use both... so she is letting someone else have the chance to enjoy this unique region. If you do buy this, please treasure it and preserve it for the future of SL... please don't be tempted to break it up or abandon parts of it, this parcel as it is goes back to at least 2004 in its present form and is part of the ancient history of SL.
  16. ** PROTECTED WATER ON A RIVER IN OLD SANSARA ** L$6000 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Miru/238/143/25 560 sq m is still not common, even though it is a very convenient size for Premium members who want a useful piece of land in two separate locations, so grab this while you can. Tidy 32 x 16 parcel which is basically a 512, and then an extra 16 sq m under water at the front, and 32 sq m to one side at rear to give you the extra prims of a 560 sq m land. This land will accommodate any structure designed for a 512 parcel, but gives you 192 prims instead of the usual 175. THE LAND A rare 560 sq m parcel which is half the entitlement for a single SL avatar to own through a group with a friend or alt, gaining your 10% bonus land for group owned land, allowing you to also own a similar sized parcel elsewhere, without paying any extra land tier. We have set the parcel Environment to 'Sunset' so that you get the benefit of subdued lighting across the river and the west-facing view. If you want to change this, you can of course change back to the SL day cycle or to any other Environment setting you like. If you need help with this, we will provide that support, as with any other land parcel settings if you are unfamiliar with parcel management. This also includes Experiences such as AVSitter , which will make the use of your furniture much more seamless and enjoyable. EXTRA PRIM LAND AVAILABLE In this region we have obtained a couple of random patches of land which would normally be unuseable, except that a landowner can use the prims from this extra land to expand the prim count on their main parcel. We will only sell this prim land to people who already own land in Miru, so that it cannot be used for random advertising sites. We have up to 448 sq m of prim land available, yielding an extra 153 prims of land impact. Of this, there is 48 sq m (16 prims) available right next to this parcel, so it can be joined and create a 608 sq m parcel if you want. The other 400 m is nearby by cannot be directly joined. The 48 sq m we will sell to the buyer of this land, if desired, for L$100. The other 400 sq m we will sell to any Miru landowner for L$25 per 16 sq m 'square' of land (the smallest size that can be subdivided)... as many as you like up to 400 sq m. THE REGION The land is 560 sq m in a quiet region with neighbouring residences and private lands. Water craft may be used to access the L-Shaped Lake and other seas and rivers to the south, and a few regions north you can access the ANWR channel to Heterocera continent. A COUPLE OF LAND SHOPPING TIPS On your keyboard, use Ctrl + Shft + Alt + 9 to hide all objects on the land to see the land clearly; and use World > Show more > Property lines to see the land boundaries. Dive under the water to see the parts of the land down there and to verify that you have direct access to the Protected Water river channel. If there is something around you, on other land, that disturbs you, you can permanently derender it in a few minutes. For each item you don't wish to see, simply: > right click on it > Select More at bottom, and then More again > Select 'Derender' at top right, and then choose 'Blacklist' to permanently eliminate that item from your viewer. Some items you may need to fly closer to do this, but a few minutes spent zipping around the region will yield you your perfect view. MOVING IN: You may retain anything on the parcel at the time of purchase for as long as you wish, and we would be happy to provide some relocation of items in the days after your purchase. SUPPORT: Please IM Yukari Kimagawa and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
  17. Thanks for those additional ideas, Lindal. The hover height doesn't seem to affect the avatar 'Height' statistic, but I didn't know that a shoe base will affect it! We learn something every day. Thank you!
  18. Oh you definitely can upload. If you have an XML file exported by one avatar, another avatar can Import it into a new shape they are wearing. (If you need to share an XML file to another user, may I suggest the site https://www.file.io/ That site allows a one time download of your file by another person to whom you give the resulting link, and is pretty much to all intents and purposes anonymous).
  19. I had done this before quite some time ago but could not for the life of me remember how! So Whirly's clear and simple guide above was perfect and worked perfectly... well, almost, it seemed for a while. The discrepancy seemed to be in the overall avatar 'Height' data point. While all the individual sliders were identical, this figure was different between the two avatars was the 'Height'. (The second avatar was my drone alt, a term which provoked some amusement on the FS support group today) ... but in other words, same RL 'driver', same viewer etc Eventually I worked out the answer and it's a bit weird. It turns out that the 'Height' notation at the very top of the shape adjustment window takes into account if you are wearing high heeled shoes even if those are not at all actually part of the avatar/shape. Very very strange and would be curious how that works, but I at least have the answer to what I thought was a serious problem. Any clues about why that 'Height' figure includes shoes which are not actually 'part' of the avatar but are to all intents and purposes attachments?
