D'accord. The women in the 1950's were beautiful. My mom bought some dresses that resembles 1950's clothes, and a friend gave me dresses yesterday that resembles it.

    Hey all,

I am writing a research paper on why people play Second Life and what they feel they obtain from playing Second Life. I  began to play Second Life this week to help me research but I wanted the input of people who play Second Life on a daily basis.

I am researching the different reasons people play online virtual worlds, specifically Second Life and I would greatly appreciate your opinion!

The questions I am asking are:

    1. How long have you been playing second life?

I think I joined in the summer of 2017.

    2. How often do you play second life?

I only visit here occasionally because I get curious. I am not a Second Life regular, so I am more of a visitor. I do not remember when I joined 2nd life because I go on here about a few times a year.

    3. Why did you begin playing second life?

I got curious about Second Life since I've been hearing about its advertisements sometimes 10 years ago. When I first heard about it, I did go on the site, but I never made an account because I was too little and uninterested in it. Last year, I joined because my curiosity grew too strong that I wanted to explore the virtual world and see for myself.

    4. What do you gain from second life that you can’t get from reality?

In Second Life, I only look around and travelled in historical places in Second Life that I couldn't afford to go in real life due to the prices of plane tickets.

Only reply to this message if you feel comfortable with me using your answers and username in my paper; as you respond to this blog, please state that you give me permission to use or quote you in my research paper, thanks!. I greatly appreciate everyone's input and answers! Thanks!

I give you permission to use or quote me in your research paper.

They conquered the whole world, didn't they?

There was also a country named Dacia In Europe:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dacia

The Romans didn't actually exterminate the entire Dacian population of course, they just bragged about it. As usual, "ordinary people" didn't really count either way. They just kept on struggling under new oppressors without noticing much difference. And of course, there were quite a few more prominent citizens who realized in time which side their bread was buttered on.

The bottom line is that it was a brutal, ruthless world. For centuries, the Roman top dogs were the most brutal and ruthless ones so they were able to dominate everybody else. History is written by the victors and the romantic (that word says a lot itself actually) image we tend to have of them is very much based on their propaganda. Once you start to examine the inconsistencies in the stories, you get a very different picture fast.

Edit: I think I'll add another example of the Great Roman Civilization here:

At one boint during the battle of Alesia, the deciding battle of Julius Caesar's conquest of Gaul, had a brilliant idea to demoralize his opponents. He gathered all the Gallic women and children he had managed to capture, drove them into no man's land and let the Gallic warriors watch as their mothers, wives and children slowly starved to death. Caesar was quite proud of that idea, he brags about it in his memoirs.

Indeed, that happens with every dominant country. They brag about their kills and make it a good thing when it's actually bad.

Be prepared is probably the best advice. Read the land description before you tp in and see if you can come up wth something suitable.

I have a couple of generic ethnic/medieval, fantasy and urban otufits ready in my outfits list. They work for most rp sims and it only takes a second to switch to one of them.

As for cost and where to find it, unless you're so attached to your mesh body you can't Second Live without it even for a few minutes, collect all the old freebies you can find. There is so much of that and in so much variety of styles, it won't take logn before you are spoilt for choices.

That's good. Then I'll leave the clothes unmodified. I'm not sure if that's ok for the clothes to not fit on the body.

If it is an RP sim and you are not dressed appropriately for the theme, you usually will get banned if you refuse to dress appropriately. Most RP sims will have freebies you can wear at the landing point, so no excuses.

Oh, but is there a way to make your own avatar invisible? I'll have to learn a quicker way to change clothes.

I wonder of we can still save this thread by rerailing it into the "make friends" topic:

So, what Rome sims do you think are best to meet some history buffs?

I found out that some have some people, but they banned me for no reason. I'm not going back to Second Life anymore because I visited here to explore. This keeps happening whenever I get curious and only want to look around.

  7. My personality online is the same as my personality in real life. I've experimented with going with different personalities that are not true to mine before, but it didn't go well. I was unsatisfied and barely found any joy with the things I was doing. At the end, I ended up abandoning my fake personality traits and reverted back to my true personality traits.

I've been to some of the Second Life historical places, but they're usually empty with barely any people at all.

All I know is competing virtual world users are quite hostile towards Second Life, despite Second Life having more creative freedom in my opinion(and also movement freedom in the case of IMVU).

Why would they be hostile to Second Life? I think Second Life is much more fun even though I've been in other virtual worlds longer.

You asked about my opinions, so here you go:

IMVU - tried it a couple of times, not interested

Second Life - I've been a regular user since 2007

Woozworld - never heard of it

Habbo - heard of it, but never used it

Twinity - I was an early user, but it's a dead world with few users

SmallWorlds - never heard of it

OurWorld - never heard of it

Fantage - never heard of it

Stardoll - never heard of it

Neopets - never heard of it

World of Warcraft - I played for about a year, never got up past level 20

Poptropica - never heard of it

Club Penguin heard of it, never used it

Moshi Monsters - never heard of it

WeeWorld - never heard of it

Webkinz - never heard of it

Meez - never heard of it

Minecraft -heard of it, never used it

Roblox - tried it once, not interested

Most of these are CLEARLY aimed more towards children and teenagers rather than adults. If you want an up-to-date list of social VR, virtual worlds, and metaverse platforms, you can use my list as a starting point:

    https://ryanschultz.com/list-of-social-vr-virtual-worlds/

I know. That was years ago, and I was a young teenager. Sorry about those virtual worlds. I thought that many people would know about those worlds.

Why? And why didn’t you tell us which ones you have an account on?

I'll tell you right now. I did make accounts in IMVU,  Minecraft, Roblox, Woozworld, and Habbo. I borrowed someone's unwanted account in Poptropica. I made accounts in Roblox and Habbo because I was curious and wanted to explore it since a friend played it. I quit them later on because there's nothing to do. I borrowed someone's unwanted account in Poptropica because I didn't have an account. That person was quitting Poptropica. I like it that they included history in Poptropica, and every character look like frogs dressed in human clothes.

I made an account in Woozworld because I was probably bored. After Pixie Hollow closed down, I stayed in that virtual world and tried to find people my age. I was just graduating 8th grade at that time. I created an empire and ruled over a roleplay genre. I had a million people in my friends list, and I was very well-known by the people, as 10 and more people would follow me around each minute, trying to talk to me about countries, militaries, enemies, wars, history, royal feasts, etc. Luckily, after meeting many people, I at least befriended someone decent and became close friends with him. My relationships with the other people usually ended in wars or we left each other. I was very nice to my supporters even though some of them sided with my enemies. Then my accounts got hacked on my birthday, and I slowly left Woozworld with my close friend, and we moved to Steam and Discord. The pros of Woozworld that it did improve my social skills, my tactics, thinking, and got to practice my leadership skills. The con is that it was about 4 years wasted on raging wars against my enemies while they kept stealing my stuff and adding more obstacles that made it harder for me to reach my wants. For some unknown natural reasons, I put my wants first over the other people around me.

I made an account in Minecraft because it looked interesting. Then my brother joined in, and he sometimes plays Minecraft. Guess who ended up playing Minecraft more? My brother. But for me, I played it a little until I left it because I got too busy with managing my empire.

I made an account in IMVU because I was probably in a mood to create an avatar and find a new world to create an empire and restore my former glory. It's the same reason for Second Life. I slowly left IMVU because I started getting more homework in school.

Now you know about my accounts. I'll update this topic's description and add in my own.

If you really want to split hairs, Williams is romantic music, not classic. :P

Or maybe not. The term classical or "classic" music changes all the time. A century ago nobody would call an opera "classic" - that was pop music. In the two strictest definitions classical music is either European church music or music written in an elegant "galant" style during the 18th century or so (give or take a decade or five). In it's widest definition, well...

This reminds me of when ICTM (International Council for Traditional Music) tried to clarify exactly what traditional music is. The definition they ended up publishing was brillianty clear and concise and left no doubt whatsoever what was traditonal music and what wasn't. Unfortunately they had to change it because they couldn't find any music that fit.

(I don't really want to tell too much about my Real Life here but I've mentioned most of it before and since this is a thread about music, I probably should say a bit about my background:

I grew up with gammeldans music. (for the Irish: gammeldans is the Scandinavian equivalent to ceilidh. For everybody else: it's a mixture of 19th C. continental salon music and traditional Scandinavian music, in many ares - including where I come from - with a healthy doze of swing rhythm and phrasing (and no, swing is not jazz).) I'm classically trained, starting with piano lessons at the age of five, going on to a conservatory degree specializing in 16th century music. In a rare moment of intelligence I decided to get formal teaching credentials too so most of my adult life I've been able to make a decent living as a musician/music teacher without having to handle all the stress of touring and such. These days I mostly do folk music and blues and my experience with Tudor music has helped me a lot there since those styles are closely related.)

I love the elegant "galant" style.

Declare war?! Someday it shall commence!

Actually, my inspiration as a child was Beethoven. I would attempt to play along, teaching myself for the most part.
I still play, from time to time. Especially when I am upset, or if I miss my brother (my oldest, who passed away).
I need to replace my bows. I have 4. All of which "wear and tear" would be a harsh understatement.

This is the best I could find online of one of my favorites, (for my mp3 player.) My personal version is rawer.

My favorite period of music would be the 1800s.

    Raw emotion.

Idk how to explain it. Most don't understand my obsession. lol.

Sorry for the loss of your brother. I hope you feel better now.

I'm thinking you like 1800's music because of the way the melodies and instruments sound. You love that they're often used for romantic music. Rawer? I think it means you enjoy live concerts more than music from radios.
