A region designated General is not allowed to advertise or make available content or activity that is sexually explicit, violent, or depicts nudity.  Sexually-oriented objects such as "sex beds" or poseballs may not be located or sold in General regions.

you can not have any sexual objects anywhere on a general sim, even inside your own home

Yes, you can put any and all this stuff as long as it is 1) privately-owned and 2) not out in the open where it is obvious what it is.

My place is on G-rated land. I have furniture that can make a sailor blush. Please: do AR me and watch me not even notice it, because LL with roll their eyes and kill the ticket. What you are quoting is in reference to anything out in the open that is easily accessible by or visible to by anyone, for sale, or for public use.

But it really is okay for you to believe that statement in the TOS is the iron-hand rule that applies to any and all things in G-rated sims. Nothing wrong with believing that. Just don't try to turn your interpretation, based on one or two sentences (and thus: very slim context) of the TOS into fact when, in reality, the context of those statements when read and understood through the entire paragraph and section make the meaning of those two sentences very clear. Though none of this matters because the fact is this: Most, if not ALL private parcels in G-Rated sims are full of items and furniture and gadgets that are just as naughty and adulty and raunchy as is the most popular freebie sex-parks on the grid. Go ahead: go snooping. AR all of them. Nothing will happen because it's not against TOS when it is privately owned stuff for personal, private use.

This will be my last reply on this subject regarding the TOS and its context.

You have my permission to place the last word on it.

My case is made and it is sound. The smart and wise people should read and interpret the TOS for themselves. Debating about whether it is right, wrong, allowed, disallowed and all the rest is nonsense because I have it set up the way I describe and you poo-poo the idea. *shrugs* - Come visit me, inspect all my stuff, and AR me. I am serious, this is not some quip or intended diatribe. This invitation is open to anyone.

    *Toothy-Grin*

  2. The maximum proxy bid is the most you will spend.

Then, when bidding you bid lower - if someone else is also bidding on the same parcel with a higher maximum proxy it will instantly outbid you. This goes back and forth until the first maximum proxy bid is reached, in which case the other will win that bidding debate. Then you have the opportunity to raise your maximum. Though it's wider to do this much closer to the bid closing date and time, else you just pull a lot more hair out of your head.

Edit to add: What LittleMe says.

What I describe is when you want to bid on a parcel that is already being bid on. If there are no bids yet, set your maximum then bid low. For example Set maximum to 10,000L$, then make a bid for 100L$. If someone else comes along and bids 200L$ the system will automatically bid on your behalf for 201L$ and will keep doing that until it bids your maximum (10,000L$ in this example) and you will be notified by email that you are outbid. Then you can go in and create anew maximum if you want.

  3. The purpose of a Terms of Service is to provide instructions and rules for legal purposes. Anyone with even the vaguest familiarity with how the law works and argues over the specific meanings of words is taken literally. Those words in the context of how they are used in a sentence are a what constitutes the specific and exact meaning of the statement.

Here is why places like Golden Sun beach and placing your 500 Pose Sex Bed inside your home on a G-Rated sim are not against the TOS:

    Quote

Promoting or catering to such behavior or representations violates our Community Standards. For instance, the placement of avatars appearing to represent minors in proximity to "sex beds" or...

    Quote

    promote | prəˈmōt |
    verb
1 further the progress of (something, especially a cause, venture, or aim); support or actively encourage: some regulation is still required to promote competition.
    • give publicity to (a product, organization, or venture) so as to increase sales or public awareness: they are using famous personalities to promote the library nationally.

    cater | ˈkādər |
    verb
    • (cater to) provide with what is needed or required: the school caters to children with learning difficulties.
    • (cater to) try to satisfy (a particular need or demand): he catered to her every whim.

    representation | ˌreprəˌzenˈtāSH(ə)n |
    noun
2 the description or portrayal of someone or something in a particular way or as being of a certain nature: the representation of women in newspapers.

And here the real big one:

    Quote

    placement | ˈplāsmənt |
    noun
the action of putting someone or something in a particular place or the fact of being placed: the proper placement of microphones.

Even though the OP highlights from the words "the placement..." onward, that alone does not mean anything because it is out of context. The full and proper context of that example must take the prior portion of the statement into account, meaning all three defined words above must work together to provide the full and proper context of the fourth.

Specifically: Either verb must be in effect before either noun can have the intended context.

On a side note to the OP: You friend is bull*****ting you by way of information-omission.

    1) Avatars are not banned for simply being in any particular place at any particular time.
    2) It requires several abuse reports from different people over the same or similar offense before Linden Lab will even take a serious look.

  4. AshaShanti,

I've been in SL for way more than ten years myself. These groups and "role play" themes have been around since 2004, at least. There used to be a lot of SL Magazines and "newspapers" way back then and I clearly recall an article about this type of thing. Though it was rather... 'disturbing' to me, that this very kind of thing could be a "thing" it also was a funny read. They interviewed the owners and creators of the place (long before most would buy a sim, so a place on Mature mainland back then, you're in SL long enough that I don't need to explain the rating Mature from back then, either).

They also interviewed a few of the "victims" and the oddest thing to me: they thought it was 'fun' to play also. When I say "funny" read, I literally mean I was chuckling. Sure, I was rolling my eyes at it all. The funny came from the fact that these "victims" who went through this process, which for all intents and purposes would be a one-time-only permanent process, would rinse and repeat.

Because the is SL and you can do that.

In the end here is where we are at (meaning this discussion; this thread; original post):

    1) Moral aspect. In your OP you use the word "abuse" - how do you mean? If you mean "moral abuse" then that's a fair statement. If you mean physical abuse people will slam you and laugh. This is SL, there is no such thing as physical abuse and I'll name the same and obvious cliche response to that when the subjects of rape, kidnapping, "murder" and all the rest come up: Giant X in the upper corner to go offline if anything is that disturbing to you. As for disturbing, there is "moral abuse" all over the grid and what is disturbing to you may not be to others and vice-versa.

    2) Legal aspect. Back in the beginning there even used to be open pedophilia sims and parcels that catered to that. Moral abuse? Absolutely, in my mind and to the majority of people, I would think. Linden Lab had a 100% hands-0ff policy regarding any and all content in SL because then the Gorean role players would come here, The cannibal role players would come here, the BDSM, D/S, Satanism crowds would all come here. Morally abusive themes? Perhaps. But not illegal, save for the pedophilia scenarios. This one subject alone almost ruined SL by the massively negative real-world news reports about it when it was fianlly discovered outside SL, even though it raged on for a few years. So they, LL, had to step in, change their TOS around and start babysitting the grid on legal grounds, even though the pedophile aspect, as atrocious as the very idea is to me, wasn't (based on my understanding of laws in the U.S. at least) illegal in SL - because of what SL is.

Based on those two points this group and sim scenario you bring up for discussion become a non-discussion for this reason:

    • It's not against the law or Linden Lab TOS.
    • You posed the majority of your post as a statement, rather than opinion.
    • You did not ask for others' opinion on the subject and to weigh-in on their perspectives.

The best way to create an engaging, smart thread on subjects like this would be to:

    • State your subject as an opinion of your own and make that clear.
    • Ask other's to give their opinions on the subject and any other helpful input.
    • Always make it clear that you understand anything you say is your purview and that you invite and respect others' purview.

  5. In the old days there were three ratings: G, PG, and Mature.

They dropped the PG (and it was more or less a laugh to have it) and added Adult. The reason for adding adult was so they could kill the teen grid (which was all G) and have a rating that they could block people from going to (The only "Adult-rated land is Zindra).

The ratings were as such: G: No nudity or adult advertising that showed nudity, etc. PG, Risque was okay, but no genitalia or nipples, Mature: olly-oxen-free. Then when PG went poof and Adult came in everyone presumes "Mature" was the new "PG" - not true. I may have missed a TOS change or something, but as far as I know "Mature" is still basically the same, except that now no open sex advertising in the open.

Basically - nudity is not a problem and even if you are abuse-reported it will take dozens of abuse-reports from different accounts before it raises a single flag for the Lindens. Because *****e happens on the grid as you describe.

  6. Doppelganger syndrome; a.k.a. "ZOMG, not ANOTHER Aesthetic clone! *Rolls Eyes*"

This is likely what you're running up against. Most guys with the triangle shape usually have arms way too short and heads way too small and it's extra funny when their man-bits are as large as their biceps.

I wore an Aesthetic for a couple years and had no problems and the way I did it was to completely change the face to be unrecognizable as a Nyrameth avatar. I started here: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/56539 Be sure you choose one with the Aesthetic logo if you go that route (I wore the Nalbone face, myself - though I have since dropped that body and head altogether).

The second thing to do is reshape to be a lot more natural: no triangle shape; narrow your shoulders so they are just a touch wider than your hips, add a little belly, and lengthen your arms so middle finger comes to the mid-point of your thigh. (I am a graphic designer and photographer in RL, so I notice these things all the time). In short: tone yourself way down. Here is what I keep hearing, myself when I wore it and still today when talked about: Aesthetic is "creepy". That's from many of the ladies. So start by not looking like just another clone, giving people reason to roll their eyes.

And I mention all this more as an expression of what I went through and did while I was wearing that body and head. Though like I said, I've grown out of it and went with something a little more mainstream-looking. Though in more than ten years in SL that damned Nalbone face was the best I ever had and got a LOT is awesome comments. :)

  7. Agreed - flush your cache out and maybe get something like AppZapper and drop firestorm onto it (it will collect all related files and offer to torch them) - then download a fresh copy if the cache thing doesn't do it for.

In short: I've not seen any issues that weren't there before.

I don't hate it, just put off because of people saying its overly complicated and unsupported.  I wouldn't be surprised if its also just that its not new.  Its like when I see people asking about male bodies in some groups, everyone is falling over themselves to recommend sig gia, it does look nice in every way to me but one... on every guy I've seen wearing it, weird monkey arms/shoulders but its new so it must be better. *shrugs*  Only male body I've seen look "right" so far is slink.

Then again, I have a thing about body proportions looking "right", not that I don't mind variation, but, you know, within the bounds of some reality.

    3

(And the other comments about Gianni, et al, personally I don't like the Gianni at all - but that's me for me.)

I went looking at TMP when I first started looking at this stuff. Decided to just stay with a system Avie (and hey: THOSE can still look awesome if done right).

When I went shopping for one recently I looked at the Gianni and I found the same thing as quoted above: the weird way the shoulders and arms look. I also looked at the Adam, which even has a matching head - but the face is just way too wrong for what I want and... and... making a long story short, here's the way I shopped - and recommend the OP do the same:

Grab every demo you can find, both body and head. Scrutinize the hell out of it (I decided to go with the new Belleza myself with a Catwa Bento head and I like the overall look better than the rest, I feel the same way about all three Belleza ladies as compared to the others, including Maitreya - but they are all very good - even the TMP).

Once you're leaning toward the body you like - and do scrutinize every aspect - THEN Shop like you've won the lottery for it, clothing, AO, accessories all of it. You don't have to buy it all, but scout the Marketplace to see how easy it is or not to find a decent selection. And do that by searching the body name, such as "Belleza" or "Maitreya", etc. I wore an Aesthetic for a couple years because I was so darned invested into it, but got tired of it (even with a face they prevented doppelganger syndrome). HOWEVER< with a switch like this it will be a massive reinvestment into yourself - so do as much pre-shopping as you can before you finally buy one.

  9. Move to the old Teen grid. G-rated (though you can do anything you want INSIDE your abode) - and it's clean as a whistle. best-kept secret in SL for land. To see the mini-continent I'm speaking of, open Map and type in Yarmouth. Lots of land for sale there at 2006 prices.

  10. Your request is very ambiguous. What type of photography are you seeking: Landscape, architecture, portrait, candid people, Product marketing - because a great photographer may be great at one, but not the others.

I do Pro Photography in RL, so I am obviously curious about what it is you' re asking for.

  11. I may be misremembering, I believe object entry applies to scripted and non-scripted objects. When sitting on an object (example: a vehicle) it is treated as a temporary attachment and not an "object" and so the object entry rules should not apply. As far as what the OP describes it may be something else other than a no object entry setting. Just thinking aloud because I don;t recall ever having this issue myself.

If you allow TP into the parcel, then anyone could see you at any height.  And once they TP to the ground set landing point, they can easily fly up to wherever the skybox is.

Basically, anyone you allow onto the parcel can then get to any location on the parcel unless you have a Security Orb protecting part of the parcel.  Yet that still will not prevent the peeping if they are already on the parcel.

The is the main truth point.

But here's the thing: SL, for good or bad, is still 80-90% all naughty adult stuff. One simply cannot avoid it. I say that to say this: Anyone other than an incredibly-curious newbie , just won't care. So I wouldn't be concerned with peepers. You'll be peeped on. If you're doing the adulty stuff then emote and chat in IM, that is always private. As for land security: use a security orb - IM me in world, I'll give you a free one - or you can find some really good free full-perms security orb scripts on Market Place  (Never spend L$ for a security orb, not worth it unless you own half a region or larger). - BUT, be *NICE* about it. At least set a 10 second (or longer warning. :) This is your best solution.

I have ban lines turned off. I only know they are there when i bump into one and get the "not allowed onto parcel" message

I've never been bounced to the sim edge or set home, unless of course the whole sim is set with ban lines.

Try it while sailing a boat or flying an aircraft (while "sitting" on something). :)

You can set a teleport landing point on the ground. Any lms they set inside your skybox will have them land on the ground when they use it.

This is true. Does not solve the peeping issue if your skybox is higher than about 70 meters.

So here's the extreme method to creating what you are talking about:

Build your place on the ground or within 50 meters of it.

Set the privacy option s on your parcel so that no one can see avatars on your parcel (meaning they cannot cam into your parcel and see avatars)

Set all sounds and voice to be "restricted to this parcel"

    Set access to Group Only.

There, now you have a locked-down parcel with more privacy than anyone has had in SL before.

Here are the caveats to this: Access = group only creates ban lines and THAT SUCKS for everyone else. In the old days, you could see ban lines from much farther away, easier to avoid them and if you bumped into one you where bounced back. Nowadays you cannot see them until you are right on top of them and bumping into them is as bad as those F*CKING dumb*ss "security orb" set to zero warning: they throw you to the edge of a sim or worse: TP you home. So basically if you set this up this way you *could* be one of those D*ckheads - unless it is located in a sparsely-traveled area.

Caveat two is: To invite your friends you have to add them to your group, then remove them from your group when done, or: change access to anyone during visiting hours then change it back to the group when done.

The alternative (for the landmarking thing) is exactly as described by Billijo: Set TP landing to the ground when using a skybox. But no way to keep peepers out. I keep my own draw distance set to 1024 - I can cam three sims away and see everything. However, no one really cares what naughty you may be doing other than curious newbies; most in SL for more than a month or two really just don't care much.

No, i'm just saying the easiest way to improve your performance especially frame rate is to derender all the moving lights, floors, all that annoying club crap. To me this is just more moving crap that's gonna slow me down.

People are gonna use it, and more power to them but i'm not gonna let it affect my experience at any given place or time.

Oh and I always derender moving animals etc too.

Enjoy your animesh, but don't expect me to enjoy it.

This is true. OR, you could turn your settings down.

When I bring my big Dixie Belle Riverboat past Sirens Isle and someone passive-aggressively shouts about it is a lag-causer, my usual reply is the only lag being seen is by people with POS computers with graphics turned all the way up.

I want to be clear here: I am NOT dissing on you, BillJo - I am speaking in general terms. SIM lag, where the sim itself is choking because way too many scripts is genuine lag. Network latency (coming from SL or one of the 50 black boxes on the internet your connection goes through is genuine lag. But framerate issues is on you; all you. Or, more specifically: your computer's ability to draw the picture at the quality you want it to 30 times a second.

Certainly, derendring things are one way to go about it, but it would be a lot less work and frustration if you just turn your graphics settings down. Use the presets.

As for the OP subject: I can see where this is a great addition to the grid, though the examples are all human "avatar" types, I can see it being used in a lot of other things. For example robots, gadgets, vehicles - for example, A jet with folding or retractable wings, etc. This means the creator can use an animation rather than scripts to achieve these functions, and "genuine" lag will be relieved in that respect.

Though, as with all the new tech LL throws into the grid, it will be quite some time before we really start seeing how this can be used. I think it's a great addition to the grid.

  16. Yes, we are shpethule! LOL

I take everything tongue-in-cheek. Been in SL way too long to take it any other way.

@OP - I get your point, and nothing wrong with bringing it up for a discussion. The main reason for my initial reply  - which really isn't fair to you (OP) - comes from what I am always constantly seeing in SL profiles and such: So much angst along with a heavy dose of entitlement syndrome.

I see the entire Blake Sea area - and ALL water sims that are (more or less) connected to it that are not *inside( the "mainland" as a gift. These are sims no one is paying that LL is providing gratis at the request of the original Sailing Community (MarkTwain White and Company coordinating with LL) So, if all these sims are provided for free, for community use and owned by the SIMGODS, then do the SIMGODS not have the very right to use and reapply how those sims are used at-will?

The Glytch game is a two-part thing: 1) to create a little something for all the amazingly bored people standing around at places like Open Collar and other hook-up venues to go do something that is actually kind of fun to do. 2) Private parcel owners can also have these things because it will actually generate real, live traffic for them. So, technically speaking, no matter how you look at it or think of it, it really is sort of a win-win, right?

And to update my original comment: Yes, I have now seen where that area described by the OP is now active (and also one of the suckier Glytch zone setups, actually).

Anyway - just wanted to throw in that yes, OP: I get it, and I feel for you. Though I do a crap-ton of sailing myself and tacking on even a 1-quarter strip of sim is not an issue for me. This is partly why I replied the way I did, though by not making it clear that I am tongue-in-cheek chuckling as I do it makes it uncalled-for and not really fair. So I do so directly apologize. And since I don;t believe in political correctness BS I will actually say the words: I am sorry.

  17. Well, let us actually answer the OP's question...

    1) You don't pay "tier" - you pay "Land Use" fees at a particular tier.

    2) When you are billed for Land Use fees, it is not calculated on how much land you own now. Rather it is calculated on the most land you have owned during the billing period and thus you are billed at the tier level for that amount. If you own 1024, buy another 1024, then immediately sell the first 1024 you will be billed at 2048 tier level (you have at one time - even for a few seconds - owned 2048 M2) - so sell the first 1024 BEFORE you buy the next 1024 to remain at that tier level. Now for the OP's scenario:

You own a group that owns 1024 M2 - Since the land is owned by the group, the group cannot pay for the land: YOU (or others in the group) must *donate* land use fees to cover that cost. IF that land is sold, you are still donating that 1024 M2 to *the group*. So now you and the group now do not own any land, but you want to buy another 1024 M2 of land (the same one or a different one) - here is what is happening:

You are still donating the first 1024 *to the group* so the GROUP can own land. If you buy new 1024 - that is a total of 2048 of land use you are now responsible for: The 1024 for the land you just purchased + the 1024 you are donating to the group. This will raise your tier level to 2048.

    HOW TO GET AROUND IT:

1 Buy the land FOR THE GROUP. You already donate the 1024 to the group, so the group can now purchase land up to 1024 (Actually a little more as group-owned land gets a slight bonus)

2.In your account page at secondlife.com - remove your donation of 1024 M2 to the group - so you are not donating anything to the group - now buy the land as you normally would. You can then (if desired) deed it to the group again.
