  1. can you please actually update the engine so that it doesnt run like hot smothered garbage on basically any pc?

maybe this should be your priority instead of trying to pull the rug off basic accounts, especially since many of those people including myself may have spent some pretty penny topping up linden cash through your service.

Depends, I think SL could thrive for quite awhile next decade or so. However, that's if LL decide to update  their engine. And quit investing so much on a dead product like Sansar.

VR isn't gonna be worth money looking at until another decade.

honestly they should rather scrap Sansar altogether and bring that engine into SL because for whatever reason Sansar isnt as much of a lagcity than SL

then again it was probably because Sansar for the most part is a ghost town

It will only evolve as long as the revenue comes in.  I doubt it will last another 15 years though.  I don't know of any multiplayer game or online world that is 30 years old.  The feeling i got from LL, was that Virtual Reality was going to bring in an entire new userbase to Sansar, while leaving SL to fade out on the side.  This was probably their vision and "evolution" of SL and it's userbase.  The problem is, it hasn't been widely adopted yet.  Linden Lab was actually developing a VR Viewer for SL but then abandoned it and focused on Sansar,  because they see it as the future.  Whether it happens, is yet to be seen, but it's not looking good for Sansar or any other virtual reality world out there.  The only one with mild success is VR Chat.

    "bring an entire userbase"

I have no idea who any of you are.  Nor do I care about you (EDIT: I am a nice person of course I care).  I have been playing this "thing" off and on almost conception.  I first heard of it because it was going to change the world.  My company was going to have meetings inside their magical universe.  The graphics are crap.  They have not been upgraded since the 1920s?  I mean my Apple 2 or Packard Bell had just as good animations.  The load times are intolerable....  The lag is horrific.  Clearly there is a small fan base though the corporation does not care about the game - I think its cool.  I think they should.  But I just.... I just vomit when I play it.

what company are we talking about exactly? McDonalds? a company you founded in your mom's basement while playing ***** a duty and munching on doritos? Because I smell some bullllshiiiiiiit bragging about sthg that doesnt exist.

With this attitude you have, I can clearly say you have no company whatsoever and you just wanted to use big words over the internet to feel like a big boy. How do I know it? because actually succesful established people dont feel the need to brag and act all high and mighty.

Then again please prove us wrong and show us the company you supposedly have and no excuse whatsoever as to why you cannot. You wanted to play the smart guy over the forums, now roll with it or take the hit like a man.

Right now, I think you are as much of a company owner as I am Santa Claus.

The old and tiring metaphor of equating VR with 3D TV persists for a few, but VR/AR is not a fad...it's the evolution of the internet.

I think you need to get onto some other forums where VR enthusiasts congregate to fully understand how appealing VR is to many.
VR/AR is steadily growing now, though not as fast as was predicted by some. If you look at educational and medical applications you will see all the ways VR/AR is being used even now, and learn of future plans to include even more VR in these industries.
We're not 30 years into the current iteration of VR headsets (headsets that are for home use -- easier to use than the old ones, and less expensive). The current iteration only began in 2015 or so.
High-end VR headsets like the Vive and Oculus keep improving, as well as mid to low-end headsets for Playstation & other types that require mobile phones.

I see VR/AR like a baby being born, coming in waves that manifest like labor pains and then die down -- the fact that they die down does not mean VR is failing, rather the coming back over and over again is evidence that something is trying to be born. We only had to wait for better PC power and price reductions to allow for home use & the steady momentum that follows.

But to your other point, about LL neglecting SL, I'm not sure pouring more money into SL would bring in new people. It might make some of us already here have more fun, but we'd stay around anyway so why should they spend the money?  I have one big exception to the idea that not much can be done to attract/keep new users though, and that is the avatar problem -- I imagine this turns away new users due to the excessive complexity of the process and the expense.
I see LL as taking a chance on the evolving internet as they realize SL can only be updated so much. It might be too soon for VR/AR though is the problem.

Oh believe me theres still plenty of things they could do with SL if only they kept their focus on it instead of deviating into hopeless projects that dont go anywhere

That's what scares me. Yes, Sansar has no users now, but someday... That's an excuse for pouring more money down the money drain and neglecting SL.

VR is a niche product with this generation of hardware. It's the new 3D TV. Even the successful VR games, such as Beat Saber, have only a few thousand users. Maybe 5 years out, there might be better hardware. But we're 5 years into Oculus development, and it hasn't improved much. We're 30 years into VR headsets, and they're still a pain.

This is the reality of Sansar usage. For a free product. Can't even give it away.

It's time to pull the plug.

yeah someday maybe in 2020+ when the technology will finally come to a normal pricepoint

whoever at the company had this brilliant idea, i hope that person is fired since long.

Like, what was the thought process behind this even?

"Oh we have this virtual life platform that has been going strong since 12 years now, I wonder what else we should work on next, perhaps updating the engine to something more stable/optimising things? Nah, screw that, lets make a completely new product that is essentially competing with our old one, Im sure folks will totally love it and that it will totally rake in millions of dollars!"

  6. out of sheer curiosity i decided to download Sansar on steam and see whats up

I looked up the worlds, and I kid you not, I was able to find maybe ONE or two people beside me in all the active worlds. That is not a good sign, even if Sansar is still in its early debut.

To list one positive thing though: the overall "gameplay/ virtual grid experience feels much more smoother compared to SL (though i didnt had the occasion to test how well it holds in crowded areas for the very obvious reason that it was a literal ghosttown (and peeking at steamcharts data, there was roughly 9 people playing 24 minutes ago)

Now I assume both the Steam and standalone version share the same servers which reinforces the simple fact that there is hardly any interest in Sansar, especially because it roughly tries to mimicate an already existing virtual world called SECOND LIFE.  I mean dear LL, what exactly is your game plan with this?  If you wanna bring VR users to the mix, thats fine. But wouldnt it be easier to have it concentrate on ONE platform and rework the SL engine with the one you have in Sansar, make a second life 2.0 update?

Im no economical marketer so im not gonna pretend I know any better than the finance people at Linden Labs but as a SL citizen, i just cant help but shake my head, because it feels like so much cash wasted into a pet project that evidently is nowhere near as popular as they probably hoped it would be. Right now, Sansar feels like its going nowhere and I rather have them invest time and money into SL.

I think I can say it without much doubt in my head that most of us never wanted LL to start making ANOTHER virtual world project when their main one is still in dire need of optimisation and fixing so that it could finally run better than a bowl of potato.

Its time to be honest with ourselves:

    Sansar

    has

    failed

There was never a point when this was needed to anyone

  7. I just wish LL would focus on fixing SL, because the **** engine still runs like a trainwreck regardless of your system or internet connection.

Please, just dont beat a dead horse, you still have people throwing money at you through ingame Linden Cash purchases and SL premium membership.

  8. I consider adult places to be those where there is actual explicit sexual content displayed/ naked avatars etc

Then again thats just me and honestly I dont think there isnt as much of a noticeable difference between M and A rated places in a hindsight, other than A paces to be pretty much free for all 18+ content

  9. I think the thing with SL, what most people dont seem to understand :

SL is essentially a sandbox, where if you can dream it, you can most certainly replicate it in the Grid.

The tricky part sometimes is to find places and people that really click with you so to say and initially establishing a social circle in which you feel comfortable being in Second Life, as well as not being afraid to go out and meet new people, make new experiences

lord its 2018 almost 2019 and most every company has 2FA of there there own making or trough other company's like google PLZ LL PLLLZZZZZZ add 2FA i no a lot of ppl would be more willing to put RL money into sl if they knew that there billing info would be safer i mean it really would not take much to implement on to a the viewer and website it could even be like steam guard where u only have to do it once for that ip address/ computer

if you use common sense and a basic antivirus/firewall, your billing info IS safe

bonus points if you get sms confirmation of your bank transactions

  11. I really see more smoke than fire with this

You talk about harassers and trolls yet you dont realise just how easy is for them to use an alt to do such if they dont wanna use their real nick

so i really fail to see just what exactly your suggestion is meant to solved other than giving fuel to primitive "mob justice" systems

The thing is: its not even pc related NECESSARILY

you can have the biggest beast of a pc and you would still have lag on SL due to custom content that needs to be loaded and meshes. I dont think lag can ever be fixed, not without removing custom contents altogether and not without recoding SL from scratch altogether which isnt happening especially with Sansar around the corner.

Really? we are going to make virtual reality as good as reality? Why?

I notice you didn't mention genital attachments.

Imagine the sensations when you are having virtual reality sex with that special someone.

The whole thing kind of sounds pathetic to be honest.

Not to mention that wasnt the idea of virtual world being to essentially escape from real life?

Gotta pay the $750 for the toilet upgrade, it was so difficult trying to sit down and pee in 200lb sensor armour!"

Yeah, thanks but no thanks, don't want to have to play hi-tech mo-cap dress-up just to log in to "art business and education".

Art's better seen in person real time if you like art that much, business meh, and education online has always been a failed pipedream.

what kind of education are we talking about here?

I’d say it’s because SL has a serious lag problem and not everyone can afford high-end PCs to play a chatroom type game. Not to mention, there’s hardly anything to do in the game itself, sadly.

Do you feel like there is something missing from your SL experience? I need a project, Something to fill my time here with.

I have a lot of ideas of my own but I want to know what others wish to find. I can do anything from creating and Roleplay experience to a store that sells a particular type of item.

Clubs in SL seem to take up most of the entertainment here and I don't really want to do that.

    Just looking for suggestions. :)

    more active communities to join

I cant stand clubs and places where 90 percent of people are essentially parking and nobody talks with each other, it feels so empty
