Building Autistic Community, Inc is 501(c)3 non-profit organization run by and for adults on the autism spectrum. We currently seek a coordinator to oversee the day-to-day development of our Second Life office. We have recently opened our first virtual space to use as a platform for facilitating dialogue, education, productivity, and basic human connection. We intend for this space to allow new and old members to congregate in am active and formalized virtual community center. Virtual spaces such as Second Life allow persons such as ourselves who live with anxiety, depression and transportation issues to congregate in one place with likeminded people. This social connection is absolutely essential to many of us whom are too often isolated from positive human contact. The Virtual Office Coordinator role develops a healthy and robust community for adults on the autism spectrum to facilitate dialogue, education, productivity, and basic human connection. This role serves both functions of Office Manager and Volunteer Coordinator. The role implies the following functions: : Ensure a healthy and positive social environment : Support good attendance by checking in with members and volunteers : Support the BAC director to create new virtual volunteer projects : Examine the boundaries of how virtual collaboration and community-building have been performed : Attend interesting discussions and networking events with BAC members and staff about virtual worlds and disabilities : Participate in ongoing discussions with BAC staff on how virtual worlds can provide personal growth to people with autism : Provide encouragement and constructive feedback to members : Ensure new members are using the Second Life client safely and correctly : Support the development of new support groups, discussion topics, and events The Virtual Office Coordinator will have the benefit of meeting exciting people in the field of virtual worlds, including educators, researchers, disability advocates, and businesspersons who see virtual worlds as the next vehicle for human development. Competency with Second Life is essential to this role. Familiarity with Asperger's syndrome, high-functioning autism, anxiety, and/or depression are helpful, but not essential. Basic Google Apps ability is helpful as well. This role requires a minimum 18 years of age and 10 - 15 hours per week.
