That helped me ALOT when considering on how I should build my PC.

Keep in mind, the budget you have will only accomodate for a generally low-end PC and most computers that come with a good graphics card or other ghigh-end specs usually range from $900-1100 and even more!

I'm not saying it won't work, I'm just saying don't hold your breath.

Good luck and have a Happy New Years!~

  2. Interesting! :)

Also, disregard the link I gave. Val's is much more efficient. Guess they uploaded to vid to YouTube finally.(yay)

Also, @everyone else, does anyone know the documentary where this one resident preferred SL more than RL and left a 10 episode machinima as an only clue before disappearing? Forgot the title. :L

  3. Sup!Sup! \(^ o ^)/

So, usually I see SL shown in a kinda-ish bad light.

It seems people find pointing out the flaws more enjoyable rather than noticing postives which isn't for EVERYONE but, I've seen a trend.

If you look up certain documentaries, articles, and other pages through Google/Youtube, a majority of how SL is portayed is mostly with negative views showing how it can lead only through addiction, marriage problems, anti-social behavior, etc.

Obviously, these statements may or may not be true depending on the person and usually the negative stuff sells.

What really suprises me is that many people actually know what SL is from gamers to non-gamers and usually when a friend/family member/relative sees me while I'm on, I'm usually greeted with a response of "Is that the game where you can make money/have sex?" or "I seen that on the news, some weird things going on there." or along those lines.

I would like to know from mostly the normies and not really the more strategic/talented/skilled users(but you are free to :) )

In what way has SL affected you life personally? It can be physically, emotinally, mentally, your view on RL, whatever. Also, do you think the reputation of SL keeps newbies from joining or has a part in it?

Thank you for reading and I look foward to your responses!

  4. I don't have a need to have a online indentity.

I'm pretty sure the majority of the users here don't initially think, "Oh boy! Time to be a completely different person and have this as an outlet."However, since I don't know every single user, that's my opinion.

From the get-go I didn't come to act completely different from myself IRL, it's actually one of the things I try to avoid most of all when using SL because I feel like I'm lying to myself. From time to time I do catch myself being a bit different from my RL self but it's not from much.

I would say If I had to choose an example it would be that I'm more prone to start a conversation and may be a bit more talkative than IRL. I guess it's natural with SL being a social platform and all but, you have this advantage of thinking before you reply so when you do get into a conversation, that pressure is mostly gone and your words are more fluent.

Anyways, my purpose for using SL, and still, is to explore, chat, create and discover. It's one of the few communities where I feel it's like a melting pot with a variety of age groups, personalties that may or may not change yours as well.

  5. Welcome to SL! :)

You can discover many places that relate to your interests by going to the "search" tab and typing in a certain keyword. Hopefully, you will be able to find what you're looking for and maybe other users who enjoy the same thing you do.

For learning languages and new things, SL offers a variety of classes which mostly revolve around building and other ways to navigate through SL but I'm sure there's also a class for languages as well if you search too. There's also a Education Forum here so you may want to try your luck by posting what you want to find over there too if you're having trouble.

Hope this helps! Have a nice day and I hope you enjoy your time here in SL!

  6. Hello, I'm considering on purchasing a desktop which got me curious on how many FPS I will achieve with the specs I chose:http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/Desktop-questions/qaq-p/2334369 (link to a previous forum post)

    So, what are your specs?

I'm mainly looking for the processor, RAM, GPU, and amount of PING you recieve from your wired/wireless connection (please include that detail with your list of specs as well).

If you have any additional information such as on how to hit higher numbers in FPS such as amount of ping, type of graphics card and it's horse power, etc.-please, feel free to include that info as well.

Thank you very much and I truly appreciate all of your helpful responses! :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:

Those of the specs of the desktop I'm considering of buying. For my questions I would like to know:

    • What type of memory module I should purchase? (They ones available are:DDR3-1600 Memory Module,DDR3-1866 Memory Module, or DDR3-2133 Memory Module. I plan on purchasing each module with 8gb but I would like to know if the different types of modules will have a BIG affect. G.Skill Ripjaws X is the brand of RAM I'm thinking of purchasing.

    • What type of Wattage should I purchase? The lowest I can go is a 500W but from I hear, that not might cut it and I would only get by with it.

I would like to be able to run SL on High settings with:

    • Transparent water
    • Bump Mapping and shiny
    • Local Lights
    • Basic Shaders
    • Atmostspheric shaders
    • Draw Distance= 64-128
    • Max Particle count=0
    • Max # of imposter avatars=10
    • Post Process Quality
    • Mesh Detail=All marked high excluding Sky detail
    • Avatar Impostors: check
    • Hardwar Skinning: check
    • Terrain Detail=High
    • Water reflection= Minimal but I might switch it to everything
    • Avatar Physics: High

    Ping: 40ms

    DWNLD SPD: 10.83 mps

    UPLD SPD: 1.45 mps

for avatars lets say 60 since some hotspots have that many avatars
