I rarely make first contact inworld when I'm at a social sim, such as a ballroom or chat area. And I mean VERY rarely. The two occasions I did this week, I was met with hostility and rudeness, one even saying that I was like everyone else and I should go away. I'd pretty much said hello and commented on the question in their profile "Why do people friend you and then uncheck so you can't see them?". Not sure where the hell that tirade came from lol.

So let's try here. Any actual friendly people here that would like to hang out inworld sometime? I've been away and my friends list is pretty... dead lol

Hi Andrew. I have met so many wonderful and friendly people in SL. It is rare that I run in to someone who is an out and out jerk. I love going to ballrooms and fishing. You are welcome to fish with me and my friends sometime. :) We are a huge group and I will be happy to show you how it works. If you want to give it a whirl just let me know. Here is the place to get a fishing rod:

I can assure you we are a friendly bunch and you will find lots of people to hang out with besides a mermaid. Lol.

  2. Hi there! My name is Mermaid Celene. I love animals too. Not in to astrology though. Lol.  I love dolphins, horses, cats, etc. SL has a huge animal community. You should check out some of the animal avs on marketplace and in world. I saw a tiny polar bear the other day.

If you want to explore a lot and meet tons of new people, you  should try fishing. The game I play is called Fish Hunt. We fish for lindens and have a ton of fun. Some people farm and breed cute creatures called shubbies. You can learn more on their website. I do hear they are quite cuddly and make good shoulder pets.

    Here is the website: goldtokens.net.

And the LM to the main fishing area where you can get a rod if you want to try it: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Business Park/104/149/22

I am sure you know about shoulder pets. They are probably the same from when you were here before. Avs are a bit more complex though. New bodies have taken over SL. Lol. Anyway, hope to see you around sometime!

I don't know why it's so hard making friends in SL. Ironically it used to be much simpler back in the prim/sculpty days when everyone looked like a clown, 90% of my friends list came from those days, and almost all my "active" friends are from then as well, but as expected most of those old friends have already quit SL. I try to be very friendly, chatty, funny, and open to all interests as long as I'm not totally grossed out by it (e.g. amputation or something), sometimes going as far as pretending I'm really into something just to get the conversation going even though I'm kinda meh about it (e.g. dancing). I try going to different places, including a few 18+ places. I'm an introvert though I try my best IMing others, usually complimenting their looks even though sometimes I think their look is meh but their profile interests me.

I don't know what else I'm supposed to do. So far 99% of the "conversations" I get are either rude, boring (basically all I get are 1-2 word replies "hi" "ok" "thank u"), creepy (had a couple of people ask my RL address within a few sentences), completely ignored, or just bland dirty talk. I'm pretty sure my appearance is not a factor cause I spend a ridiculous amount of time perfecting it and almost everyone I talk with approve of it. I do have a distinctive Asian look though... I really hope it's not because most people only want to chat with people who look like they're from an English speaking country for a lack of a better word... Either most of the people in the places I go to are just not friend-worthy or I'm not trying hard enough? I literally think it's easier to make friends IRL than here...

Anyway mostly just venting... wondering if anyone else feels the same.

Melodic, you should never do things you are not comfortable with just to try and make a friend. I can't tell you I have had a hard time making friends in SL because I have been very fortunate. I have a ton of friends.

I don't know if you are interested in fishing, trivia, but if you are, I could show you around the community I am a member of called Linden Gold Hunters. I promise it is a friendly community. You are bound to make friends there.

    Feel free to IM me!

And, I think you just haven't found the right places yet for meeting people. There are a lot of friendly people in SL along with the creepy crowd.

Hi, my name is Celene. I call myself Mermaid Celene in world. I am a blind Second Life user and I use a text-only viewer called Radegast. I have been a resident for nine years. My SL hobbies are: fishing, trivia, hanging out with friends, volunteering, exploring, and collecting ball gowns in every bright color known to man. I love shopping and finding freebies! My inventory is full and getting fuller every day. :)

  5. Hi, Iikay. I love pink as well. I love bright colors in general. I have a huge ball gown collection in every color you can imagine. Anyway, have you thought about joining an in world community? I am a member of a ton of groups and I have made most of my friends that way.

I am not sure what your interests are, but I love fishing. I do it all the time. If you want to give that a try, the community around Fish Hunt, the one I like so much, is huge. You are sure to make lots of friends in there.

  6. Hi there! My name is Celene. Welcome to SL! I have been here for almost ten years and I am always finding new places to explore and making new friends.

If you are looking for people to meet I suggest giving fishing for lindens a try. I am an avid fisher and the group has a huge community of people all over the world. I am in the U.S. too and I find that there are always tons of people online.

The linden is the in-world currency. It isn't necessary to have them, but they can come in handy sometimes. Anyway, if you are interested in exploring and meeting a ton of people, check them out! I joined about six years ago and have loved every minute of it.

Here is the link to Business Park where the headquarters of the fishing game is:

They have a lot of other games too and trivia if fishing isn't your thing. I do trivia a lot. SL has a large trivia fan base!
