  1. We’re pleased to announce that the Communications Hub User Interface (CHUI) Viewer is going into beta. We received tremendously helpful feedback from users during the Project Viewer cycle. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to test, file bug reports, and offer suggestions for improvement. We had a number of high-level goals for CHUI: Bring all communication functions and conversation text into a single window Provide a single notification system, with more detailed user controls Stop losing IMs -- keep a log of all conversations, including attempted conversations and IMs received while not logged in View chat transcripts inside the Viewer, and control them more easily Replace Busy mode with Do Not Disturb mode, a richer and more consistent feature These features are packaged in a more flexible UI that lets you customize it for the way you like to communicate in Second Life.  You can even turn it all off when you want to build, make movies, or simply be left alone for a while. We have also provided more ways to find and use key features. For example, whether you’re a “menu person” or a “right-click person,” you’ll be able to use the features as you prefer. We created a nice introductory video to get you up to speed quickly. In more detail, the CHUI Viewer lets you: Add participants to a conversation already in progress See all of your conversations, and everyone in those conversations, using an inventory-like UI Quickly move your voice connection between conversations and effortlessly adjust individual volume or overall volume in a single click View all of your recent communications in one window (Conversation Log) See what was said in any conversation (Conversation Transcripts) Set yourself DND to focus on other things and get all the communications (and inventory offers!) you missed, after you come back Choose from four levels of notification for each of five different kinds of incoming communication. You can set IMs from friends and IMs from non-friends to different levels of notification. Turn sound on and off for four different events, such as inventory offers and teleport offers Access voice morphs more easily Open chat preferences and privacy preferences directly from the Conversations window. Type your chats into a larger, multiple-line box Select multiple users across different conversations and start a new conference with them Choose which conversations are in their own windows, and which should be in a tabbed window. Now you can have both. See users and objects you have blocked under a new tab in the People window. There’s a lot to discover as you use the CHUI Viewer.  Please continue to give us your feedback in jira.  We hope you like CHUI as much as we do.
  2. You may wish to try a feature in development that we call CHUI, which is a major revision to the communication tools in SL. CHUI offers richer and more granular notification choices. The latest project viewer for CHUI can be found at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alternate_Viewers After you've installed and launched it, check out the notification preferences under Preferences > Chat. If you search for "CHUI" in this forum, you'll find 3 posts about CHUI, which you may find informative.
  3. Today we released a new CHUI project viewer.   You'll find a new feature, Do Not Disturb, which resembles Busy mode, but is more complete and controllable.   We fixed a number of bugs related to: * Filtering by search terms * Torn-off conversation menu and options * Window resizing and scrolling, text wrapping, and highlighting * Display name hiding and showing * Voice calls * Notifications * Crashes   We also added a number of Help menu items that we hope will help residents more easily find the abundant information about Second Life that is available outside the Viewer.   The project viewer can be downloaded  from http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alternate_Viewers As before, please file bugs and other feedback in CHUIBUG:  https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/chuibug For more information on CHUI, you may wish to read the original blog post at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/The-Communications-Hub-User-Interface-CHUI-Launches-Today/ba-p/1708805
  4. Hey everyone. We just released a new CHUI project viewer. Details are here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/New-CHUI-project-viewer-now-available/td-p/1776909 Enjoy!
  5. Today we bring you the next version of the CHUI project viewer.  Notable changes from the last project viewer include: Addition of notifications and notification preferences Smaller Conversations and People windows with increased resizability Adding more ways to get to certain functions. For example, we added a speak button to the Conversations window toolbar Improved performance Bug fixes and polish The project viewer can be downloaded  from http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alternate_Viewers We appreciate the great feedback on the first project viewer, all of which we carefully considered and incorporated where appropriate.  Work remains on Do Not Disturb mode, which is an enhancement of the old Busy Mode. As before, please file bugs and other feedback in CHUIBUG:  https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/chuibug For more information on CHUI, you may wish to read the original blog post at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/The-Communications-Hub-User-Interface-CHUI-Launches-Today/ba-p/1708805 Happy holidays, and we’ll see you in the new year.
  6. Hi all. We did indeed plan to release a survey, but a number of residents have submitted not just bugs, but general opinions, in JIRA. As JIRA seems to be working well for feedback, we may not release a formal survey after all. Since releasing the project viewer, we've been working on a critical piece of CHUI, the notification subsystem. IN CHUI, you'll have more flexible and more diverse options for being alerted of incoming communications. We've also been using the feedback we've received so far in our ongoing work. You can expect the next project viewer, which will include these new functions, by the end of December. You should feel free to file JIRAs for any feedback you wish to offer. In particular, we want to know if the new functions (such as the conversation log) are usable and convenient, and improve the viewer communication experience. We also want to know if you think the reorganization of the communication functions will help new residents get up to speed more quickly. However, any and all feedback you send us is of great interest to us. Thanks everyone.
