Actually some V1 functions have already been broke but so far they have been insignificant, being mainly certain notifications.

But to the thread in general, I just did a major upgrade to me computer so I can't compare past experience with present.  The only thing I have noticed is are long rez times on crowded SIMs but I may just be needing to tweak my settings.  Other than that it's been awesomely smooth sailing for me.

Yea, I know about the insignificant changes. The big one as of late has been large group info not loading or giving off grevious errors.

I just updated my graphics card Friday actually.  I am in no powerhouse computer. My 3DMark11 score is decent at P4940 or something like that.

I went as far as going into the Nvidia Control Panel and setting certain features to override Firestorm or to enhance a paricular setting.

Open the Nvidia Control Panel >> Manage 3D Settings. Progam to customize is Firestorm. These are my current Nvidia Control Panel settings that I have changed:

    Antialialisaing - FXAA  = OFF

Antialialisaing - Gamma Correction = On

Antialiasliaing - Mode = Override any application settings

    Antialiasliaing - Setting = 4x

Texture Filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization = OFF

Texture Filtering - Negative LOD Bias = Allow

    Threaded Optimation = OFF

Texture Filtering - Anisotropic Filter Optimization = OFF

Everything else is set to defaults.

    My specs:

Operating System:  Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1

    CPU Type:  QuadCore Intel Core i5-2320, 3100 MHz (31 x 100)

    System Memory: 8172 MB  (DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM)

Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti  (2048 MB)

Firestorm, LL official viewer and all viewers based on 3 or 4 (FS) have the same problem. Terribly low Basic FPS. And this causes a very choppy and constant freezing experience, hence you can't move very well or not at all.

Umm, what rock are you living under?

Any V1 codebase viewer will eventually break, you do realize this right? All LL has to do it break it server side and then any TPV that uses V1 codebase is screwed. LL is not doing that as of yet, but it WILL happen.

I am actually using the latest Firestorm Beta and my fps kicks. You need to understand graphic settings. Granted I have a pretty decent computer, along with a very generous graphics card, a GTX 650ti. Even on my old graphics card, I was getting on average 30fps with a GT 520 on high settings.

The GTX 650ti has turned that 30 into over 100 on high. I can easily run shadows and ultra and still have no video lag whatsoever.

99% of the video lag that is in SL is on the client side, meaning YOUR COMPUTER. I just love how you blame a viewer, LL, and anything else but your own machine.

  3. I would err on the side of caution and not place any nudity whatsoever in PG/G rated sims.

Some people are ruthless and go around filing abuse reports for every little thing they see wrong. Avoid the frustration from the start and keep the PG/G rated lands the way they were meant to be with no nudity, no cussing, etc.

  4. I have found it best to use the default cache location. It does not conflict with any other viewers. TO get yourself out of a cloud, try a character test. Here is where you find it:

Avatar >> Avatar Health >> Reset Default Male/Female Avatar

Note: Go to a non lag induced sim. Kanin is a good place. Usually pretty quiet. You may need to do the reset more than once to get all your attachments off.

After you have reappeared as a default avatar, simply wear your skin/shape/eyes/hair/huds or put on a saved outfit.

I'd recommend the GTX 660 (not the Ti - it's over $300) for the $200 - $250 range. That would give you plenty of performance for SL. Here's an article about it:

You'd need a 450W or greater power supply for it.

The next step down would be the GTX 650 Ti, which is in the $140 - $170 range at Newegg. The recommended power supply is 400W or greater.

The 660 is supposed to be a good card. The 650 Ti is new & I haven't heard much about it yet, but I did read it's a solid improvement over the 550 Ti.

Thank you Parhelion. I read the article you linked. Also went to newegg and checked on the prices.

    Gigabyte - $230 with a $20 mail in rebake

    MSI - $240 with a $15 mail in

    EVGA - $224 with $10

    ASUS - $234 with $10

I am guessing since these are probably using the same chipsets, that the performance difference, if any, is going to be slim. Save as much as I can deal and go with the Gigabyte?

  6. I am currently shopping for a new GPU. I currently have a Nvidia GT 520 1GB.

Problem I am running into is everytime I enable shadows, my fps goes from an average of 30 down to 7 or under.

Here are my current system specs:

    CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHz (2993.29 MHz)
    Memory: 8173 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601)
    Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
    Graphics Card: GeForce GT 520/PCIe/SSE2

Power supply is 300 watt. I can purchase a new one with a new GPU, so no problems there.

I do not want to go broke on the card as my funds are limited. Max price I am looking at is around $200 - $250 for the GPU.  I am definitely wanting Nvidia because of the OpenGL platform that SL uses.

I have looked at the GTX 550ti. Nice card but also old technology at the same time as the card came out last year. Could someone recommend any of the 600 series cards for me? Best bang for the buck kinda thing. I don't need a professional $700 card nor will I be using SLI in the future. Pros and cons to the card would be helpful as well since reviews on sites sometimes do not give a clear picture. I will probably be buying this off newegg.

Thanks in advance for those who are computer hardware geniuses.

Edit: I am using the Firestorm viewer. Love the way Nirans looks but just too laggy for my system with everything enabled.

  7. Do a character reset on your viewer. You have what sounds like bake fail.

Avatar >> Avatar Health >> Character Test Male/Female

Might have to do that more than once until all your attachments are detached. Then wear a saved outfit, if you have one, or add your skin, shape, hair, eyes, etc back.

  8. Nude photos in your profile/picks is not allowed, that is correct. That account was suspended for CS/ToS violation.

Secondly if the sim that houses your gallery is Moderate/Mature you are ok as long as the art/pictures not of a sexual nature. If they are of a sexual nature, you will need to move said pictures to an adult region as open sexual things are not allowed on Moderate regions or simply remove them from the gallery. The underage kids, 16/17 year olds are locked to PG/G regions so no worry there.

My guess is the G you are seeing is how their preferences are set. G as being able to access G regions only. M being able to access General and Moderate sims. Then you have the A which can access adult with the previous two.

  9. Exactly, within reasons of course.

Though I had a spare box that ran Windows 7 64 bit off a single core Pentium D   @ 2.2Ghz. Talk about a dinosaur!

When my main system took a dump on me a few months ago, I dragged that out and tried to run Firestorm on it. I put up with that disaster for about 30 minutes before I ran and got my current system. Next thing to get upgraded will be a better graphics card. Not that the 520 is bad, I want more power without lagging my system from 50 fps down to under 10 when running shadows, and that is on a quiet sim.

  10. /me takes a step back, trying not to laugh but bursts out laughing hysterically.

JeanneAnne, I am sorry that you feel so "threatened" by someone not allowing you to use their home for your personal needs or their land.

It leads me to ask if you have any manners or common sense whatsoever by the sounds of your paltry "your stuff is mine" rants.

Ban lines and security orbs are greifing? LMFAO! Oh my gawd, this is just making my day. Please keep posting the utter nonsense that you are spilling. I haven't had a laugh like this in awhile.

/me scoots away and adds JeanneAnne to the parcel ban list for his home.

    Have a great day! :mantongue:

  11. I live on a private island. Sure the hell can't pay me to live on the laggy mainland.

What works for you probably won't work for me or for others. I prefer to live on a residential island with no lag that is owned by a wonderful group of people. I sure as hell won't pay LL for a premium membership. It doesn't do me any good. Simply not enough benefits.  Maybe when they bring back some quality control I might reconsider.
