  1. I can not argue with your point, Syo. A true therapist is not a person who's shoulder you can cry on. But I disagree that it could not be offered in SL. Just as people who are attorneys, professors or medical professionals play SL..why couldn't someone who has the qualifications (legitimately) be playing as well? And why couldn't they set up a vitrual office in SL for their services? Seems like a possibility to me...

again..just my two cents and I do wish the OP the best in their search.

  2. First of all, it's very sad that this is happening to you...and for that, I am sorry.

But...what people are forgetting to mention is that a sim owner (in this case, your SL Mom) can boot you from their land for any reason they wish and there's nothing you can do about it. You could have done something to upset her (as Drake mentioned) or she could be tired of you or she's not doing the family thing anymore. Honestly, it doesn't matter.

You're booted. She's not answering you. End Of Story!

Go find another family to get into..there are lots of adoption agencies in SL that you can apply to or put a post in here asking if anyone is interesting in adopting a child in SL. Make sure, though, that you give lots of information about yourself so that you can see if you're going to be a good fit.

Again, I am sorry that this happened to you...but there's nothing you can do about it.

  3. I can't vouch for "legit" or "good", but a quick search of Therapists came up with a few groups and people that you could consider talking to.

And in response to Syo, with all due respect, the anonimity of SL might be just the thing that someone needs to help get their RL problems off their back. I have spent many evenings venting to and being vented to about problems in RL that just talking about them, makes you feel better.

    Good luck in your search...

Yes, but Martian girl's names are so difficult to pronounce....:matte-motes-sunglasses-3:

I wonder if there's a way to contact LL and ask them...or am I wasting my time?

  5. Here's something I've been thinking about for the past few days....

If your account needs to be verified by LL because of whatever (locked out, hacked, forgetting passwords, etc) what information does the Lab ask you when you call or send in a JIRA (or whatever they're calling it nowadays)?

And...how can one see and change that information? A few years ago, LL was asking residents to put in information to allow them to go to adult sims and I'm pretty sure the information they have for me is incorrect.

Just to add that I am not a premium member nor do I have any payment information on file with them already.

    Thanks....

  6. I predict that it will be all-mesh and optimized for VR immersion devices such as Oculus Rift.

That's a given...with all the new technology coming out, eventually I think you'll only be able to use things like Occulus Rift and whatever other kind of VR tech that is available.

    Certainly there will be Voice.

Or something like voice..probably more advanced. It'll sound more like talking on a cell phone than through a microphone in your computer.

There will be LSL (although only for mesh objects).

    See Dres' answer above...

Content that can be transported:  Mesh, Avatars, some Clothes, some scripts.

No. Content will not be transported. It's already been stated that old clothes, hair, objects won't go over because they are too prim heavy. Nothing that you have now, aside from your name and money, will come over with you. We'll all show up naked like the Garden of Eden and have to start all over again.

There will no longer be in-world Building at all.  Rezzing will be a slightly different concept. Not clear if there will be "land", not clear if it will have the same Sim-server-as-place architecture.

I have no idea where you're getting this from. There will have to be inworld building...user created content is what makes SL what it is. Without that, what's the point? It's the whole reason for existance...are you planning on going to a blank world where you can't do anything but stand around, naked mind you, looking stupid???

  7. To the best of my recollection, which might be incorrect, it started a couple of years ago where in a few month period we were swamped with surveys repeatedly..one right after another. It got so bad that SL had to set up a whole new category for surveys (Second Life Education).

Pierre is correct that there were a few threads dedicated to why we don't fill out surveys and why we treat the students so badly...oddly enough, Phil started both of them about a year apart...:matte-motes-sunglasses-3:

This, if you can get through all the pages, will give you some idea of how a lot of people in the forums feel about students who use us to "do their homework".

I would hope that the OP would read this as well. It will give him some annumintion for when he finally decides to put his questions out there for us.

  8. May seem a rather silly answer, but did you try to reset the modem?

Turn off the modem and the router...wait 30 seconds..and then restart them again. Whenever I'm having issues, that's the first thing I try and it usually does the trick.

If that doesn't work, I might suggest the Firestorm Support Group inworld. They're usually pretty good about helping to find solutions to problems.

  9. What I can suggest you NOT do is come on the forums and say "Hi, I'm a student conducting a survey and please fill this out". Most of the forum dwellers will either berate you, say horrible things to you or ignore you completely...myself included.

If you are studying behavior, the best way is to get your avatar out there and exist inworld. Don't be shy...say hello, join some groups, meet people, make friends....

I do like the idea of putting something on your profile that you're a student looking for information, but that could turn people off right away. You need to let them know that you're also interested in meeting people and finding out about SL.

    Good luck

  10. I have no idea how the person got into my account. The only thing I did different from usual was to approve the new ToS through my ipad. (isn't that going to throw everyone into a panic? :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:)

I think it was just a random hit, but I can't be sure. As far as I know, my other 4 accounts in SL are fine.

  11. Greetings friends...

You all (or most at least) know me as a long time user, so I'm not some hysterical newbie. Just wanted to pass around that my account for SL was hacked today. Nothing was stolen but the person sent spam messages from my account to most of the groups that I belong to. It was bad enough the LL had locked my account and made me reset my password.

Keep a heads up on your accounts. Maybe a good idea to change your passwords as well.

    Thanks....

  12. According to Linden Lab, SL is:

The pioneering virtual world that millions of people around the world have enjoyed.

Second Life is the leading 3D virtual world. It's a space where you can be whoever you'd like, build and sell whatever you can imagine, and have fun with others from all over the globe while you explore unique virtual environments, listen to live music performances, play games, shop in the world's largest user-generated virtual goods economy, and much more

    Does that help??? :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:

As just a punter its stopped me having any ideas of going to the gaming region (I dont really mind as it will save me buying lindens to play)

I'm on the same page. I don't think I'll bother going to the skilled gaming regions since I don't have any payment information on file (see, like the 2nd page of this thread) and I'm too cheap to spend my hard earned lindens on silly games of chance. I'll keep it all

*grabs his handfuls of Lindens and goes running off into the night...laughing maniacally*

My state doesn't qualify probably because of the age limit as Darkness and I were discusing. I don't really need to read about all the other states as I only live on one. I'm glad you found the small prints for your state Perrie.

I don't know if that's the issue or not and we'd need a better answer from the Lab. I live in NJ where we have legalized gambling (in Atlantic City and now on line) and the minimum age to gamble is 21. Pennsylvania is the same way (gambling in Philly). It must be something having to do with the state laws..again, I haven't read it so I don't have a legitimate answer, but I don't think it's an age thing.

  15. Ok...Looking at the new policy, I'm slightly confused...or maybe it's just me...

One part states that a skill game "requires or permits the payment of Linden Dollars to play"

and another part of the rule states "“[g]ames in which Second Life residents do not pay to play are not within the scope of this Skill Gaming Policy.”

Now, if a game like Greedy/Greedy permits the payment of Linden Dollars but the owner of the game does not have the players pay, is it or is it not within the scope of the policy?

  16. Don't you think it odd that Ebbe just announced the creation of (for lack of a better term) SL2 and would keep SL1 running as long as it was profitable...then a few days later, LL announces their new Skilled Games Policy???

Hmmm...Run all the Skilled Games out of SL...no longer profitable....easier to pull everyone into SL2???

(I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here..I don't think it's really what they intended, but it's a funny coincidence, isn't it??)

    Hi Tex!

Great first question. You do not need to be a Premium Member to have payment information on file. The Skill Gaming regions will not be restricted to only Premium memberships.

    Thanks!

Thank you for your answer, but that leads me to a follow-up question

I am not a premium member and have never put payment information on file with LL. This means you HAVE to have something on file in order for us to play? And secondly...honestly...how would you know? If we never decide to cash in the Lindens that we win and just spend them inworld (which is why I would assume you'd need payment information) what's the point?

    Thanks again

ETA: I do have to applaud the Lab for having someone here to answer our questions rather than let us argue amongst ourselves as to what we can and can not do. Bravo!

  18. ok...I'll start the ball rolling.

According to Section 2- Gaming Residents:

"In order to enter a Skill Gaming Region, you must establish and maintain a Second Life account with accurate, current and complete information about yourself, including a valid payment method"

So does this mean that this new Skilled Gaming area will be open to Premium Members only and not those of us who have a free account? Seems a bit unfair and, if I may say so, you're cutting out a large portion of the users of Second Life.

    Thank you for you cooperation....

I'm thinking of trying a third party viewer - if I don't like it is it easy enough to go back to the default SL viewer - can you have both installed at the same time and switch between the two when desired?

As stated, it's simple enough to go back to the default viewer, but just so you know, Firestorm allows you to set up their viewer so it looks like the SL viewer. When you fiirst sign on, there's a drop down box on the bottom which will allow you to change the "style" that you're looking at. (not sure if i said that the right way...maybe some can correct my jibberish gibberish ...:matte-motes-sunglasses-3:)

I assume it acts the same way, although I don't have mine set up that way..mine is set up as the old Phoenix viewer.

This is an interesting perspective, and certainly at odds with the perception of most people here.

In your view, is this strategy "working"? Or is it too early to tell yet?

     I think it's a mixed bag...and here's why:

On the positive side, the new platform is supposed to be similar to SL1 (I think). Your textures and lindens are supposed to transfer over as well, which leads me to believe that you'll be able to carry your name and identity over as well. Which will be a big bonus to those of us who've been here for a while.

On the negative side, most of your inventory won't carry..I remember hearing that textures may carry over but due to a lot of items being prim heavy, they all won't go. I believe a lot of the new platform will work with new technology (Occulus Rift, for example) which may leave some older users or those who can't afford that kind of stuff, out. I don't know anything about the viewer technolgoy, but from what I understand you will only be able to use the official SL viewer and not Third Party, like Firestorm or Singularity.

Another concern is this....SL has been around for 11 years. That's 11 years of fantastic builders and designers creating the landscape inworld. They've been able to make everything: Dance Clubs, Momunments, Museums and entire cities. I am under the impression (and correct me if I'm wrong) that all those things will have to be recreated. Can you imagine having to build Bay City or Crack Den (as examples) all over again. Work that hundreds of builders, some who aren't even with us anymore, created.....now gone...lost forever.

It's not going to be the same, I don't think. I understand why they're doing it: you have to change..you have to go with new technology..but I don't have to like it.

As I said, I'll probably be the last one out...so I'll hit the lights before I go. :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:

Edited to correct basic gramatical errors...because I think faster than I type....

  21. I've had trouble with voice for some time and generally hate using it because I get frustrated.

Which viewer are you using? That might help to determine your problem. If you're using Firestorm, join the Firestorm support group and ask them if they've heard of your issue.

What I tend to do is go into Voice Settings, then the button on the bottom (whatever that's called. Sorry not on my system at the moment). I usually play with that a few times and EVENTUALLY it works, but takes a while.

    Good luck

  22. Phil and Qie (since I don't want to respond to both seperately)

Ebbe may have wished to make the announcement, but it didn't seem as though it was planned. If you watch the youtube video, I don't even think they knew he was there. He might have wanted to do it, but I think he other plans on HOW he wanted it done...thus  surreptitiously. That's just my opinion though....

    Drake...

No..gotta turn off the lights. The last electric bill is gonna be a killer....:matte-motes-sunglasses-3:

  23. Phil Deakins wrote:

I agree that it would have been much better if there'd been a blog about it, or something like that. My point was that it can't be called a leak when it was the CEO himself who stated it, and yet so many people have wrongly called a leak. Leaks are the divulging of information against the boss's/company's wishes.

Well it's a "leak" because it was done in a private meeting between third party developers and LL employees. He didn't announce it to the general public (and I'm still not sure they have).

Part of the definition is to "to give out (information) surreptitiously". That's where the idea is coming from. But I think we're splitting hares here, Phil. Bigger problem concern is the new platform and how it's going to effect us in the next few years.

And as I said before, at some point I won't be able to run SL anymore....so I'll just gather my stuff, turn out the lights and go one with my RL life. :matte-motes-frown:

  24. Please forgive me if I'm wrong on this, but I think what Kayleigh meant by leaked is the that the news did not come in an official SL press release. The way residents and third party developers found out is from that meeting where Ebbe "happened to mention" there was a new platform coming out.

It probably wouldn't have caused less outrage, but might have been better (IMHO) if an official press release was put out stating that LL is developing a new platform that will co-exist alongside SL..blah blah blah. Even the third party developers, Jessica especially, had no idea this was coming and felt blindsided. That's why all these forum posts are out there and why some in the community were panicing as to the future of our world.
