Is it just me or is anyone else a bit worried about the 21st? I know the world is not likely to end, but unfortunately not every person on the planets agrees with me and I worry that one or more of the nut jobs out there might do something catastrophic.

I wouldn't worry about it. Harold Camping and his lunatic fringe made more of a hype than this whole Mayan thing. I don't see the same kind of widespread loonisy (ugh..my spelling is horrible) that we had then.

If it is the end, just go get a cup of coffee and watch the world go by..ain't nothin' you can do about it anyway...:matte-motes-sunglasses-1:

Hey, i'm looking for data for my college paper, so if anyone could be so kind as to comment with answers to the following questions it would make my life much easier.

    1. What gender is your character?

    2. Do you feel the second life community is sexist? Why or why not?

    3. As a male/female in second life, do you feel at all limited by your gender? Is there anything you can/can't do?

    4. Do you think the real outside world would be more or less sexist then in second life? Why?

Thank you SO MUCH, i really appreciate it!

Nice that you managed to put this in twice, so I need to repeat my answer...

I will answer your questions AGAIN, but my suggestion to you (if you have not already done so) is to create two characters..a male and female...don't make them anything special..but better looking than newbies or you'll get no response. Go to a sim as a male..then go to the same sim as a female. See what the people's reactions to you are. It's SO much better when you are creating a paper to experience it for yourself...rather than asking us for help.

    Now..that being said:

    1. Male (but have played Females too)

    2. have no idea. Never experienced any

    3. As a female...I feel imited that I can't pee standing up...

    4. You can do things in SL that you can't do in RL..like be sexiest. I've never experienced any,as I said.

  4. I'm not sure how to contact them, but how about putting up a sign with a teleport pad in the old location so that people who wind up there will have the correct place to go? Then, ask them to bookmark the new location. At least it's a temporary solution until someone can fix your problem....

Hello my name is BunnyHunni Resident. I like to go to events (non-adult), live music, and talk. I like anime, horror, manga, and movies. I use voice and am female.

If you want to be friends, just add me. I need some great events to go too.

    Welcome to SL, Bunny

One of the great ways to meet people is to look through the groups and find some that contain your interests..there are lots of live music venues out there and I'm sure groups on movies and such. When you search, look for a group that has these and join. Then shoot an IM to the moderator or send a group message. I've met lots of people in this way...some of them even hang on for a while...:matte-motes-sunglasses-1:

    Good luck!!

Hey there, my name is Jagdish. Making another one of these threads to try and meet new people. I can't seem to find lasting friends in-world and I would really like to have people to hang with and talk to on the regular.

    Come talk to me like....nao!

Welcome to SL. I don't know if anyone suggested it but there are lots of ways to meet people here inworld. One way I always recommend is to check the groups. What are you interested in? There should be a group out there to whet your appetite. When you're in...contact the moderator or send a group IM. There should be some people in there willing to chat and share interests with you. Don't be shy..just jump right in (be polite, of course) and just do it!:matte-motes-sunglasses-1:

    Good luck

  8. With all the advice about new viewers, thought I'd start with Firestorm. The issue that I'm having is with chat. When I go into the IMs, it shows previous conversations. I would like those not to show when I log in. Does anyone know how to fix that?

    Thanks

  9. Thanks Pussycat...

Based on your statement, I'm trying Firestorm. And although it's taking a bit of getting used to...considering it and Phoenix are made by the same company, I'm likin' it!

    Thanks for the advise.

    Hi friends,

I am really new to SL so excuse any newbie-ness!  I am consistently amazed by the beautiful landscapes I come across in my flights, and would like to hear your personal thoughts on what these spaces mean to you--in terms of happiness, art, peace, fun, etc.

Basically, I'm interested in learning about your most favorite place(s) in Second Life. If you're up for a short interview, please let me know!

    Thank you.

I wouldn't say "interview" right now. With the amount of students asking residents for their opinions for their term papers, it will turn people off....

How has SL affected your life?

Has it been for the better or for the worse?

Have you made friends in SL while losing friends in 'the real world'?

We tell each other our stories here and try to offer advice
    :)

Sorry to be a pain in the a** but this is the third student working on a paper that's contacted us in the past few days. Would really be nice if you all got together, set up a website and pulled your answers from there...

And I apologize for being snippy..just tired of answering these questions.

OK..now that I've had a chance to calm down and breathe....

SL has affected my life by being able to play out senerios and RP that I could never do in SL.

I believe it has been for the better, as it gets fantasies out in the "open" without any kind of RL reprecussions. I have also made a lot of friends here that I keep in touch with through email/FB.

Haven't lost any real friends. I am not on constantly..only in the evenings. I still communicate and have wonderful relationships with my wife and son.

Sorry about before and I hope that helps.

Im new to sl and its kinda boring with out friends

I tend to get along with Punk people goth people rocker people

I get along with girls more

but Guy or Girl is fine to me.

    Hi there...welcome to SL

My suggestion to you would be to look into the groups inworld. Since you mentioned Punk and Goth, look for groups that have that in their description. I'm sure you can find tons of people to hang out with.

    Good luck

SL hails itself as a social media networking kind of place - i guess not much different to say facebook twitter or the like cept its a little more indepth than just text on a screen ... so why can we not have a search for friends by email so we can get together within SL -> just like facebook can search for your friends by email makes things so much faster and easier

Mostly because people want their privacy. I don't give out my email address to anyone except my close SL friends..don't need someone I just met stalking me to find out my personal information...or visa versa.

    Wow, thank you everyone!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that has trouble at first.

    You're all loads of help.

I'm going to try the Phoenix viewer
    :)

Good idea. I like Phoenix...much better than the SL viewer. Haven't used Firestorm though.
