If your viewer is Firestorm/Phoenix, try Area Search tool to find it. I got a transparent object once, it should be attached to AVI, but I rezzed it by accident. Of course I can not find it as it is transparent. What I did was, used Area Search and CTL+ALT+T to make transparent object visible and successfully returend it into my inventory.

Did you check "Lost And Found" folder in your inventory? It might already has been auto-returned or manually-returned by land owner.
