I found that old footage about a proposal to add animated texture (gif?) feature for particles. A Jira was proposed about it and it's seem to has been release but I'm not sure... Is there anyone knows more about that feature and if there is an actual possible way to use or create the effect of animated texture or gif in a llParticleSystem() ?

Note: I know llSetTextureAnim() but I don't think is possible to mix those, right ?

Nope, such a feature has not been released nor do I see linden labs releasing something like this, only way for particles to change, is by uploading the other frames of the gif as separate textures then inputting multiple uuid's and have the script alternate between them (which could cause lag). Also, this topic doesn't belong in "LSL library"

  2. I've made a single prim overfiller before, you don't need to technically sit on it. just have it selected in the build menu. (well maybe not single prim but a mere 2 - 10 linked together can overfill a sim beyond the temp rez too)

Lots of talk here about lag caused by 1024x1024 textures. Why couldn't the viewer have a setting to limit the maximum texture size? That would be communicated back to the asset servers so they send only as much texture data as selected. Wouldn't that be an effective tool to manage limited GPU memory and asset server bandwidth?

That kinda already exists... it's called viewer texture memory buffer in firestorm (or the graphics > rendering > max texture quality) and scene / system memory in black dragon viewer

I still don't agree. While I think it would be good to give people the ability to adjust the resolution used in mirror reflections, I believe most people would be satisfied with a resolution at or even lower than the resolution used in water reflections. Remember, we're talking SL here, not a Pixar production. A feature doesn't need to be movie quality to be an effective and engaging addition.

the highest water reflection resolution based on black dragon viewer's settings is 2048, 768 on "normal" which is supposedly the LL viewer's ultra.

the water resolution based on black dragon viewer's settings are as followed (from lowest to highest): 256,512,768,1024,1536,2048 BUT for any other viewer I'd imagined it be something like 128,256,512,768,1024 (anything around 128-256 kinda looks pixelly)

@IvanBenjammin anything higher than 2048 would be pointless in terms of SL graphics.

i was actually interested in water reflection.how is it made and Penny  ty for your answer but all pages that i read either on sl community or blogs were explaining how they can cause lag or how it was a firestorm project dropped cus of lag.i just googled "second life mirrors" and lag was the major argument on most pages.

chances are it was related to viewer-side lag, if they had settings for how many mirrors you can handle (for example some may only be able to handle max of let's say: 3 while someone on a stronger computer could probably handle a max of maybe 10) they could probably get mirrors working in SL as an official feature. otherwise it would just be that infinity effect you can get in any other game if you fell out of the map. (which I could have reproduced with shiny objects in the past)

Mirrors are totally possible without creating excessive amounts of lag.* In fact, years ago SL did briefly have working mirrors.

I'm not certain if LL has ever stated mirrors were impossible due to performance reasons, or if this is an explanation residents came up with to explain why LL hasn't done it. If performance is a concern for LL I can think of a dozen things they could have been doing for years now that would have greatly improved performance for everyone, but they haven't done any of those things.

*If LL added a mirrors feature and left it open so someone could make an entire build made out of mirrors, or an avatar attachment with a couple hundred mirrors, that would certainly cause performance issues, but there's also definitely ways to prevent that sort of abuse of a feature, like giving mirrors a higher LI cost to discourage people from rezzing to many, and giving mirrors a super high draw weight cost, making them prohibitive for avatars.

Wanna know what grinds my gears? is that there has been a jira opened on this subject since 2014 xD https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/STORM-2055?

  7. the vehicle sandboxes i've been to are mainly for aircraft and boats and when there is a place for driving, it's mostly on an island surrounded by water.

unsightly clutter? I'm sorry I still don't follow... MG still had more sims than TG, sorry... still DOES. infact i've seen most sims that were apart of the TG get placed over to the MG mainland (example: Bay City)

  8. Unfortunately, I don't understand anything that I like about SL, however I can safely say there was 3 types of games that I went by, imvu > THERE > secondlife, from just sitting in a 3D room to roaming a planet sized world to customization, but if i were to judge by admin/moderator doing their jobs of banning trolls or griefers or whatever... secondlife would be at the bottom of my list. I remember back around 2007 - 2009 crossing a border with a vehicle wasn't that laggy...now a days I am always clinching my butt when flying a helicopter across a border (which all it does now is a fricking barrel roll)

  9. "Can you point out to me a Virtual World where they aren't problematic?  " There.com used to be in shape of a round planet with no border crossing and had an outerspace atmosphere believe it or not. and I am originally from the teen grid where the sandboxes had object entry enabled in the past. the sandboxes with TG in the name are the ones I'm talking about.

  10. either way, they should just do their jobs instead of being lazy about griefers and changing sandbox settings, I used to be able to cross sims with following objects all the time, given they have the physics watch scripts Also, driverless vehicles? really? I can end up crashing while trying to cross a border and THEN the vehicle becomes driverless... so they didnt solve anything.

  11. RANDOM AND OFF-TOPIC PICTURE POSTING WILL BE REPORTED.

Anyone else remember the days when crossing a sim border with something with a follower script would work without the "can't move object" idiocy? Linden Labs... THIS IS WHY I DON'T THINK YOU SHOULD EVEN BOTHER MAKING A SECOND LIFE 2 OR WHATEVER THE HELL YOU ARE WORKING ON -----> ss+(2014-11-19+at+10.24.19).jpg

And that, is only 1 picture of what I find screwed up about secondlife... I could easily tell you that a window within a window within a tab is NOT the intelligent way to make a chat bar.... it only adds to the list of "**bleep** that doesn't need to be blocking my screen"... I know you MAY HAVE thought "If we turn off object entry, maybe people will stop griefing sandboxes with physical spam" HOWEVER, you are sadly mistaken... and as far as I am aware, MOST if not ALL of the incident reports you get, only get up to a 14 day suspension or just a warning... since 2007...which is pathetic

  12. Unfortunately, no one with common sense wants to go through all that bullcrap trouble to fix the ui back to normal... linden labs shouldn't ever have messed with it in the first place... totally worthless to make the chat bar into a window within a window within a **bleep**ing tab, no sense

  13. I, Can NOT cringe enough.... To how STUPID someone could be as To make the local chat be a window within a window within a tab... Who is the screwed up idiot Who thought about that?... On a common sense level that is possibly the most idiotic thing To ever make... And To top it all off, it doesn't have an option To change it back... Good going linden labs... =_=

  14. I don't mean a way for objects to interact with wind, I meant something that can produce it. Secondly I did not say anything about "rigged" mesh. I created a mesh piece that I tried using for a riot shield, but putting a script in it made me think that mesh is just another thing that will only be centered to your avatar rather than the actual location of where it's at. I mean I can see why mesh is around... to only make up for sculpts' common "bounding box" effect... Surprised that your post was less rude than the other people who posted here. :\ but still, it's not "gripes" it's common knowledge that could help improve the way that people build.

  15. Ok we got sculpts and we got meshs... but i don't like sculpts for their normal square shaped bound... :\ and as for meshs, i don't like them because you can put scripts in them and scripts that couldn't be used for attachments can be used in meshs, but thats not why i hate them... it's that meshs virtually are dead on center to your avatar rather than where they visually are... How about linden labs create something awesome for once, like a mirror reflective feature in the build menu. Or a wind feature in the build menu, im sure that there wouldn't be TOO many, if not no way that anyone could abuse/grief that up into something... could help users make like indoor fans or something... I mean I could probably understand why there wouldn't be no liquid like features....

(On a side note, if anyone wants to comment... keep it short and simple, my reading level isn't too high :\ any negative feedback wouldn't be worth reading and by negative feedback, i mean as if it looks like your in a pissy mood)
