Thanks Whirlz. It may be months before I have a few spare bucks to buy 500Ls with again. I was able to do so on the website just not through the FS 5.1.7.

OMFG I was trying to get the popup and it went through and now I"ve spent money I don't freak ing have. Great just *****ing great now I get to go hungry for a *****ing week

ETA; Sorry. Not your fault. It was a popup that said LL needed more info and provided a link to the SL FAQs. Which were of no use whatsoever. Nothing to indicate I was supposed to agree to Tilia's ToS. I shouldn't have to since I have never withdrawn funds and don't intend to.

I don't have the LL viewer installed mostly because I so rarely have any problems and never use it other than for troubleshooting.

Here's to hoping it was just a one time glitch. And possible due to the fact that we changed ISPs less than a month ago so my IP was different but that should not have caused the popup. It never has before when we changed ISP like last year.

Please file a ticket with support - they may be able to look into the unintentional purchase for you.

    Hello all,

I am surprised to think that a simple (unedited) snapshot could cause so much conversation - but happy to see at least that notice was taken! I do want to take a minute to clarify a few things related to this.

Part of my job is to curate, uplift and highlight user generated content in Second Life. One, because we have such a creative and incredible community, from fashion designers, event organizers, charity events and fundraisers, Region builders, musicians, artists, and so much more. Two, it helps show off how incredible Second Life and the community are.

Sharing new and different types of content on all our social media ( including the community platform that houses these forums and the blog) has always been something I've wanted to do. I started the Pic of the Day program about 7 years ago and over the years we've featured hundreds of user-created pictures with credits that showcase the amazing creativity from our community.

It is no secret that I love to shop, and that I enjoy exploring the Grid, just as most of you do. I was a Resident before I was a Linden, and now I am both. It is a rare position to be in, and an interesting balance of perspectives. My goal in doing content like this is to show Second Life off and to have some fun while doing so. People always ask for credits, and I profoundly believe in crediting creators as much as possible, when possible.

I do personally have love for the creators and items featured in the post, but that does not mean that I do not also have love for creators and items that are not featured here. Ultimately, I hope to showcase a lot more of the great things that are made here in Second Life via different types of content - both user-created and Linden-created!

    catch you inworld!

    ~Xiola

P.S. On a related note, stay tuned for news about a new free community initiative that will soon help drive traffic to and support many of our community bloggers.

    Like 4 years in total... 2006 - 2009 and then 2017 - ?

A lot changed in between! But it still has that intoxicating "possibility" that is always there... just around the corner. That's why it is so addictive.

I think a lot of us have taken a break here and there, but you're right - it evolves. Some things remain the same, but lots changes and I know the product team has a lot of projects like EEP! and bakes on mesh to keep pushing things forward. I am especially impressed still by Bento and how so many creators adopted that to make SL an even more beautiful place to spend time!

  4. Hello Residents!

For those of you who missed it - there is as pretty cool updated infograph that we shared yesterday as part of our look back at the last 15 years in Second Life.

It got me thinking about the time I have spent inworld - both prior to my working at Linden Lab, and my time here. My question to you is - how many of the last 15 years have you been part of the Second Life community?

For me - as Resident it has been almost 12 years and coming up on 7 as a Linden!

  6. We wrote a little bit about this on the Second Life blog here. We have and will continue to invest in Second Life for many years to come. Sansar is not meant to replace SL, nor is it a platform anyone needs to decide if they want to 'transfer over' to. The two platforms will run in parallel and the team working on SL has some exciting things planned in the near and long term for way to make SL even better.

  7. This is all very helpful feedback. I will be honest - running a shopping event is no easy feat. I certainly have even more respect for those who do them on a more frequent basis. Coordination alone is a big time commitment! I can only aspire to one day put one of these together as well as some of those who have much more experience doing so than I. But I always believe Residents Do it Best. Even though I have been both a Resident and a Linden, I look to our communities to set the bar and strive towards that. So thank you to all the event coordinators, planners, and Merchants who do this on the regular at 100% plus. You rock! \m/

My philosophy for this event was to make it as incredible for our Residents as possible. Balancing that with making it easy on Merchants during one of many times in the year where the number of events is exceptional. I wanted to provide great stuff. Quality is a big one, of course! Diversity of categories is another (hair, clothing, male stuff, female stuff, furniture and decor, etc) and well known Merchants is a great asset to have to get more traffic and promotion. My hope is that if we can continue to grow the size of these events, when we have them, we can accommodate even more tastes across many more Merchants - both new and familiar.

As this event was informed  by the feedback I received on the last one, so will too our next event be informed by this feedback. Thanks, all for just  being around so I even have such an opportunity to organize something like this. This community is such an incredible, resilient, creative, and fun community. I look forward to everything yet to come!

I made it over to one sim last night, Halycon, which was the only one available due to traffic. The build was vast and impressive and a bit classier than most Linden builds. I agree it was easy to get around and not get lost. As far as I can tell, not all participants offered gifts. I even turned on area search when I couldn't find them :D, but I did find a few very nice things.

It is pretty typical for event participants to "overlook" the rules in a venue. Apparently they all got there on time for the opening -- or perhaps some folks on the waiting list zipped in, I know not. Anyway it looks like a hit and that's good.  It is questionable how much SHOPPING is actually taking place, but there is that brand recognition thing and that is always good.

Everyone should have both a gift and discounted items. It may be a bit tough to spot them all ( I know it was for me when I was checking), but should all be out. Next time, we'll make an easy to spot object for them all to put their gifts in, making it easier for shoppers. I've heard good things about the amount of shopping as well. Hoping to do it even bigger next year!

You mean they all offer free gifts and discounts voluntarily? I'm inclined not to believe that. I'm inclined to think that they had to do it to get in the show. I can be corrected, of course.

They were asked up front if they would be willing to provide a gift and discounted items, as this was part of the event plan from the start - so yes, they did volunteer to meet those terms (provide a gift and offer some items at a discount) when they applied to participate. We wanted to make this a successful event for the Merchants as well as a rewarding one for Residents. Second Life doesn't turn 14 every day!

I don't have any pictures yet but I managed to snag the gifts and several demos. I was having some issues with stuff not showing up in my inventory until I relogged so I didn't want to risk any purchases but I will be back! LMs made in the stores will take you straight to that store so you don't have to wander around looking for it from a central point.

It's a very nice mall type build with a variety of shops and I found it easy to navigate. Some stores have gotten rather creative with the booths. The event is running until the 26th of this month so definitely time to check it out.

Glad you like the build! I imagine some of the inventory issues had to do with the amount of people in the Regions, but we did make some changes from our last event to make shopping and navigating easier. Really nice to read that it was easy for you to find your way around! I just posted a blog that contains a link to all three Regions in the Destination Guide, as well as a list of all participating Merchants. Thanks to them for providing gifts, discounted items, and beautiful set ups!

Have the stores selected already been contacted by chance?  And I'm curious how LL chooses the stores that participate.  My friends and I have noticed usually it's all big name or well known brands, was wondering if smaller, newer businesses would ever be selected as well?

Hi Hailee - Yes, stores for this event have been contacted and are being finalized. Like any inworld shopping event, we open up submissions to all, then narrow down the list based on several criteria. Once we have that list narrowed down, we have to narrow it down even further to the number of available slots in the event. This upcoming event will be our biggest so far - covering three regions with a total of 60 Merchants ( old, new, known, and up and coming alike). As we do more of these, my hope is to continue to change and improve them to make them even bigger in the future.

  12. Yes, in addition to the community driven celebrations, Linden Lab is planning a few events ( details forthcoming) that include a 3 region shopping event with gifts, the third annual Music Fest, two inworld costume contest parties, and some other goodies that are still secret! Some of our events will be happening at the regions on the map above, but the shopping event will be separate to optimize the number of shoppers without slowing things down at the community celebrations :)

I am firming up details for the shopping event and we will have a list of the participating brands soon, as well as an upcoming inworld music showcase for auditions for Music Fest.

    Very excited for SL14B!

  13. Hi Qie,

I checked with the team for some clarification on this. As you mentioned, the morphs are part of the Premium Membership - but do require a re-subscription from time to time - like all voice morphs do. Premium members can take advantage of the perk by going to the Premium Perk - Voice Morphing Region (only Premium Members an access this region) when they expire and re-subscribing there.

It sounds like that may not be clear from the notification you received   - but if you wanted to use those morphs, you'd be able to re-sub at that Premium Perk region.

  14. We’ve been having a lot of fun with no end in sight to the good times - but you can’t turn 12 without a little pride and reflection. Second Life has been going strong for a dozen wonderful years and there’s a ton of things happening to celebrate. You’ll see more to come in the Featured News Blog - but we wanted to stop and ask - “What is the meaning of Second Life?” To you - that is! This question may sound daunting - but the truth is, tapping into what makes “SL” so special to us as individuals and communities is a really amazing exercise in retrospection and self-discovery. This is your world - so what does it mean to you?

You can read more about this project on our official blog, and share your stories here in this forum thread!

I will kick things off with my own What Second Life Means to me video:
