Buckaroo Said: "If you're running a Virus Scanner, make sure you exclude the Second Life Cache folder from scanning."
Sounds like good enough advice...how would I do that? (running symantec if that matters)

Hello All,
My current notebook was bought at a time when I had no need of anything special for graphics. Now that I am spending time in SL I think I need something better. (Okay, I know I need something better.)
From other threads I've learned that I should avoid radeon and get something with an nvidia graphics card.
Most of the notebooks that I am looking at are using an nvidia GT540M. I want to run SL on "high" with a reasonable framerate---will this level of graphics card make me happy or should I save up a bit longer for something better?

Nice info quess.
I was looking at an HP with the HD 6770M graphics card--was so disappointed when I started reading this thread. Now, if I do purchase one of these, I'll be able to get it working.

Original: I want to hold one or two class meetings in SL. Is there a public place or a place where I could rent a room?
Additional: I think I have a couple of good answers to work with despite the general lack of detail in my original question. I'm going to add a bit more detail in case someone wants to add more detail or someone reads the replies.
I am planning two session of about 1.5 hours each. The first session will have about 10 folks, the second will have 21.
I am working with college students. I don't need absolute privacy, but more than a few intrusions would be too distracting.
The class is intended to be discussion format and the reason for SL is to give the students an opportunity to experience a virtual environment.
Thanks for the good info.

Perhaps a bit more info?
I plan to purchase something with an i5 or i7 CPU.
My current laptop uses an intel t4300 chip with no real graphics to speak of. I am used to ~10 fps (or less) right now so 20 - 25 fps would be a huge improvement. Ultra graphics is pretty, but I only need high.
Will the the GT 540M card get me where I want to be?
