What the original poster asked for. It's at NTBI, just as an urban background.

Vehicles are started from starting markers every few seconds. They zip down the road, and disappear at the end of their straight run. Each vehicle has a unique sound. They can push avatars, although it's not intended that anyone climb up here.

NTBI also has a train. There's a train track, and, occasionally, a train goes by. A long train, far longer than a sim. Comes out of a tunnel at one end of the sim, and disappears into a tunnel at the other end. There are freight trains of different types, and, rarely, a passenger train. You might have to wait an hour for the next train.

All this is probably keyframe animation, which is the most reliable way to get steady, smooth motion in SL.

    This is exactly the idea!

I saw something similar on a “Drune” bladerunner build (a train and some cars). What does NTBI stand for?

  2. I’ve been trying to make what I thought would be a very simple script, but once again my brains have been addled by LsL.

The thought was to have an invisible phantom prim containing 5 or 6 objects (cars of varying styles), which would select a car at random from its inventory every X number of seconds (randomized slightly as well to add variety to the traffic pattern) - and rez that car in at its location.

The cars themselves would contain a script that turns them physical when rezzed in, wait a fraction of a second, and then propel the car forward at a quick speed (like a car driving down a highway) for Y number of meters. When it reaches that distance, the car dies / de-rezzes. I figured the car would basically be like a bullet - and the invisible prim would be like the gun.

I also wanted the cars to “bump” out of the way, any avatars that step in front of it - without impeding the velocity of the car at all. But that seems even MORE impossible to manage haha. 🤦‍♂️

It all sounded so easy in theory but every time I try to edit an existing gun/projectile script, I screw it up.

I’m not asking for a completed script here (unless someone’s feeling so inclined) - I’ll post in the help wanted section if I can’t get this soon. But I just wanted you gurus opinions on if I’m even on the right track. Are cars like bullets?
There would also obviously be multiple phantom rezzers shooting these cars back and forth like a highway or train way or whatever. I’m assuming they’ll play nice together but do you think I have to link them all somehow and differentiate them so there’s no chance the scripts in Rezzer A mess with the scripts in Rezzer B ?

Sorry for the wall of text. I’m frustrated, a little grumpy, and contemplating a bon fire made of my scripting books.

  3. It’s wild isn’t it? I am the exact opposite of you in that I love the intricacies of English and Latin-based languages (I can’t grasp the rest haha). Poetry, Literature and Art always came naturally to me but Math, Science and Tech don’t They scare and confuse me in the best way. haha. (Like how the bleep does a phone even work??? I know the theory of it, but how are sound waves changed in to digital signals, beamed up to space through thin air and then beamed BACK down to the person I’m talking to, and converted back in to sound waves that their brain can understand, in the same order, tone and cadence that I said it?! Magical wizardry!!!)

I look at LSL, Python. HTML, and all that coding in the same wildly lost way.

PS about magical phone waves: How is it that MY magic digitized voice info doesn’t get all tangled up with the hundreds of thousands of other magical digitized voices getting blasted around the airwaves at the exact same time.

    This is why I 💨 🌴

  4. I'm just back here to reiterate how awesome and helpful programs like script generators are for people who - like me - can't grasp the language regardless of time spent studying.
I've put in years and years of actual and dedicated study to try and learn LSL...and I can barely make a prim move and die. People who are gifted with the ability to learn a new language (coding IS a language) often forget that other people may not have that same ability. Sometimes there are skills that never develop regardless of the effort put it.

Code generators help those of us who are scriptually challenged (lol) to realize some of our great ideas. It may not be pretty, but it gets the general idea out there and then we can approach gifted scripters like those that haunt these sacred forums - with a better idea of what we're trying to do.

Please keep it up! ConWylie - I use your generator ALL the time.
Im using it right this very moment actually, to try and create a road-traffic script for my little city. It helps!

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

  5. Thank you 🙏

That was a thorough and well thought out answer. I was afraid of that, but wanted to be sure I wasn’t missing something vital. It would be so great to be able to have some decent animated images but I can definitely see why it’s not possible. *cries in a corner*

  6. Hello fellow Residents:

I already know how to create animated textures from a GIF but I’ve never been able to create one that looks clear or HD. They’re always blurry and grainy.

Does anyone have a way to create higher quality animated surfaces?

(I’ve used Gif2Ani and the Outworldz script)

  7. I hope you were able to find someone! That was very short notice :S

what kind of ceremony are they having?

are they wanting voice or just text?

    any custom interactions or vows?

I officiate alternative weddings / handfastings etc in RL from time to time but typically need quite a bit more notice to put something meaningful together.
