  1. Cypris Chat What educational organization do you represent? I am an adjunct English professor at a few universities in Japan. How do you use SL in your educational endeavors? Originally I thought this environment would be good for my students to be able to practice speaking in English with people from around the world. Since their motivation was focused more on their phones than in playing in a virtual world, I decided to turn it into a research project. Over the years I have recorded dozens of successful activities and learning experiences. For me personally it also helped me to become a better teacher by giving me the opportunity to teach outside of Japan as well as to try new materials. Most importantly, what positive results have you seen from using SL? In 2008, I started a group in SL called Cypris Chat (Wellston region.) It’s an English learning community with hundreds of members coming and going from all over the world. Over the years we have seen total beginners become fluent English speakers simply by being active in our free community. It has been amazing to observe. We have also heard countless compliments and even many who say that this experience has changed their lives.
  2. I'm normal. At least I think I am. haha. Probably because you have to log in to JIRA to vote. I guess it's not so user friendly. But thanks so much for the reply. ;-)
  3. I have a web page with a Flash form on it showing on a prim (MOAP - Media On A Prim). When I try to type !"#$%&'() I get ^@#$^etc. instead. Do you have the same problem? Here is a page with a form on it. http://www.macromediahelp.com/flash/php_flash_contact_form/ Is your keyboard layout QWERTY or ASERTY? Can you type in Japanese, Chinese, or Korean? This function is important for me because I use a HUD inworld that requires punctuation. I have no trouble when accessing a web page with standard html input fields through MOAP. I have also submitted a bug report on the Second Life JIRA https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-3780 Please vote for it if you think it is important. Many schools and businesses around the world create Flash simulation and quizzing environemnts. I think this function is important.

  5. Have you tried searching for language schools? There are quite a few "schools." I won't list them here beause I cannot vouch for their credibility. I CAN say the best way to find a school is to ask people inworld. I suggest going to free learning sims like Cypris Chat http://cyprischat.org or Virtlantis and talking with people in those groups. They can tell you which schools are good and which schools to avoid. PS: Yes. I'm the founder of Cypris Chat.
  6. Thank you Oskar and others for replying and giving us all a better understanding of how restarts are being handled. It was really nice to hear this matter is of concern, beingst most of Asia COULD be affected by it if were were part of the 'peak' time. Knowing that the restart times will happen at a certain...and I reiterate...certain time, really helps. If these times occur regularly then we can plan accordingly. It would be even better if those times could be more precise rather than "starting at 5am" and then 90 minutes later the sim is restarted. To me that means we are down for about 2 hours. Nothing can be planned during that time. I do realize it is difficult to execute server batch restarts. As for moving our sim to a beta server. $300 dollars a month to host a not-for-profit community is extremely steep. Even $125 a month is difficult for a community under 1,000 people. We're growing and truly hope to be able to afford an island sim, but that just isn't possible at the moment for us. Nice to know the info though, thanks. May I suggest one idea that could help, if sims were offered an option int he region/estate settings to choose their peak usage time, then the server restart team could query blocks of servers according to the their average peak times. For example, In the Estae/Regions setting I would choose "Japan" from a drop down under Peak Usage Timezone. Does this make sense? Thanks for the reponses and all the best. Time to go change our calendar. :-)
  7. There have been restarts happening from 5AM every Tuesday. This is an inconvenient time for people in Asia/Oceania. It is around 9pm in this time zone. Tuesdays are also a popular day for classes. Many Tuesdays we have had to cancel classes with 20 avatars in attendance. Is it possible to do restarts regularly, I mean at a specific time every week, say from 8am SLT? This would be 12AM in Japan, Korea, and a large part of China, Australia, and New Zealand. It would be nice if we could plan around server restarts.
  8. Hi Yevad. You can make a list of items you see on Xstreet that you wish to buy but might not have any money to buy them. If someone wants to be so kind and buy it for you, like for your birthday or something, then they can see your list and buy you a gift. It can also be used as a kind of reminder list of things you saw late one night but know you'll forget about the next day. You can go back to the list to remind you. As for the question marking thing...well...yeah...that's a bit confusing since I post a question I expect it to be answered. Why do I need to let everyone know it's a question? haha. And Peru...google it. haha. PM
