I keep crashing. Can anyone look at my specs (listed) and see anything wrong?

I play other game titles on high settings but for some reason SL is crashing.  I even cleared cache, reinstalled sl as suggested and it's still running a bit slow and crashing intermitently.  I really enjoy SL and would be most grateful of any advice / help.

Here's my computer settings:

Manufacturer:  Alienware

Model:  Alienware Aurora

Processor: Intel(R)Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz

Installed memory (RAM): 12.0GB

System type: 64-bit Operating System

Graphics Card(s): Dual ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series (they are running crossfire) (latest drivers installed 8/17/11 version)

Any insight?  I hope I can run sl...:(

p.s. could my display resolution have impact?  I am running a 2048 x 1152 screen resolution.

I haven't figured it out yet either. similar problems.  I hope someone can help.

I found something that helped a little:

I went into my Graphics > Hardware Settings > and I turned Enable VBO to off and Filtering to off.  That helped a little bit.  I crashed less, but still crashed a few times.

Any computer gurus out there that can help us?

Looking at your specs it seems over the top even for SL so it should be no problem, untill i read 'Crossfire'...

I don't want to spoil your fun, but Crossfire ( a pair of AMD graphics cards ) usually has always been a real pain with SL; it can't handle them well. Can you shut down one of the pair? It should be solved then.

Best of luck.

Hi Linda,

I tried turning crossfire off and sl ran slower that it was without in on.  It didn't fix the problem unfortunately:(  Could it be something else?

Hi Diana, I would try that too, though it seems the other viewers are having some issues with mesh ::shucks::

Thanks both for the kind replies.  Could it be because of my os?  win 64 bit version?

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks Tsukkei for sharing that info.  I am trying your suggestions.

So far, I rolled back all the way back to 9/10 drivers and no luck.

I also tried setting SL compatibility to Windows Vista, and XP no luck.

A related question.  On the statistics meter, what is a good bandwidtth number  to see on average?

I have a cable modem but it's speed does not match up with the numbers inside SL.
