Keoki Tucker Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Wondered if anyone had feedback on the Sony Vaio SA laptop (1600x900 screen resolution, i5-2410 processor and an AMD 6630 gpu)? I'm leaning toward purchasing this laptop due to its great battery life and mobility, but wanted to also ensure I was able to enjoy SL at the same time. Does anyone have any thoughts they can share on using this laptop with SL?Also, many have said the most important part of a good SL experience (besides the company) is the best gpu you can can afford. This particular laptop max's out at the 6630, but I could also **maybe** afford to an upgrade the processer (i7-2620), both are dual core, so I wondered if the $250 dollar difference was worth it.Thanks for your thoughts.
Keoki Tucker Posted August 18, 2011 Author Posted August 18, 2011 Sorry for the bump, but I'm having a hard time getting past this laptop as a serious new purchase candidate, but didn't want to purchase without feedback from the SL community. Thanks.
Shiron Dingson Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Yes the AMD 6630 GPU in the VAIO SA is powerful enough to run SL on medium settings smoothly
Keoki Tucker Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 Thanks for the reply Shiron. I decided not purchase the Vaio SA as I recently learned Sony is releasing another version of the S series, the Vaio SE (sometime in October 2011). Similar specs to the SA, light weight and dedicated GPu, but with a 15 inch form factor and 1080p screen. Sony offer a slice battery as an option as well. Preliminary reviews say you'll loose some of the great battery life of the SA but it'll still offer some great times with the slice battery attached. I had always worried about the smaller screen size of the SA and so the SE seems perfect for me.
