My friend was 'banned' from SL and secondlife.com with no email as to explaining why.

Nobody here can help, only Linden Lab. Your friend will have to submit a ticket appealing the ban. Read this Knowledge Base article. She should not try to log in at the web site but use the guest facility and give details of the avatar name involved and an email address for LL to communicate by.
