Run for the Sea.
Summer Sailstice Marathon 2024 @ Second Norway
22 – 28 June 2024

A run to the Sea.

On the occasion of the summer solstice, a season that celebrates light and renewal, we are proud to present "Run for the Sea. Summer Sailstice Marathon 2024," an event that combines sports, nature, and ecological awareness into a unique and unforgettable experience. This non-competitive marathon takes place along Second Norway's road network, offering participants the opportunity to explore some of the region's most enchanting and distinctive places in a run that is as much a personal challenge as it is a journey through natural beauty.

Starting at Ruoya in the southwest of the region, runners will venture through breathtaking landscapes that offer spectacular views of the oceans we seek to protect. The finish line is located in the picturesque village of Kalvoya, where we will celebrate not only our achievements but also our collective commitment to protecting our seas.

"Run for the Sea is not just a marathon; it is a call to action. Through this event, we want to bring to the public's attention the ecological problems that plague our oceans, from plastic contamination to biodiversity loss. Every step we run together brings the world closer to greater awareness and, we hope, concrete solutions to protect our precious marine ecosystems.

Join us on this unique adventure-let's run together for the sea, for our planet, and for the future. We look forward to seeing you at Second Norway to share in this unique experience!

Run of the  Sea is part of the celebration ofl  Summer Sailstice in Second Life 2024 and participates in  Festival of the Oceans Nautical Expo

FAQ

How long will it be open for?

Throughout the Summer Sailstice, from June 22 until the end of the event, Friday, June 28

where does it start and where does it end?

The start of the marathon is in Ruoya and ends in Kalvoya. Between the starting point and finishing point, 40 sims will be crossed, covering an extension of more than 10 kilometers (6 miles)

How long does it take to go from start to finish?

Running without stopping, about twenty minutes.
Certainly, testing yourself in competition is a great reason to participate, but the marathon is not competitive, and there are many reasons to stop along the way! Everyone is free to have the experience they want.

How can I participate?

As you wish.
1) free run.
The route is free, so anyone can decide to start whenever they want during the event period.

2) group run.
Running in a group is definitely more fun!   You can organize your group whenever and however you want but REMEMBER that groups of MORE than 10 people can create problems: lag, and slowdowns.

We tested a group with this maximum number and did not encounter any problems. The whole region is Homestead therefore has permits for a limited number of concurrent users.

5) inauguration run

If you would like to run with the event organizers, we will be ready to go on June 22 at 1 p.m. SLT
Registration is required for the inauguration run, which is necessary to have the maximum number of participants. In case there are more participants, we will repeat the run in the next hour.

Is it necessary to pay to run?

No, participation is free!  But for the first time, Summer Sailstice in Second Life is an official Relay For Life in Second Life team!  You can donate at Relay For Life kiosks you'll see on the route.  100% of your L$ will help fund cancer research and provide services to cancer patients and caregivers (including inside SL).
You will find a kiosk at the start and end of the marathon route where you can leave it.

is the route marked?

yes, the direction of the route is indicated with signs all along the route, you can't miss it! (Signposts will be put up a couple of days before the race)

What are the rules?

1 the run must be done on foot, running or walking. it is unsportsmanlike to fly or teleport.
2 the run takes place only along the streets of the designated route. no shortcuts or route changes are allowed.
3. remember that homes and grounds are private property, we are respectful of people's privacy

What do we find at the end of the ride in Kaloya village?

A store is set up in the village with gadgets and information on how to get to the boat fair exhibition.
Docked at the docks in the harbor, boats could also be displayed (we check interest from exhibitors)

Are there any side events?

Yes, we have:
In Real, In World in Art. Between reality, virtuality, and generative AI. (2008/ 2024)
An art exhibition to be curated by the Friends of the Metaverse Museum, with several exhibited works presented by artists RL who have found inspiration or technique in the metaverse, and who bring it back into their work externally.
