Go to your dashboard (connect with your username and password). On the left of the screen, go to "account" > "cancel account". Be sure you really want to cancel before you do so. If you are Premium, you might downgrade to Basic which is free. In case you change your mind later, all your inventory and LMs will still be here.

Keep in mind that reactivating a cancelled account may cause loss of your inventory, landmarks, etc, and that SL charges a little less than 10 US$ for reactivation.
