Problem with Firestorm and SL Viewer - Maybe due to Windows Update???

Question

This one is weird, and I've been working on it for over a week now. I AM NOT a computer person, but I am getting help from people who are and we're stumped.

All of this started after the latest Windows 11 update on two laptops - one completely new and a week apart. Everything I try gets me closer to full functioning in the Firestorm browser. After my old laptop updated windows - this all started. I connected a new laptop I had and about a week later it updated windows and this started happening on it.

At first, I couldn't log onto SL at all through either viewer. Firestorm would boot me out immediately, SL viewer would load me at my home setting, but boot me a few seconds later. Sometimes I would get a BugSplat error, but never an error or other message from SL. I do have an open ticket with SL for their viewer - that is ongoing.

Things I've tried:

- Uninstalling the most recent Windows updates - no change.

- Turning off all firewalls (public & private) - no change

- Whitelisting suggested files for Firestorm - this didn't work and I couldn't figure out how to get most of the *.exe files onto the whitelist - very frustrating.

- Adding suggested exclusions for Firestorm - this helped a lot and I think is what got me back to logging in at my home with my original avi. Note - before this step I could log with Firestorm in text mode, but none of the other modes.

-Reinstall of Firestorm - I could log onto my home setting with my original avi. I could not TP - meaning I can do a TP but the regions booted me off (crash - still no SL error message, sometimes a bugsplat message). I could not log my alts in. Also weird is I recently changed my password (at some point thinking that might help). The new password works with my original avi, but not my alts. The old passwords gets SL to load, but I crash with them.

- Clean install of Firestorm - I can now log in with at least one alt (still have to use old password) and my original avi (new password). I still cannot successfully leave my home (original avi and alt). Most places I go either crash immediately, I'm there for a few seconds and then crash, or I get a notification that a simulator has changed, then I crash.

- After crashing a bunch I can no longer login with my original avi to my home. Clearing my DNS cache solved this problem for a bit, but eventually that stopped working and I needed to do another clean install of Firestorm.

This is not a modem/router issue in that my connection and speed are fine - this has been checked multiple times, my download speed is consistently above 400.

My next guess is it being a port issue - but I'm coming here before I teach myself how to do that.

The last Bugsplat error message noted these files (which may or may not be relevant???):

- Firestorm releasex64b29... (\AppData\Local\Temp)

- NK3H0JV6.xml   (\AppData\Local\Temp)

- static_debug_info.log  (\AppData\Roaming\Firestorm...)

- settings.xml   (\AppData\Roaming\Firestorm...)

- settings_per_account.xml    (\AppData\Roaming\Firestorm...)

Any help is appreciated, this is how long distance boyfriend and I connect between phone calls :(

*Edit: I have removed huds, clothes, and hair before Tping to other regions - no change - still crash.

Hi Clara

I'm experiencin the same problems.

I've tried a lot more to than you to solve the problem, with no luck.

I can log in just fine on my old Windows 10 laptop.

On my new Windows 11 laptop my internet works fine, except for SL.

At times when I can log with Windows 11, my internet will even stop working.

I've asked LL to look into this, and hopefully it can be resolved.

I don't run SL on my notebook with Win11 but I have had TONS of problems with updates and issues with all sorts of programs. My "fix" each time (fingers cross this keeps working) is to run Glary Utilities. Most of my issues appear to have been in the registry --- each time (and we are talking about 8 in less than a year).  I suspect other utilities clean ups will do the same.

Good luck. If that works it is a pretty easy fix and so I don't panic as much when the updates come.
