Question

What software does SL allow imports from? Imports such as sculptures or skins, avis, etc. I read somewhere (can't remember where) that it doesn't matter as long as the software has an export feature.

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks!

You can import a bitmap texture from any paint program.  Use .png, .jpg, .tif, or .bmp file types, and keep overall dimensions under 1024 x 1024 pixels.  Re-sizing to dimensions that are powers of 2 will result in cleaner uploads (e.g., 256x512, 512x512, etc.)  Textures seldom need to be higher resolution than 512 pixels, and should be kept to 128 or 256 if possible, to fight lag.

You can import .wav sound files, but they must be less than 10 seconds duration and must be PCM WAV format, 16-bit, 44.1kHz, mono files.

You can import .bvh animation files.  Save them in Poser 2 compatible format and keep duration under 30 seconds.

You can import .dae (Collada) mesh files, from Blender or other 3D modeling programs that will export that file type.  Sketchup is known to have problems creating a clean model, I don't recommend using it for SL.
