Hi everyone,

I create a new topic about rigging issues, i know i made one already (http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Mesh/Problem-with-rigging-mesh/td-p/2762746) but my post is sinking and i still don't manage to rigg any mesh..  So i was wondering what armature/default avatar shape do you guys use to rigg your mesh on and what version of Blender do you use? Because i have followed all the tutorials i could find on youtube but everytime i upload my mesh, it is not rigged at all. I was thinking it is maybe because of the avatar i use or maybe my Blender's configuration is messed up and that would explain why it doesn't rigg anything properly :/

I use the female avatar from here http://lecs.opensource.secondlife.com/fittedmesh/SecondLifeAvatarSkeleton.zip

and i have the latest version of Blender (V2.71)

If someone could help me i would be really grateful !

This is what we give away for free:

  • We have been actively making and keeping Blender's Collada exporter compatible with Second life for about 3 years now.
  • We have added support for fitted mesh right into Blender (this works since Blender 2.70), see here for some details:

    http://blog.machinimatrix.org/fitted_mesh_survival_kit/

  • We have created avatar.blend, the avatar_workbench.blend and recently also the fitted_mesh.blend, all available for free.

So actually you do not need to get Avastar, because you already can do a lot without it. Avastar "only" adds a lot of functionality for making rigged mesh (characters and attachments). Here is a brief comparison of "pure blender" with "Avastar":

http://blog.machinimatrix.org/avastar/compare-to-workbench/

So, whenever someone asks me about what would be the best to do, i always propose to first learn Blender and modelling, then learn rigging, and then, finally, when you exactly know how Avastar's tools can help you, only then think about buying it.

You might end up deciding to not use Avastar and i am absolutely fine with that. Or you might eventually decide to get it, which i would appreciate of course.

Hello Gaia and thank you very much fore bringing me all those informations, i appreciate it :)

I know i should be able to rigg mesh with the basic features of Blender but for some reason it doesn't work. That's why i posted screenshots step by step in my previous post, hoping someone could see if i did something wrong or if my settings were messed up somehow. It is frustrating because it looks so simple to rigg mesh clothes but i am still new with Blender :/
