It 'should' do, but it depends on how the webcam was made.  It is possible, but unlikely, that the manufacturers did not design the microphone to work as normal.  The easy way to check is to try to configure it within SL - if SL can hear it at all then it'll work as well as anything else.  (Outside SL; if you can use this microphone for normal audio work it's all the same thing.  The big question is if/how the webcam make the sound available to the rest of your computer).

HOWEVER! : Does it have an 'off' switch?  Most webcam mics will always be live and you will lose friends rapidly with all the extraneous noises, background sound, passers-by, etc. that you are broadcasting to the world.
