Question

Im new at SL and not very tech savvy.   After I log on I can take a few steps or pan around a little and then the viewer will lock up.  If I hit ctl, alt, delete it says program is not responding and I have to force close. I have tried 3 different viewers now all with the same results: SL, Singularity and Firestorm.  The client frame rate (?) seems to be always below 10 as well if that helps.

This is what I can tell you about my computer:

Intel Core 2 Qaud CPU

Q9400@ 2.66 GHz

2.67 GHz, 2.67 GB of RAM

Can anyone help a carpenter figure out a computer problem? :) Thx

Sorry, told you Im not tech savvy:

Windows XP,  I do have a TV tuner on this PC if that matters, ATI TV Wonder, Is that my graphics card?

Not sure what GPU is, lol.

Ok, here it is :

Framerate is more of the prcessing through your graphic card. (you forgot to add details about your GPU, your OS and other relevant information *)

Make sure that your graphic card is amongt the listed and supported graphic cards for SL:  http://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/

If it keeps "unresponsive" also make sure to run it in adminmode (rightclick the exe - properties - compatiblytiy tab  - run as admin)

And also ensure that any antivirus software does not intermingle with the viewer exe or any of its plugin executeables. (make sure to set allowance rules ) some AV's will run it in sandboxed mode if you didnt allow it, which can cause the program to not function properly.

* If you want to add more deatils to your post - use the EDIT function - do not start a new thread.

Go to the viewer and look at the top menus. Go to "Help" and down to "About Second Life" (or "About [name of viewer.]"

You should see some arcane text and a button at the bottom that says "Copy to Clipboard." Hit that button, return to the forum, edit the post with your question and "paste" the information there. That will tell us a lot.

BR, your video is actually built into your main CPU and it's not adequate for Second Life. You might be able to get updated drivers for it that will at least allow you to run SL but you still will have very poor performance. Even an inexpensive add-in video card will make things much better for you.

Natasha, please create a new post in this Answers forum rather than asking your question under someone else's question. Thank you!
