Packing vectors for storing poseball offsets

does anybody have any ideas as far as compressing the size of vectors used for storing large number of poseball offsets.

I am considering converting the vector elements to signed bytes in a single integer, this would yeild a range of -127 to 127 and by multiplying by .01 yeild values between -1.27 and 1.27 or almost 4 feet in all directions which seems like it would be sufficient if you were careful creating your animations...any thoughts ?
