Gumby Dorchester
I have been doing some research with http://www.speedtest.net/ as to internet speeds in various regions of the US.East Coast Servers and West Coast Servers give me good speeds when I connect but Servers in Texas seem to be very poor.I test Texas because I understood that this is one of the SL data centres? (Please correct me if I am wrong here.)I live in the UK and would expect the Atlantic to be the bottle neck but this appears not to be the case? California gets pretty good speeds too.I have been experiencing terrible lag lately in SL. I wonder if this is perhaps not down to the LL servers but down to the internal infrastructure within the US. If The dataservers are in Texas then infrastructure there needs a lot of work at the moment. Is someone able to confirm the locations of the LL Servers? Also could someone suggest to LL that they need to look at their external internet routing if their servers do in deed sit in Texas? Orca Flotta
Yes Gumby, LL's biggest colo is in Dallas/Tx. As far as I understood they have an internal fiber ring so that speed from SF to the Dallas servers is smooth. And yes again, LL are not just lacking in processing power but in bandwith as well. To be honest LL is the worst possible company to run something as demanding as SL.
