how can i add text on an object ?

hi..am creating an object and i want to display a text on it...but not make it float...what i want is to make it like a chart...is any one can support me with a simple code example for this...thnx in advance :)

Use a photo editing program such as Photoshop or Gimp (the lattest is free, see the link below). Create a file with a transparent background, use the Text tool to type your text and save as a copy in PNG format. Then upload the image in your viewer: it will go to your textures folder. You can now apply it on the object. (Make sure you make the texture modifyable in the permissions to be able to strech it as you wish).

Hello, 3 methods i know of.

Textures - valerie explained perfectly

Media on a prim - shows a website as "texture"

XYText - http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/XyText_1.5

last one is often used for display boards or contest boards, it´s done with textures too but you can script the text displayed.

Well, Gimp is free for a reason, it's a pain the the rear to use. Photoshop costs a fortune so that doesn't help me.
