VinnyAzmus
I have mild photosensitivity and can only use a computer comfortably if it has a reflective, e-ink like screen that allows me to turn the backlight off (Pixel Qi is the only thing like this available right now as far as I know). Unfortunately, there are a very limited number of devices (all netbooks and tablets) that can currently accomodate the Pixel Qi screen, and I'm wondering if any of them could handle the SL viewer. It looks like the basic requirements are met by all of them (except the notion ink, which runs android, but has the potential to run linux), but I'm not sure about the specifics involved with processors and graphics cards.I'd much appreciate some advice. If anyone knows of a reflective screen like the Pixel Qi that's being used in other devices, that I would also love to know. Here are the devices and tech specs:Sol Tablet PCProcessor: Intel Atom N455 1.66 GHzOperating System: Windows 7Memory: 1GB DDR3 (supports up to 2GB)Graphics: UMA of Integrated Graphics 200MHz/DirectX9Hard Drive 8/16/32 GBNotion Ink AtomSystem on ChipNVIDIA Tegra 250Dual Core Cortex A-9ULP GPUMemory+Storage1GB DDR2 RAM1GB SLC8 GB FlashMicro-SD Card supportSamsung N220 PlusProcessorIntel® Atom™ Processor N470 1.83 GHzOperating SystemGenuine Windows® 7 StarterMemory1 GB (DDR2 / 1 GB x 1) HDD250 GB (5400 rpm S-ATA)Optical Disk DriveNoGraphics ProcessorIntel GMA3150 (Int. Theresa Tennyson
The processors and especially video systems on all those devices would give you extremely poor performance; it's entirely possible that the viewer won't even run. SL relies on the client computer and video card for most of the hard calculations, especially rendering. The minimum requirements for SL haven't been updated lately and if you're at the bare minimum for all you couldn't do much other than log into a sim with little detail and few avatars and stand around. If any of those devices have an input for outside video you might try runnning SL on a full desktop or laptop computer and piping the video into the device. There may be other ways to get around backlit screens too - can you tolerate watching a projected image? You could connect a projector to the computer and use that to see what's on screen.
