Excuse me, I am going to spam you with pictures;

I was searching for hair through my web browser and was surprised when one of the top results had traffic of 17.0. Why is that parcel relevant? So I clicked 'more info' and got a giant list of items found there. First photo is a screen capture that shows the top of the list, second one is the bottom of the list:

As you can see, there are 399 items checked to show in search. After teleporting there I found myself in the shop high in the air and the coordinates were on the ground level. Somehow I managed to go down and take a snapshot

Then I searched for other items, this time through inworld search but I filtered it, choosed places and checked 'traffic high to low'

And those are avatars on the place thats always high in the search.

So, lets say I am one of the unexperienced residents and would like to open a shop inworld. Searching through all possible advertising ways and looking other peoples examples, I found out that those 2 ways really help! So I can either create tons of alts or place few hundred objects and just leave them to boost my traffic. Did I got it right?

What should I do? Follow succesfull examples like those 2 or try the hard way? Fair one.

A stupid and perhaps pertinent thing is that just suppose you really were intending to buy some hair- in fact needed some for a party that very night. Would you have found any at either of these two 'stores', or would you have given up in frustration and headed off to the Marketplace?

There are great creators of hair, with lovely inworld shops who needed a customer, and didn't get one.

I've done the same with skin searches, shoe searches, etc in the past, and am often mystified by the results. It's why I do my searching on the Marketplace so that I can verify that a store really does specialise in what I want to buy. (To ensure that they do indeed make and sell hair, not randomly placed blue beds, lol.) Then I go inworld to their store to do my shopping.

If I saw a list of items with descriptions like that, I'd pass them by. You can't tell anything about "hair 9056 - dfiogh klsden oljhnk lwoxzm slejuvm fkpoik posmkfp skuig kfoa laiiktms." Why would anyone bother to go look?

Likewise, if I TP into a sim filled with avies who all had names like "SLW", "OXV", "ISG" and "XMQ"... It's obvious that they're there to game traffic and that there's probably nothing there I want to see. NOTHING.

I wouldn't call that "successful" at all, so I think you know what my answer would be.
