Mirrored objects mess up upon upload?

The first picture is how it is supposed to look.  That is what I exported the model as, but when it gets uploaded into Second Life, the object deforms like the second picture.  The strange thing is it only did it with the rings, I mirrored the other object just fine.

I've tried using both Mirror and symmetry.  I've even detached the polygons so that they become their own object, but it seems even when I do that, the mirrored ring is still linked to its original.  Does anybody know how to either fix this upload problem? Or tell me a way I can fix this in 3ds Max before I export it?
