Jate,

You simply change your shape and wear the clothing, footware, [optionally makeup] and hair of the gender you wish to present as:

Your name is unique in that "Jate" can be both male or female in connotation.

Your SL account does not lock you into any particular presentation.

One other thing, if you right click on yourself and select Edit Shape you can select between male and female at the top of the floater where you have two astronomical symbols for Mars and Venus (could have just used M and F).

Men are from Mars you know, or is it Lindens are from Mars, I can never remember.

Anyway back to the point, it changes a few if the sliders to be more applicable to your chosen gender.
