Aerdrin
Evening SL community, I've played SL off and on the past year, and have always had a positive enjoyable experience. I never had issues before I reformatted my computer last week. It seems anytime I try to load into a zone, on both the default SL Viewer and Firestorm, it literally takes -forever- to load in zones. Most of the time it never loads in everything, only some of the content being finished. Some specs: On speedtest.net, I consistently clock my internet speed at 35-40 MB/s, so my internet speed is not an issue. Mind you, in both viewers I've moved the network cap slider around, and still the client refuses to use more than, say, 250 Kb/s to load in content. My computer hardware is also decently up to date. I'm using a Phenom 955 Quad at 3.4 Ghz, HD5770 card, and 6GBs of RAM on Windows 7 Ultimate. I've toyed with graphical settings as well, showing zero difference in the horrendous loading. I'm turned firewalls off and on, and it also hasn't made any difference. Is there anything I'm missing? Some setting that's untweaked, or perhaps a program to boost my client's network loadtimes? Any help would be appreciated.
PeterCanessa Oh
Check the ping and packet-loss figures in the viewer statistics window. Use a wired connection to your modem/router. Try pingtest.net instead of speedtest.
Aerdrin
Did a test on Pingtest.net, found that IP Flood Detection was set on my modem, and was causing 94% Packet Lose. Switched it off, everything works like a dream now. Much obliged, Peter.
Luc Starsider
Hi. Sorry for coming in a bit late here, but this is interesting. What kind of modem do you use? Could be useful to know for others, which is why I ask. - Luc -
Aerdrin
I recently had a tech from Charter, my internet provider, set up a new faster modem in my home. A Cisco dpc3825 was what was installed. I did a bit of googling after I noticed the mass packet lose, along with my SL/other online game issues, and noticed it was a common issue with the particular router. After switching off the setting, as I said, everything works flawlessly.
Luc Starsider
Thanks Aerdrin. Great info. I'm sure it info will come in handy. There has been a few questions lately from people who have had similar issues. Perhaps some of them have Cisco modems as well. Glad you fount the fault and got things sorted out! - Luc -
