It has been a few weeks but we are getting a updated code onto the main channel this week.

Second Life Server (main channel)
This is a "Maint-Server" branch. This was on BlueSteel and LeTigre last week.
  • No new features.
    • This release is focused on internal stability with networking code.
    • Modified existing throttles and caps on network traffic.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Several fixes for certain crashmodes involved with SVC-7713 "sim crashes all avatars on sim (dosent restart but crash all viewers) multiple times a day"

Second Life RC BlueSteel
This is a new "maint-server" project.
  • The explicit ban height for parcels is being raised to 5000m. This means that avatars that are explicitly banned from a parcel can not enter them unless they are at least 5000m above ground. This allows high-altitude fly-overs as before, but they must be done at a much higher altitude.
  • Bug Fixes
    • SCR-6 "llGetSubString can produce results that crash Mono scripts"
    • SCR-281 "recent release to agni (12.02.06.248938 I think) breaks llDeleteSubstring behaviour."
    • Removed old unused server code.
    • Fixed several server crash modes.

Second Life RC LeTigre
This will get the same maint-server code as is on BlueSteel

Second Life RC Magnum
This will continue to host the Threaded Region Crossing Phase One code.

We will be monitoring this thread during the next week so please feel free to post issues that you feel have been introduced by the new code. Please file a JIRA for issues you find and post the JIRA link into this thread. It really helps us out. When determining if issues are relevant or not research is key. Tracking down exactly the right situation where an issue is occurring greatly speeds up the development process to get fixes in place.
I appreciate your help. Have a good week!

p.s. If you are interested in helping test SecondLife in beta please join the group "Second Life Beta" in-world. We also have an email list where we communicate upcoming projects and how you can help. (https://lists.secondlife.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/server-beta ) Once a week we meet on ADITI to discuss new features, new bugs, new fixes, and other fun stuff. You are more than welcome. Information is here:https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Server_Beta_User_Group

Blue Steel and Le Tigre maint-server release:

The change to the explicit ban-height seems crazy. I see from the limits page that maximum altitudes appear to have been increased, but this could be awkward for anyone using an aerial vehicle.

I know of one parcel I am banned from (the reason is irrelevant) and it's on a region edge. They didn't tell me I was banned, and I found out the hard way when I was flying a 'plane. There's a potential for abuse here.

There's a balance in these things, and I think this change gets it badly wrong. You guys do realise that 5000m translates to over 16,000 feet altitude?

Where has this come from?

No it doesn't. You can't fly a vehicle over 4096m.

Given that aviators are often inadvertently banned by automatic “security” devices, some of which work sim wide and no doubt many more will soon thanks to the coming llGetAgentList, this will make flying on mainland considerably harder than it is already.

Personally I fly an airplane and I don't have anyone banned from my property, but this still doesn't seem like a problem to me.

Thanks for that pointer to the Jira.

Reading the thread, I see many of the usual arguments about griefers, some of them the same as those I saw supporting Redzone when that was the big issue, a year ago.

Based on my experience, of events maybe happening a couple of times a year, I will not get told when I have been banned, and the reasons for it will not obviously fit the image of griefing that the Jire-entry seems to depend on. In any event, how many griefers use the same account for more than a few days? I can't see this as stopping griefers.

But is will turn a ban, made for other reasons, into something far more abusive.
