Creating a ring with 2 invisible prims that resize?

Here's my problem.  I'm making a ring that has 2 invisable prims that are for scripting purposes.  I've cut a tourus prim down so that it's proper size.  I also create a simple cube and sphere that are minimum sized however when I link the 3 and then take the item up the invisable prims poof back to bigger size.  Is there a way around this problem that I'm not seeing?  I tried searching but can't seem to get the right terms to get an answer on this.

Your question would be much better being reposted in the Building and Texturing forum (http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Building-and-Texturing-Forum/bd-p/buildingandtexturing) than here.
