Question

I am the creator/owner of a group, and yet sometimes when I want to start a chat session, I get the message "Unable to start a new chat session with (name of the group) .You don't have the ability."

In addition, the group chat tends to be incredibly slow for everyone so that members often get a timed-out message when trying to post and even when posts are getting through, it is very laggy.

Is there any option to reset chat, or get the Lindens to do it? This is not a land group or store group, just a group whose entire purpose is to facilitate communication. We have less than 400 members, and usually only up to a few dozen are even online at the same time, so it's not that we're too busy. This is incredibly frustrating and it's only been getting worse.

------

Edit: Yes, thanks, I know that group chat in general is borked. But this one particular group is regularly far worse than any of my other groups. It's gotten to the point where my members are sending Notices because they can't Chat, and I've even been urged to give it up and start a new group in hopes that chat will actually work.

There is no doubt groups are broken and chat is borked. There are several JIRAs for it.  You may want to comment on one.

The problem stems from the fact that groups were created to allow a few people to hold land together, not for communication between large groups of people.  They just were not designed for it.  LL has stated they are working on fixing it, but it is a complicated issue.
