  1. Well, I had a place in the line to get my lifetime premium account- but as I ran the numbers (I provided in this thread) - I have decided to decline to go through with the lifetime account. Given that it was a limited offer (FMO!), and it was still available after all this time,  I think that speaks volumes about the cost/benefit risk/reward of their offer.

IMHO it was more of a "survey" to see who would bet with RL money that SL would still be here in 8 years rather than a money-making cash grab for today's dollars. And I think, in the words of that great game show, "Survey Says...most people wouldn't bet on it."

  2. I actually applied and got a slot - though still have a few more hours to accept it or not. I ran the numbers - as others have said (and showing my math workings below for the curious). Like others have said - five years ago no problems jumping on it -  but now.... :/

    The Math

Today you pay  $99  for an annual premium. Though it is really less with the yearly stipend of  15600L (300L X52)  which is like $70 meaning the net cost is like $29 a year to have a premium account.
Lifetime premium divided by normal annual premium $749/$99 = 7.5 years (or really 8 years as you cant have a 1/2 year membership).

So I'd have to stay in SL another 8 years to "breakeven".

The lifetime premium is  $749. Assuming the same weekly stipend and that the stipend doesn't change we get $70*8= $560. So the cost is $749-560 =$189 IF you stay in SL and collect the stipend.

Then its a free $70 a year forever ..or until it dies..or rules change...

Of course cashing out your stipend will incur transaction fees and rate fees.
