  1. There is a little program out there called DU meter  you get to try for free for 30days go get one and watch the data load that sl places on your internet connection. I think you will be surprised how little bandwidth SL actually uses I rarely see no more than 100Kbps which makes on wonder what's going on with the rest of my 25 meg line ))

There are many others who use video cards of much less stature than your current setup and obtain very useable results

I suppose 120 fps is nice if you have a monitor that can scan that rate but the human eye does not interpolate 60 HZ  if it did we would all be walking around watching flickering lights  Movies are presented at 24 fps and in SL anything over 15 to 20 fps gives a rather smooth presentation

  2. This depends on if you are using an animation  when used in an AO various animations will cause you to either float above the base ground or below it this has a lot to do with the center point of your avatar and the structure of the animation the animation can be changed to fit your avatar but the creator would need to do this task. I normally do not release AO animations because every AV is different and I make them to fit me ))  for the technical that's about a minus 58 or 59 in poser for the z axis but every AV is different you can try adjusting your height until the pose works properly but then it is not your person.

  3. Well

First of all I have not yet observed any computer that will run SL at 100 FPS in all conditions even a 3770k and an Nvid GTX 670 will slow in congested areas

Second without any knowledge of your CPU, GPU,OS,Firewall valid suggestions can not be made

There are many switches that are possible with both Nvidia and ATI GPU's  although ATI cards are a little more problematical

If you have not excluded Second Life from firewall scans it will try an analyze all data from the game continuously including your cache data flow.

Do you have Second Life and your cache installed on your boot drive

I have noticed some throttling of bandwidth lately and if you have yours set too high this will create problems

Did you do a true fresh install the last time. This means removing all the files that SL likes to leave on your system and in your registry including the entry for Linden Research

Also there is no reason to run 100 FPS with SL as it is pointless and only forces the GPU to possibly overheat this can be controlled with Nvidia GPU's. Are you monitoring the GPU heat if not you need to an overheated GPU will throttle and/or shut down

Is your computer a laptop of big box version )) if you are running a laptop I would suspect heat is your problem perhaps the Haswell will correct this problem

  4. If you can log in with an alt and not your main the folder containing the avatar data has been corrupted

    in XP it lives here

    F:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Firestorm

the owner is the name of your machine

It is in the user area in win 7 I believe but someone here I am sure can point you to the location

drag your main avatar folder from that location as a back up since it does contain txt files you might want to keep

if it remains in the firestorm folder delete it

then relog in you will have to enter your name and password since it now has no idea who you are

If this does not work log in with your alt and IM me in world and I will drag you through the long process of removing every little last spec of second life from your machine ))

This will solve the problem 95% of the time and since you can log in an alt you have none of the other problems referenced here or in the log in problems web site

the other 5% involve removing all references for second life from the registry as we all know it is as solid as a brick and never has problems ))

  5. This is hilarious  I never noticed the spam adds they run since I normally do not go to the main page and use a shortcut to log into my account then my default window is sized to only observe my active page. I actually had to go look for the spam adds.

Maybe I have developed an immunity to this type of advertising since a small part of the add is visible at the edge of my cropped screen

If you do not like them size the window to eliminate most of their content

this really cracks me up the fact that I had to go look for them ))

The alternative is that you can pay 14.95 to 19.95 for the pleasure of playing SL

  6. Well..  I have filed jira's in the past but gave up on them also as the first one I filed in 2005 (not his av for you day counters) for the default hand animations over riding user animations I do believe this has been solved this year and even a new lsl line of code to replace them...

As far as training new users I suppose that is true  of course depending on the language you speak. I looked at the new chatter box and it contains most of the logic used by the Lab in new creations at least to my mind it is very poorly implemented

  7. If the folks at LL would take the time required to make the basic functions of the viewer code stable. It never fails with in 3 or 4 days of an supposed update I am forced to do a gender test to recover my AV from the ruth

SL was difficult enough for a new user o learn before the new chat console now it is a magnitude more difficult for them not to mention it is confusing even after watching Torleys video

This does not require flaming from others just reflecting my thoughts on the user group as I know the management turns a deaf ear here

A new feature my prim (sculpts) fingernails now have self selected a new position on my hands but when I edit them they pop back to the proper positions thus they are now another worthless item in inventory thanks LL these updates are really great

  8. After digging through my entire system setup I decided to reduce the processor clock by 5% and the  crashes have been eliminated for the most part. It seems each server update loads just a few more bytes of information into the stream until the poor proc can no longer handle the flow resulting in strange problems. Who knows maybe my aging memory is developing Alzheimer's ))

  9. There is no question here unless you have knowledge of what code has been created to cause this problem. I am not the only individual experiencing this problem.

As far as I know LL does not really pay much attention to the forums

  10. Well yesterday I could count on crashing once or maybe twice a day, but, today the number has risen exponentially accessing inventory, changing worn items, or just walking may and does result in a crash. I have changed nothing the server was updated so one might associate this current condition with the update.

Also I have only had to run a gender test once in the last year recently twice this week, this gets very old since I am stripped of all items and have to re-add them this of course results in many crashes to the desktop

  11. I have posted system specs before but everyone just laughs at me )) I run old tech but high end old tech and the problem does not only affect me. My associate runs an Intel 3770k with a Nivid 670 video card and 16 GB of memory and has the same problems, crash on edit. This problem has occurred in the past and then been corrected. Seems as if past history is no guarantee of future success )). This also happens on my build platform where I maintain a good 30 to 40 fps with pings below 100 ms and low bandwidth consumption. Again just making a note here as if LL every monitors the forums ))

  12. I am sure sometime in the future tablets might become feasible but for right now why would you want to engage this experience on a 7 to 14 inch screen. Reminds me of the old days when monitors were 9 and 12 inches but I suppose when "on the road" it would be a convenient method of keeping tabs on you're pixel puppet.

Also the newest greatest product from MS has failed to live up to the hype as sales have reflected, seems it is a disappointment for MS.

  13. Mesh does seem to have its days and it's viewer preferences. There are times when mesh calculates just fine but then sits for  an eternity waiting to upload. The other day I went to bed with the waiting to load screen up and when I awoke  gee there it was 8 hours later )) still trying to function properly. I might suggest you open the statistics menu in SL  crl-shift-1 then look at your ping times  50 ms to 140ms is considered useable many times I have seen pings running up to 6000ms  that's 6 seconds. If you are in the Eastern US there seems to be only one path to the servers through Oklahoma and Texas  this is where many times I have found a bad router. I reported it several times but it continues to be in operation.

I also change viewers when uploads fail the LL viewer is by far the most stable but when it gives problems I fall back to the Firestorm many times with the same results except it is very sensitive to errors. As a last resort I use the Phoenix viewer which does not have the benefit of a fully operational engine but seems to be very forgiving and many times is the only path to success.

[As far as no financial information  on record just means find a friend to upload your mesh because "no info no play"]

  14. Perhaps someone with knowledge of this can answer. I run a 512 meg video card yet the current batch of viewers, does not matter the flavor, will only recognize 272 meg maximum. I do realize that SL has a maximum limit of 512 but it seems rather pointless to have the memory available if the game can or will not use it. Yes, I have been in the debug menu and it also limits the memory to 272 megs. Perhaps another 1 and 0 watcher failed in their mission.

  15. Thanks Echo ))

I have tried them all and although I rant actually the LL V3 crashes the least of all Firepit seems to be a major failure in this area also I have tried the entire ocean of 3rd party viewers. As much as I hate to say it the LL viewer works the best I just hate the candy land layout and the primary school logic they use, being a fan of the old simple life )) but then I am old  and the established habits are difficult to break.

oh btw here is another rant one might make the assumtion that a speeeel chacker employed by LINDEN LAB would not try and correct LL everytime I type it

  16. Here is a good read on the video card in the new lap top  http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-650M.71887.0.html it seems to be a middle of the heap card which should run SL depending on the memory on board It appears that the DDR5 memory is preferred as the DDR3 will create a bottleneck.

As far as the guy running the 2 690's maybe he should check the SL specs since SL has no idea of what to do with the SLI setup and 48 gigs of ram is way out of the ballpark hehe but it does help to have more than a 300 baud modem to run the game ))

  17. Does not matter which viewer is used to edit  A crash to the desktop is a crap shoot. This problem reared its head in the past and it appeared to have been solved until the last release of the viewer code. Since all subsidiary viewers are built on the LL base code this is a Lab problem. Again someone forgot to check all the 1's and 0's before releasing for the public use. In most cases it occurs after 30 to 50 edits if I had to pick an area it would appear to be a stack overflow or someone decided to truncate a string to a lesser value. Most irritating to accompany other minor viewer burred menu selections. Since the V1 viewer is all but dead it would be nice to have a configuration with the efficient layout of V1 and not the facebook era user interface.

On another point maybe I am just aged but the new V3 interface compared with the old V1 appearance menu seems to have no logic a case of lets take something easy to use and make it as confusing as possible

  18. Mesh Lab (free) has a section under filters, remeshing, simplification,Quadric edge collapse decimation  Long name))

it works very nicely and can maintain the parameters  the only downside it is will destroy the map requiring a new map for the new object, but the don't we all just live for mapping hehe

  19. Obviously the lab made another improvement after 7 years of this sometimes on and sometimes off experience it is getting very old. Since the last supposed fix logging on is a crap shoot normally resulting in a login then immediate crash to the desktop. Normal procedures seem to fail now such as cleaning the registry totally removing the always fragged cache and non ending disk checks. After all this is game programming fortunately not rocket science or all we would have on Mars is rubble but one would think after all of the time spent since 2003 someone might have a method of qualifying software before it is released

  20. Thank you for the input this appears to cured the problem at least for now but time will tell )) would be nice since this appears to be a problem if the default was false but then this is SL is it not

  21. Do not know what has changed but since the latest updates when I load a mesh file the system crashes to the desktop.

Mesh has always been a little quirky for me sometimes works sometimes either crashes or hangs at the upload after calculation

but recently I do not even get the chance to calculate. Striping the program from the computer helps sometimes allowing a single upload before a crash. The strip includes everything including the registry. Running registry mechanic sometimes allows another single load indicating that the code does something to the registry after a successful process. This happens in all 3 of the major viewers LL, Firestorm, and Phoenix also indicating the problem exists in the base code of the LL system.

Nothing has changed on my system ping times are OK and no packet loss.

This condition makes creation very frustrating to say the least. There are plenty of irritations in real life it is too bad when something that is supposed to be a past time and pleasurable becomes annoying.
