  1. Heya Amethyst, Yes in my country Trademarks are similar to yours. I agree with you for the « markets ». In fact I think one way to go would be to not to base a main project, i.e a store that sells replicas of RL stuff because it's playing with fire. As for using RL properties yeah Private properties aren't a good idea ! Google receive several complaints about privacy issue heh ? Those juridic cases are from the information age it is good to know that some juridic guidelines will be able to be established with those cases. Angain, generally speaking, individual or companies complain about IP or trademark violation when it's harming them. I've heard that Sun Microsystem (now Oracle) had and probably still have layers that are paid to monitor trademarks violation accross the web. They will send letters to whoever they feel put their logo on their website (even personal page) if they think it may confuse their customer about a product. I am cool about seing Ferraris replicas on sl. One day, (oh one day!) SL is gonna be the next big thing (again) and ferrarri will have a SIM here. That's gonna be different i suppose
  2. you might want to look how ppl proceed with google earth. I don't think that if you intend to reproduce a famous building you are going to cause a prejudice. Generally speaking. if you intend to sell some sort of replica, the fair way to proceed if to inform where your inspiration came from. The virtual world is one Market, the outside world can be seen as another. So in several cases there is no unfair competion with with the outside world. If company or organisation come to SL it may become too hot thou. Don't explicitely or implicitely associate their brand with any prejudiciable context. Play fair, put state your intentions clearly. nobody is gonna put you in jail or fine you right away. It always begin by a DMCA or other type of notice.
  3. Hello ! I feel some confusion here. I have changed the topic from "10L$ Textures « Previewing » ?" to "new LSL Feature : HTTP texture on a prim" Because obviously i have missed my goal hehe. Here is a practical situation : You want a austomer to press on button and have his Avatar Name to be Merged to one texture of your build (or his). So you set up you script, your image processing software and your server. You intend to offer the customer a preview. So how do you proceed ? your cleverly use llSetPrimitiveParams and link your texture preview to the build's face. What now if you offer a full fledged texturing tool that will process several faces ? you ask you client to download and re-upload the texture ? May be. You'll think about it at least. Beacause it's a no-no to used shared media on a linkset. And is this customer actually using Firestone uh Storm ? Why should he have to Re-UP a buch of watermarked textures ? We are clever and know every hacks and I use the word hack cause in the current state the Lastest Viewer isn't equipped to teach users about Temp upload. Would you like to have the ability to share an temporarily textured model ? You know you can spend 10L per textures when youll want to make things "permanent" and forget about referenced textures on a server that may go offline in the future.
  4. Hello Rolig ! Thanks for your interest. VWR-217's goes as the folowing : DescriptionPrevious summary was: New Feature -> LSL -> Dynamic Web TexturesWould provide a LSL-initiated way to do dynamic textures that are downloaded from a web site and placed on a prim face. Most of the action would be client side, but the URL would come from LSL and the server. You are right LL's servers support temporary upload and that at this time a third party viewer is required to benefit of this feature. However, currently there is no LSL implementation to display a referenced HTTP texture on prim just as your internet browser does. The media on a prim will fire a SLPlugin instance per Image, and won't let you display more than a few at once. I would be glad to find a jira reference that does not concern the viewer, but an actual mono lsl function that will display http content properly. It seems that this jira adresses it. If you think it's not, I would probably have advantage to change it. Regards, Mesa
  5. Hello Developpers ! This post relate to the jira VWR-217 wich suggest the implementation of an LSL feature to add an HTTP referenced image per prim's sides. As a developper, I don't want to empty my wallet to have a preview of what my build is looking under the shaders sun. There is several hack or the pseudo Shared Media « Experience » that may fill this feature gap, but none is doing the job on the main grid. We can certainly debate of the necessity of such feature and the favorable impact it would have but LL's 10L$ fee per Image in order to register an asset and host a texture can't only be justified by a storage cost. It is also a moderation fee, imposed to lower the fload of stored and forgotten textures that can't be cleaned up if there's any reference to them. Why constantly pay for this poor database management implementation ? I have created a group called « SayNoTo10L$Upload » that will poetically display « vote jira VWR-217 ! » over you head if you join. (and no, there is no 10L$ fee to join). For you enjoyement, nobody can chat or receive notice. So will be able to conviniently and quietly let other devs that you wish to address this lack of feature and abuse. I will let you guy's decide if you want to let this group be disbanded in 48h for cause of having no members. One thing is sure, the goal of this post is to invite you cordially to vote VWR-217 like the 104 persons that share this concern. Thanks ! Mesa
  6. Hi Phil ! The bots are actually used, they are relaying data to my servers as for the product itself it has not been released yet. As you know bots just as us, avatars, need to be logged in and will occupy a SIM. Since SIM owners all have different policies on logged agents, visitors, traffics etc. and that those policies arent very obvious or advertised, I am asking here on the forum. The fact that id wish to *park* 3 bots at one given place is for convinience. They could be hop programatically from one public SIM to another and I wouldn't have to deal with a landlord about em. Since I need space for my shop, that there will be a rezzing area for some demo objects. I add this to the requirement as well. The Idea behind that is to find a A) person that will actually know about everything and won't disagree later for any (real or imaginary) reason and cause me to move. B) Find an organisation or an single individual that have a SIM and would benifit of the rent to fund his own project or reduce his cost. On top of that, and note that i don't have anything agaisnt Sale Agents or Gigantic Estates, it's just that they don't have clear policies, don't really care if one of their SIM host one, two, five! clubs, a camping mall, a fashionista convention of Scripted Attachements Addicts (or any other imaginable oddities). So one day your fine, and the next day, month, there's some BOZO that rent the next parcel and make your life difficult. And may i ask, by putting my own money into What ? I am not asking a free corner btw. I am more than happy to share or rent any place that will welcome me. As for renting a whole sim this is overkill. regards, mesa
  7. Hmhm, distributed computing sure sound nicer than cloud computing but i think i am getting a bit out of topic. It's what I intended in my naïve and (a bit clouded) mind. some kind of cluster of blackboxes on which you could layer VMs transparently. Their assets servers are pretty much scalable already as it's nothing less than a database and a file server. As for their simulator and physic engine it would mean to recode em for parallelism (or distributed, which is another thing) and due to the fact that the network is slower than a bus, I think it would require some kind of new hardware as well. Ive heard such thing exist thou. But hey, remotely or not, that's every developpers dream.
  8. Hmm.. sure they run multiples instances on one machine but the result is sluggish. On the other hand, with a VM you can actually run a sim with few ressources and use more only when you need it. Convinient for admins but why is there is to be any advantages in a structure that have for aim to be as transparent as possible ? Lots of improvements are made in this field. That's the future. You can even run a VM in a VM nowadays.
  9. 3 reasons why I think LL should look on running the grid over a VM. Scalable, Cheaper and more GREEN ! I really see no reasons to stick one SIM per server. It purely nonsensical and a great waste of ressources. The homesteads lacks of garanteed ressources and even if they arent supposed to be used as a real SIM we aren't really at ease on em. Mesa
  10. I would like to add a precision : the bots dosent do anything. they have no scripted attachements. They are sitting, not even colliding. They doesnt make any connections on the sims to download the the environnement. I would like to thanks the estate's agents but I will skip what I could obviously find with the search bar. If there is a private owner with a sim of his/her own and actually look for serious tenant, we may have common affinities. Thanks again. Regards, mesa

Preferably up in the air to ease on the customer's viewer. waiting for quotes ! - it fits all categories of rental except mainland and homestead due to the low avatar per region ratio limit. - FYI, a bot (or agent) is basically an usual avatar execpt that it's unmanned. - Contact me Via IM if you want to speak directly. Thank you. Regards, Mesa
