[How do I set the ACS vehicle system for a regular road car?]

I bought a cute car but its steering is just awful. It feels like driving on a frozen lake. It's totally oversteering and uncontrollable. The script menu is from ACS. There are tons of settings and I have no idea what they do or what they even mean.

 

Under steering there is:

 

• Steer
• Resist
• Velmult
• Drift
• Camber
• Powerslide
• Bonus
• Shift Slide

 

There are also setting for gravity like VAttrac where I also have no idea what they do.

 

Anyone know what these mean and what I have to set so this car will just behave normally on a Linden road? I don't want to race any tracks!

Both. She isn't the same species even so obviously she isn't just a virtual representation of myself but a different entity with her own name and history. But of course she is also "me" in the sense that I identify with her. I even feel her personal space violated when someone runs into her or stands too close.

Sighs. I get a little annoyed by your personal crusade against porn and "kinks" you personally don't like and/or refuse to understand. A few decades ago, people said the same things about gays ... I don't think that this forum is the right place to discuss your personal issues about OTHERS' private lives.

 

If porn is bad or not is totally irrevelant for the question about how a future virtual world should handle the issue. It's a simple marketing decision and nothing else.

Really, that's why Facebook, Google, Apple, Disney, flickr, Yahoo, Skype etc. are niche products while SL has billions of users, private and corporate. Oh wait, it's the opposite. It's the adult content that cripples SL to a niche for "socially inept weirdos" you better not talk about.

Re "Postident":

What keeps a minor from using a postident verified person's computer and account? Nothing. They can still access anything they want. And as an adult user, you could still run into a minor using such an account engaging with them in a sexual way.

The truth is, it is impossible to verify identity online. All you can do is make people click some question that asks their age. And if they say yes, for the provider AND for YOU, they are adults. Period. If they are still minor, it's their parents' fault, not yours.

So if you want to be sure, don't do cyber or stay offline.

Despite all that, I am still in favor of creating 2 separate virtual worlds, one with and one without adult content. But not because of "anyone think about the children!11", but because I consider that a more viable marketing model.

If just one single person in history was not being murdered, because the perpetrator was being deterred by the punishment and decided not to do it, the sentence

"the law doesn't protect anyone from anything"

is false.

What's going on here? That's simple logic.

Determent is one of the core purposes of punishment. The others being justice and retribution, enforcement of authority, rehabilition, protection of the public from the criminals and so on.

I don't get this panic behavior either.I am absolutely thrilled that LL is starting a new project. We can only win. Either it fails, then we just stay in SL, or it becomes the "next big thing" and we will be among the first using it. That's a much better scenario than this one: LL does nothing and sticks to its 10 years old technology and meanwhile, Googlebook and Yahoomazon start creating the virtual world of our dreams which will eventually lead to the demise of SL. Then all our inventories and names and virtual biographies will die and be be lost forever. So let's be happy and look forward to what will come!

Why taking this discussion to a pseudo political US vs. Europe level? I see no point in doing that. Besides ... usually Europe is considered much more liberal regarding alternative lifestyles than the US, so you're contradicting yourself. If a virtual world wants to appeal to the masses, you have to offer a Disney version. That doesn't mean that adult content has to go (and it won't, if it will, someone else will make an adult world). Oh and besides ... I don't bathe top less, I don't show genitalia on art, I speak English, I have an expensive phone, I don't celebrate Christmas and I have disposable income. *I* know and personally I have no problems with adult content or lifestyles. It's about public perception of the product that limits its usage and user base. That's why I would love to see two versions of it in the future.

A virtual world is not a game. It's a platform that can host a variety of content. Like a city. You have a park, a school, businesses and you have adult entertainment which even in the most liberal countries has their own, safe place. This is not just about children and families. No one wants to deal with pornographic material against their will. It's harassment.

Right now, if you mention SL in a work or business related situation, people either have never heard about it or, if they have, it's like you suggested youporn as a tool or field to look into. It's best not to mention it at all.

The most obvious solution would be the creation of two separate products, marketed separately, for two target groups which obviously would also overlap.

 

Any mass appeal virtual world has to have the option to be experienced totally SFW. Otherwise it will never reach beyond a small niche of users.

I'd like to see a total separation of the avatar/s (name, account, appearance, clothing, outfits) and rezzable inventory (builds, worlds, sims, whatever). Talking in 2d terms, the avatar is the email address or chat handle while the world is made of web addresses (URLs). We could pick an identity to visit different worlds and we could pay a fee to buy a domain name instead of renting land. Just a thought ...

CP was quickly populated by SL users and they soon started to shape CP in SL's image. First, real names were dropped, then FB login was dropped, and viola, the SL names popped up everywhere, you even had well known names hanging out at the entrance gates with Mentor tags over their heads. If CP had continued, they would have had griefers, adult content and agepay. But then, it went south even without it.

I don't think so. Cloud Party was a colony of SL. That is why it has failed. If the new world will be as different as it was announced, it won't be a colony as it might draw many more users from different backgrounds and open new perspectives.

It's not all about technology ... I guess most users don't even care about the technical details discussed here. I would like to ask Ebbe about:

-- Facial expressions while we talk ... will that be possible?

-- Real hand gestures? The feeling of presence is crucial in a VW.

-- other input devices besides mouse and keyboard?

-- Connection to social media? RL identities, levels of anonymity, multiple accounts?

-- Efficient separation of adult content so the world becomes relevant for RL companies to invest in? Maybe even create 2 products?

-- A different name than "Second Life"? "Second Life" implies an "alternate, secondary reality for the socially inept" which makes many people stay away from it ...

-- Advertisement strategies?

-- Game-like content to keep users engaged?
