Open your friends list, scroll down till you see your "friend," and simply uncheck the box that indicates whether to let that person see when you are online or not (I believe it is the first column box). You will also see what settings they have for you, as well.

As a Lead Hostess and part of the Management Team for a formal Jazz Club, I often find it necessary to quickly log in and send a message to some of the staff. I, like Venus Petrov, also use SLiteChat and find it perfectly fine for me. Some of the settings will allow you to save your IM conversation history, local chat history, even timestamps, and it also has Google Translation thingy too, as well as an odd feature of being able to Telephort home.
