I actually think I figured it out. Switching to OpenDNS worked for me. It just stopped working here because I was on Wi-Fi, and I'd switched over the DNS settings for the wired ethernet connection only. Look up how to switch over to using OpenDNS, and that should help.

I appear to be having the problem described in http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/Friends-list-and-groups-not-loading/td-p/786393 No one's names show up on People or in IMs. I can't send any IMs, but can respond. I can't accept teleports. The area I was offered a tele to wouldn't even load the info about it. I can't access or change my Profile (clicking the button does nothing). Restarting the viewer, restarting my system, switching to Firestorm viewer did not work. Problems occurred after I was required to update to the latest version of Second Life viewer.
