  1. Hi Victoria!  Thanks for the kind words.  :)

I think the place to start with the face sliders is actually the head.  In particular the head shape.  That set's the base, the foundation, on which the rest is built. If you look from the side, and draw a line from the forehead to the chin, one extreme has a more vertical line and the other extreme has more sloped line with the forehead further back and the mouth and lips further foreward..  The more vertical seems to most often have a square-ish head shape, and one with more of a slope has a longer, more eliptical head shape.

Then, in getting into the face itself, there are some gender markers to think about.  A male face will often have a larger jaw (longer chin) and heavier brow ridges.... "larger" and "heavier" here mean in relationship to the general population in which that facial type is found.  Conversely, a female face will have a smaller jawbone (chin) and lighter brow ridges - again, relative to the population in which they're found.

One thing I have played with as I experiment with shapes is trying to make a caucasian face (northern european... my usual), a sub-saharan-african face, and an asian (Han chinesse) face.  Its not easy at all.... perhaps I'll try to create a post on my experiments in that area sometime in the future.

  2. I had the same problem and used Eloh Eliot's Starlight skin as a starting point, then edited the areola portion of the nipples to make them about 15 or 20 percent larger.  I don't think i discuss doing this in my blog, but its straightforward enough once you have the basic layers to do it with.  If you want to have a look... The female skin portion starts at the very beginning of the blog.

  3. Hiya people!

I've just put a new post on my blog titled, 'Making your own shape'...  *grins*    I have to admit I'm a bit nervous about this post.  Shapes are very personal things, and I hope I have managed to avoid the minefields of seeming to criticize and still provide some useful information.  I also use myself as a model... go take a look and you'll see.  *winks*

  4. Hi.... I've been posting things in my blog that are along the lines I think you are interested in.... I think.  take a look.  There is a series of posts on making a female skin using starlight right near the start of the blog.  Then later on I talk about how to make a male skin using Eloh Eliot's starlight, including how to add male body hair... lots and lots of body hair!  This starts to get into some creative variations on Eloh's starlight.  And today i posted about how to make a dark skin, which gets into some creative variations in another direction.

  5. Hi everyone!  I just posted about some of my experience in making a dark skin using Eloh Eliot's Starlight open source skin as a starting point.  It's not as much of a step-by-step as my other posts have been but I try to talk about the various things I've run into and how to solve them.  In a nutshell, making a dark skin from Eloh's Starlight is not for the faint of heart, but it can be done and be done with good results.  Have a look and let me know if you have any suggestions... or give it a try yourself.  :)

  6. Here's another place to look...

i show how to make a female skin in my blog starting here:

    http://robin-makingstuff.blogspot.com/2011/02/tools-credits-and-caveats.html

and how to make a male skin, starting here:

    http://robin-makingstuff.blogspot.com/2011/08/making-male-skin-part-2-plan-c.html

Unfortunately, the male skin is more difficult and requires more creativity, but I think it's doable.  Please let me know if you run into problems or something is unclear.

  7. Hi Everyone,

I noticed some interest in these fora in making a male skin so thought I'd give it a try with Eloh Eliot's open source templates.  I made a stab at it first with Eloh's lf0y skin and failed miserably.  But since I had made a successful female skin with Eloh's Starlight skin files earlier, I decided to give it a try and see if I could modify them to be good looking male skins.  Here's where the posts start, there are five in all:

  8. ... is anyone else seeing this too?  Actually its not just viewer 2.8, its also firestorm and phoenix all are in the toilet.

My usuall Frames Per Second is about 30 at home on the high setting.  And its dropped to 3 with v2.8, 6 with firestorm and 2 with phoenix.  I haven't made any changes to my system.  I just logged in this morning and found the performance very poor.

I also tried another sim, thinking it might be my server - it was the same there too.

PS: this morning means 8/5/11 at about 930 sl time.

  9. I have had a similar problem on occasion.... but I dont think it will apply to your situation.

My computer is a laptop and every now and then it seems to 'forget' its power management settings.  When it forgets it seems to drop into a mode that runs at the lowest performance setting and the processors are limping along at 790 mhz or so.  One way to check if this is happening to you is to get CPU-Z and look at the Clocks section under the cpu tab.

I haven't used desktop systems in quite a while now so the'not applying' part is the liklihood of a desktop system having a similar power management thingie.  I just dont know if they have them or dont.

PS: GPU-Z might be useful to you too.  At this point i think you need more infomation.

  10. Hi Mandie,

Did you try the instructions in my blog?   I recently put several posts in to show how to create a tank top.

Here's where the tank top posts start: http://robin-makingstuff.blogspot.com/2011/04/making-clothes-tank-top-part-1.html

If you had in mind making a fabric for your top you might also want to look at this: http://robin-makingstuff.blogspot.com/2011/03/making-seamless-tile.html

    Here's a description of the tools I use: http://robin-makingstuff.blogspot.com/2011/02/tools-credits-and-caveats.html

The most recent post shows some new variations on the tank top.  I think they're pretty nice!

Here's a link to the blog in general: http://robin-makingstuff.blogspot.com

Let me know if there's something in it that you don't understand, or that I haven't explained well.

  11. Hi people :)

I have a nice new laptop with Inte's Sandy Bridge i5 processor chip.  Its replacing my older laptop that had an Intel core 2 processor chips and an Nvidia chip for graphics work.  I wrote up a post on my blog describing my conclusion and the problems, but I'll save you following the link - it runs SL pretty well.  That's really saying quite a lot given that tis a laptop and it does NOT have a graphics chip from either Nvidia or ATI (AMD).  There are plenty of caveats of course and if you have questions after reading the post, let me know.  I'll do my best to answer.
