  1. Title says it all. :) Central East here. Near Kansas City.
  2. There is a graphics setting in the viewer - I think it's called "hardware skinning" that needs to be turned on before you can see mesh. Eric
  3. Yes - and it makes LL look incompetent when thay can't control their own welcome areas.
  4. YOu can try this old viewer: http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/the-final-final-rainbow-for-macosx Note that it lacks a lot of modern features and my have some vunerabilities. But it runs on my G4 with OSX 10.4
  5. No, it's more like there is an LL fan club. And it's defacing the holy grail by criticizing anything LL. It's why I don't post here much. Enjoy your sl.
  6. *sighs* I was hoping people would be more open-minded. To bad I can't delete the thread.
  7. Of course they don't. Especially if they want a dismally low retention rate. Which they have.
  8. Go sign up for a new account. The download for the LL viewer starts automatically. You are are not given any choice, and if you are a noob, you know nothing about TPV's.
  9. I can't imagine any new users are having a good first experience on LL's viewer with average hardware. Seriously. I know the hardware nazis with $500 graphics card will disagree, but it's obvious that somehow new people need a better introduction to Second Life. They need to have alternate viewers more readily available, so they can see the potential of sl immediately, not have to struggle with a poor performing, unstable viewer. Flame away.
  10. Yes, but I always try to see if they are improving anything. Everytime I've tried their viewer in the last year I have been disappointed. There have been no exceptions, I'm sorry to say.
  11. If the majority of people are getting poorer performance, isn't that going in the wrong direction? Personally, I'd rather have a bit less bling and a better overall experience. That's certainly not happening. Regardless - anti-aliasing is broken in 3.2.1 on Linux.
  12. My graphics card is fine for second life. Anti-aliasing works great on all other viewers, and I get good frame rates. Thank you for your "analysis". Have a good day.
  13. Not to mention horrible, horrible, frame rates. But hey, it has a new interface! *facepalm* My system specs: CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz (2800 MHz) Memory: 3022 MB OS Version: Linux 2.6.35-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Sun Sep 19 20:34:50 UTC 2010 i686 Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GT 430/PCI/SSE2 OpenGL Version: 4.1.0 NVIDIA 260.19.06 LL doesn't seem to get it. This is what new users of second life see. Crap. *shrugs*
  14. It sounds like you don't have graphics drivers installed. That is, if that GPU is supported. I'm more familiar with Linux mint, but see if you have a "additional drivers" option on the admisitration menu. If a driver for your grahics chip does not show up there, it simply may not be supported. You may also want to try intel's site, see if you can find linux drivers. Good luck.
  15. Yes, thanks - I didn't realize it was only for my "feed" But using the word "following" was not the best choice.
  16. There is nothing in my profile about following. i can fix it so nobody can view my profile, sure. But why would I want to do that? This is stupid. Why is this invasion of privacy enabled by default?
  17. Quit treating my privacy so casually! I never gave permission for anyone to follow me! I consider it a serious intrusion to my privacy! Cease and desist!
  18. I want Linden Lab to stop treating my privacy so casually. I see nothing in my profile about "following". Linden Labs, I don't want anyone "following me". Ever! I want the option to stop it permenantly!
  19. I get this messgae that someone is following me. How do I stop it? Thanks
  20. There are many fine TPVs that run well on the Mac. Find one close to your needs, and LL will fix the problem eventually. No reason to let this ruin your enjoyment of Second Life.
  21. Thank you! They are cheap enough that I can pull the trigger on one then. Eric
  22. I have an Nnidia 8500gt now - it is a workwhile upgrade? Thanks
  23. There are a lot of problems with the older viewers. They don't handle display names, and are subject to many crash-exploits. My idea was to patch it up to a newer, more stable version. If I used snowglobe 1.4 for example, I would have access to a lot of patches provided by the community. Phoenix, Imprudence, etc.
