single block prim. kinda like an archway for a door type thing in a wall.

Trying to work something out... 1. whether it's possible or not to make a transparent area on the object's texture phantom, while leaving the rest of the colored space solid, and 2. if it is possible, how to accomplish it? Do i need a script or.. something else? and if it's not possible, are there alternatives that don't require masses of prims? Thanks for any help given, much appreciated :)
