You could donate it to a strictly in-world group, rather than one that collects money to give to RL causes...for example, Caledon Oxbridge University, or New Resident Island, or NCI.

But I'll second the several suggestions that you not delete all your accounts. SO many people have done that and regretted it later.

We'll miss you, and welcome you back if/when you choose to rejoin the party.

I'm very sure about what I'm doing Lindal.
Nothing is holding me inside SL. I'm not prepared to make just one more extra cent for The almighty Lab nor in tier, nor in commission for marketplace sales.

I suggest they lock this thread very soon now.
Before you know it we are discussing one of the subjects that we are not allowed to talk about. We can't have that can we?

That said, thanks for the suggestions and have a good one you all.
Elsa is on her way to the bin now too.

  2. I'm leaving Second Life. I have already deleted all the other avatars I had, including my main Sid Nagy. His marketplace shop is emptied.
Elsa was always the banker of the bunch, so she is stuck with what is left of the L$. I don't want to go through the Tilia hassle needed to be able to cash out.
I want to delete Elsa too asap, but before that I want to donate the remaining 'game tokens' to charity or a good in world project.

    Any recommendations?

Akshually, I like the idea that the BB's could IM us AFTER we opted out, confirming that they have indeed completed adding us to their "opt-out list".

Maybe that's just IMHO, of course.

    I'm just silly lion, whutdoIknow?

There should not be an opt out, but a complete removal of all personal data and then they should start fresh again on their website with an opt in solution.
There would not be much  people profiles on display in the future, I guess.
Displaying those profiles is IMHO an useless exercise: The rest of world does not care and SL residents only can get peeved about it.
They proved the world that they can and that should be enough.

    But whutdoiknow2?

Do note that nowhere have I stated as such. I have stated the reality. Do with that what you will but do not try to pretend I have said anything that I have not expressly stated.

It was never my intention to let you say things you did not say.
If you somehow got that impression, that was not the purpose of my post. I apologize if my post gave you that impression.

That said, in general, without implying that you implied this without saying so:

Because massive data gathering happens on the Internet and other digital platforms, that doesn't mean one should put their head in the sand and hope for the best.
IMHO there is a lot to gain by sorting this matter out properly and not with the usual half arsed solutions we are all to familiar with.

What happens in Second Life stays wherever whomever was present and taking screenshots, logs and other such things decides to place it (be it just on their own computer, a blog or elsewhere).

Now if you honestly believe otherwise... boy do I have a nice deal for you on an absolutely fabulous pre-owned bridge!

Because it does happen, doesn't mean one should put their head in the sand and hope for the best.

  6. The simple solution IMHO is that the Bees continue their bot hobby, but simply leave out all the names of SL residents in what they publish on their website.
So no profiles from residents on their website, no individual earnings or landholdings or whatever is possible to harvest and connect to Second Life residents.

And if there is something to opt, it always should be opt in.
    - I sell you a house, unless you opt out.
    - You buy our expensive insurances unless you opt out
That is not how it should work, is it?
