  1. I am trying to upload a large building. For some reason some of the geometry just doesn't seem to be included even though I've exported the whole thing as one large peice from my 3D program.

I've included some pictures to demonstrate.

The walls and roof, the largest parts of the geometry, do not show up in world or in the mesh upload preview window...which has it's own amasingly infuriating problem.

Yes that patch of white pixels is my 18x18 meter building. That is as close as I can get to it. That said, somehow I could tell the walls and roof are not there either.

I have checked my normals several times, and all the normals are facing the proper direction.

I would really appreciate any help or advice that could be provided on this issue or even the minor mesh preview issue. I use Cinema 4D R13 if that makes any difference, but I really think it's an issue with SL. In the in game pictures, I am using Firestorm 4.6.5.4.

This missing geometry has also happened to a signifigantly smaller mesh in which a simple 3 faced bar just would not show up and it was actually not even there at all, despite being there in C4d. Not transperent, just plain not there.

Is there just something monumentally stupid I'm doing/not doing or something?

I would also extremely highly appreciate any advice on making mesh buildings. Thank you!

  2. I heard long ago that there was a place someone could go to practice terraforming, somewhat like a sandbox?

If that's not still around, I was wondering if someone might allow me to screw around with terraforming and such on their land for a short time?

I'm planning to purchase my own full sim in the (far)future, and I've been getting a bit excited lately with planning it. I just want to see if I can do gentle rolling hills and ditches well enough, as well as a few other techniques I've worked out in my mind to figurately marry mesh objects(ex: roads) made with curves by matching the terrain with it.

So, yeah, reply here or send Mizana Imari a note in Second Life! I really want a place to practice if only for a few hours :matte-motes-bashful-cute-2:

  3. Hi there. I've been wondering about these two things for a while. I have read many things about land impact, but don't understand it fully.

For Land Impact, say we have a 400 polygon build with a land impact of 10. (This is completely made up for example reasons).

This 400 build is maybe a simple shed like this:

    Farm Shed

So this shed has a land impact of 10.

So, we make a closed shed without an inside just like this that is still 400 polygons, and it has a land impact of 2.

[Hehe, some of ya'll are probably going '@_@ I wanna make LI 2 stuff...' Remember these figures are entirely made up.]

The shed is 400 poly's either way, but one is less LI than the other. Why? I know it has something to do with the mesh being more complex, but it's still the same polycount, so that's what is confusing.

What is the secret to low Land Impact...?

Onto my second subject; Triangulation. When uploading to sl, I find SL automatically triangulates quads, which is a problem since I model in quads. Usually I find SL has broken up each quad into 4 triangles or some such, quadrupling my polycount. As you may guess, this isn't good.

Is it better to triangulate your build yourself in your 3D modeling program? Or am I missing something and it doesn't really make any difference?

    That's about it, I guess.

[If it helps at all for any of you to know, I use Cinema 4D for my modeling.]

Thank you greatly in advance for your answers!

  4. Hi, I was wondering if anyone has suggestions to make metal parts in my builds better than just setting them as grey or some other color and turning on shineyness? I've tried metal textures but it doesn't seem quite right either...But perhaps that's because I'm using the wrong textures.

Can anyone suggest a good metal texture or method to get more realistic interesting metal?

  5. I'm looking for someone experienced in Sculpting and/or Mesh creation to make me a prosthetic leg for a horse.

I've made one myself, but I'm starting to realise it looks as if the brackets would bend and break if put under extreme stress, which often happens when you're a horse :matte-motes-big-grin-squint:

    Leg picture.png

I would like something slightly more modern, but not futuristic, and with the appearence of realistic functionality(I tried to achive that in the build above with a few springs, but every time I look at it, it looks flimsier and flimsier :matte-motes-not-entertained: )

Payment would range of 200L-800L depending on how good the design is. Don't worry, I'm  fair judge and believe good work deserves good pay :matte-motes-bashful-cute-2:

Please send a Notecard to Mizana Imari expressing your interest in this project. I would also like to see something like a drawing with a general idea of your planned design.

If you need more details, if I contact you back for the job, we can discuss them :matte-motes-grin:

Thank you and have a good day!

  6. Hope

Hey there! I'm Mizana Imari~ I'm an aspiring builder and furry of Secondlife and need a bit of help with a small project~!

I need a person good with clothing and textures! I'm a sculpter and have tried numourous times to make thinks like pants and such, but always get stuck on the textures and making actual pants layer textures!

    So yeah~ That's what I'm looking for :3

Maybe if we work well together, we could make more things x3

Of course I will pay if you require for your services :3 But since I'm poor-ish, you're going to have to take what I can afford. For the initial job, I'll give you 100-200L based on the quality :3  And, if creations we make together go on sale, the profit would of course be split 50/50 or something~

Current project is a pair of Khaki Shorts, because I see a lack of good ones ._. I have the pantlegs done and fitted, and am going to make sculpts for prim cargo pockets in traditional Khaki style~

Just contant me In-Game~ Don't reply here, I won't see it.
